  • In this video, a St John Ambulance trainer explains the common causes of an angina attack, the signs to look for, and how to help someone suffering from an angina attack. Angina is a type of chest pain that someone gets when the arteries carrying blood to their heart muscle become narrowed. This can restrict the blood supply and cause pain.

My mother has had angina for years...every once in a while she will have massive tightness in her chest and she says her heartbeat is so strong she can almost hear it, like its beating out of her chest. When this happens she immediately takes 1 aspirin and sits down upright. If it still persists she walks slowly around the house and takes another aspirin and sits down again...she remains calm, and after a while, the pain usually goes away. She has a friend who is very old and has had angina for 30 years and he does the same thing. This is not medical advice since everyone is different, but I just thought I would share her experience. I always tell her to call me when this happens and I will usually go by her and talk with her in a relaxed voice. She says being relaxed is key.

I have stable angina also, and when I have an attack, usuallly when walking up a hill, I just stop and withina minute or 2 it is gone, I have yet to take any nitroglycerin, it goes away on it's own.. I had a heart attack last March and had a stent put in my right coronary artery as it was 100 percent blocked, I do have a 70 percent blocked circumflex and I am asssuming this is where my angina is coming from.. SO yes, the aspirin and slow walking and remaining calm usually takes care of it.. I take plavix and aspirin every day anyways, so to chew another couple is no big deal.. and your mom is right, being relaxed is definitely key..

I am sorry to hear about your pain. But according to our guidelines, if you have chest pain on exertion (Stable angina), the treatment is nitroglycerin, aspirin and beta blockers. Your doctor will help you with these medications. Leading a healthy lifestyle helps. That is all.

Probably panic attacks or anxiety attacks. Same symptoms like heart attack or angina...
The more you worry the note it will last. I used to have severe chest pain that hurt more when I'm scared thinking it's heart attack. 3 4 ECG tests done. Heart is normal. But I was hospitalized for depression and severe anxiety attacks. After taking anti depressants and anxiety meds I don't gave chest pains anymore. Also I stopped thinking chest pains are heart attacks..
If ECG is normal then it's could be panic or anxiety attacks. Go to a psychiatrist who will prescribed you anxiety meds

I love that assertion: -"feelings of anxiety" is a symptom of angina. You dont say! It reminds me of someone writing that a "symptom of acute IBS is depression"-too right it is if you are afraid of eating because of what might happen. That can be depressing. If you think you have angina you are likely to have feelings of anxiety! Not so much a symtom of angina as a result of angina I'd have thought. Any fears of getting something ghastly like angina is likely to create "feelings of anxiety". More seriously I feel there is a classic medical disconnect here, underestimating the psychological factor in worsening health both in diagnosis and treatment. Procedures, treatment diagnosis all have their necessary function of course but it should not be forgotten that anxiety and stress are major factors in weakening health and lowering resistance to disease.

The attacks had ceased years ago and are now back with a vengeance and cardiologists here don't have any resolve. Its dominating my life it's debilitating. I get it while working out, left arm pain, left chest tightness, lasts 20-30 minutes, also after heavy meals sometimes. I have anxiety disorder but its been happening over the last 2 months now only. I got a EKG and it came normal. I have a echocardiogram booked and I want to do a stress echocardiogram as well. Also CT scans can be helpful. Make sure to get blood work on red blood cell count and cholesterol, ask for blood work for heart. Im only 20 and within 8 days of steroids started getting these symptoms accompanied with high blood pressure . Since blood pressure has returned to normal after i quit i still have the pain after working out. Hoping its anxiety but its basically confimed to be heart related for me at this point. Also double vaxxed

So I only felt like that for a week I think, it is like a strong chest pressure feeling. I told the doctor about it and she just said that it was maybe because i wasn’t eating healthy. But I still think it’s still something you should tell someone :).

Same for me, I was sleeping at night then suddenly I had chest pains and pressure on my chest,It was scaring me out. At school when I was breathing really deep because my breathing is slow, everytime I inhale my chest hurts, I don't really communicate to everyone at school but 2 person helped me in the bathroom and walk me through the clinic. People there are so shtty a teacher just kicked me out of the clinic it caught me off guard then she asked me why were here, I told her I was having chest pains and I thought she was gonna help me, there were other people too inside the clinic and look like they were having their "breaks" just chilling inside with the aircon on. Then she told me it's because of the damn sweater ( this wasn't exactly how she said but.) And yea I knew that she doesn't care about students at all then I walked away during the time she was saying that and then she frikin shouted at me I was like okay then I walked back then I said I'm having chest pains again hen I don't remember what happened next but yea I was zoning out then she shut the door inside the clinic. 2 ppl said are you okay? Then I said yes. They weren't my classmates. After that we said goodbye to each other for class but I skipped a class for 1 hour cuz I was having a mental breakdown, its my first time on this school now I notice how good my old school was. Are you here now in this sentence?Well okay good. That's all I have to say I guess I said too much.:] you don't have to read this all-
