  • Another blue Porsche! This one belongs to my mate, James, though! This is a Porsche 911 991.1 C2S with the fast PDK automatic gearbox!
    So, let’s do a road test review of this lovely car and talk to the owner about what he thinks about it after 13,000 miles and see if, after ten full years since it hit the road if it’s a car that still cuts it in modern traffic! Should you buy one of these and save yourself some money or go straight for a new Porsche 911 992? What does this car have in common with a GT3 that you won’t get with a 992? I will tell you!
    A full car review video and owner interview for your viewing pleasure! Perhaps you are looking at a 991.1 and if that’s the case then THIS IS THE VIDEO FOR YOU!
    For fun, I also let James drive my 928 and at the end, you’ll see what a driver of a fairly modern 911 thinks about a 38 year old car in the process of restoration! Culture shock!
    All written, researched and edited by me. You can download all my Porsche model guides at www.jayreadyoutube.com so go and take a look there, OK?
    Why not follow me on Instagram too? I am a CAR guy first and I get around so take a look at the reels and pictures that I take because you might like them! Also you get news on my own Porsche, my MG and other life events there before RUclips! Look for jayreadyoutube on Insta now!

    As an owner of a 991.2, I agree the 991.1 has its benefits of being naturally aspirated. The infotainment system on the other hand would bother me. Still think the 991.1 is a great buy and great car.

In the past, I owned 65-XKE, 81-280ZX, 77-930, 86-944, 88-911 Carrera, 09-328i, 08-M3, 88-e30 convertible but the 991 S is the best transportation that I ever owned. Fun, fast, reliable and good looking. Thumbs up everywhere! Put a smile in my face and always gives me a sense of a special occasion every time I drive it. It is still relatively affordable. Cheers!

    is it too risky to buy a used 996 with a rebuilt engine, or do you always try to find one that is stock? I am looking at a great deal on a very clean 996 with a newer 2005 rebuilt engine from an IMS failure. car has 132K miles on it, engine has more like 50K on it. I was hoping to get a manual, but the price is pretty good, and I am tired of just watching your videos, I want to own one of my own! thanks again, love all your content.

    • @JAYREAD
      @JAYREAD  Год назад

      Why don’t you ask about the engine? Where did it come from? Who installed it? Porsche dealers installed a lot of them back then. Dive on in and enjoy and thanks for the nice feedback!

      @davecory5047 Год назад

      @@JAYREAD thank you so much for your quick reply, its a 2002 996 and around 85K miles the engine was replaced by Beverly Hills Porsche in 2005 with a brand new 3.6 liter engine that is updated by factory and does not requier IMS bearing update (dealer invoice available), the transmission and the transfer case was completely rebuild by Aamco Transmissions 2 years ago with less than 1000 miles since rebuilt. its in great shape, just didn't know if its a thing with porsche owners to not get an engine that has been rebuilt. I was hoping for a manual, but I figured I can always upgrade

    It's pretty slow these days. I mean, a m240i xdrive and a TT-RS are both faster on 0-60 and 0-150 mph

    • @JAYREAD
      @JAYREAD  Месяц назад +1

      I don’t think it’s fair to say it is slow. Moreover, speed has been democratized over the years and becomes less and less relevant. Porsches are still low weight, well handling, well manufactured sports cars that are a pleasure to own. Not sure the cars you list are as special. You pick what is important to you. This is just my opinion.

    Love my 2013 991.1s BUT;(always a but!) truth is ,it has lacks low end torque and isn't really that quick in real life off a stop light! Howso? because you're going to look stupid playing my car can beat up your car trying to anticipate a green light with launch control. So engaging launch control ,for a 4 second 0-60 , takes 4 or 5 seconds for the process, and one never knows when the light turns green. I would never put that abuse to my car. Real life: you'd miss it more often than not. Without Launch control, just under 5 is about real life, which these days isn't special. Still handles and goes around corners and decent pick up when it gets spinning .

    Porsche 991.1 reliability modern with a classic naturally aspirated sound coming from the back of the motor is priceless yes you can get a newer one but why would you spend 150,000 and it sounds like a sewing machine when the Porsche 991 that one sounds better than a Ferrari F3 55 that is a strong statement I just gave I wasLooking to buy a Ferrari F3 55 Berlinetta strictly because of the way the sound of the car and the sex appeal but for half the price and less of a mechanical room headache I will have more money in my pocket more reliability and a timeless sexy machine it’s a no-brainer porch there is no substitute if you’re reading this make sure you get a Porsche 991 that one you won’t be sad it will put a grin on your face every time you start it up I promise

      I’m be surprised if they go with that NA engine too. To keep the pace it would need 480hp which is close to the GT3 engine. Can they confidently turn that 4.0 Cayman engine up enough for that?
      992.1 sales have been great, they can just turn up the power on that existing 3.0 engine to get to 480 and above for the 992.2 Carrera S, so why not just do that and bank the profit?
      I’m making the assumption Porsche will launch the next Carrera S at the old GTS HP range and keep that trend going.
      Maybe a Carrera T with the 4.0 Cayman engine as a trim level eventually though?
