@montelljordan3175 talked about Def Jam and his first encounter with Russell Simmons, which he called “bizarre.” Jordan flew out to New York City and was taken out to a cafe where he got sat at one table while Simmons was at another table. The singer noted people like Warren G, Reginald Hudlin, Chris Rock, and others. From there, Simmons invited Jordan to his penthouse, where Simmons didn’t say anything to him but hopped on a treadmill instead.
Jordan then said Run of Run DMC came up and said hello to him, which prompted Russell to speak and say, “That’s my rap singer.” Run began to describe how Russell Simmons talked about Montell positively despite him not saying anything to him. LL Cool J popped into Russell’s place after Run and started talking to him.
From there, he described going to the movies with Russell and a friend later that night, which led to them going to a strip club. Before going into the club, Jordan said he was asked to sing in the back of a car for Simmon’s friend, who turned out to be the late Andre Harrell. Simmons then told him, “go back to LA and get a lawyer.”

VERY True! I was a freshman in college when his smash hit dropped and everybody and their granny were singing it.
To this day , I’m talking about the parties my wife and I threw while living in Miami, and leaving there bout 5 months ago, and attending functions with family , it’s still a sing a long fest whenever Montell Jordans’ songs are played. Yeah man!

Respect for his 74 dollar story! Anxiety is part of the road to success. More people will feel encouraged to not feel embarrassed about real life. My college days back in the late 1980s I tear up frequently when I remember how I had to make 10 dollars stretch for 2 weeks? Trust God He always turns anxiety into quiet confidence if you would only humble yourself like this brother MJ!

I know Montell believes Andre was the one that signed off on that deal, but he wasn't the only one. It was actually all of them. From Russell's driver who sat next to him at lunch, to Rev Run and to even LL they were all interviewing him to see what type of man he was, and if they didn't like him, I'm sure Russell would've simply thanked him for his time and sent him home. But with each approval he got closer and closer to getting a deal. That's why it's so important that wherever we go we must always be on our Ps and Q's because you never know who's watching and listening to you. Because it's the ones that you at least expect that could decide our fate.

He married and stayed with his GF who was his ride-and-die from day one.
We out here.....health, cooking at home, regular exercise, positive living....all of us aren't on a platform like the legendary Montell, (I'm 60, and know his story, and watched him from day 1....we are extremely proud of him, and his story isn't just roses....trust that) but trust and believe, we here....lol I'm watching the youngsters and some of them look terrible....eating poison, smokin weed from morning til night, drinkin too much, and gaining much weight.....not even in their mid 30s yet......choices.....that's all it boils down to....choices....no discipline = bad choices....bad choices = many L's....or worse

Stay close to how the Bible tell us to live(within reason)use Vaseline and baby lotion on ur face,and always clean ur face or shaved area including public areas with alcohol..it kills the stuff that tend to cause bumps...and clean ur face with a baby wash or soap.
Vaseline and lotion the face as soon as u get out shower..
And take time to bath properly,go over every Parr if ur body twice..
Ppl don't take care of themselves and wonder why they look like a rusy bumper..🤷♂️bath and keep ur skin moisturized especially face,hands,butt ankles and feet.
And keep pillow cases and sheets washed weekly,oil gets in pillow case and makes face breakout
So nobody going to talk about how awesome it was that Russell told him to go get a lawyer versus drawing of paperwork and having him sign in knowing that he didn't know what he was signing. With all the industry horror stories that is very commendable and awesome of him to do it that way. Respect 🙏🏾

Russell put on a "dog and pony show" and Andre Harrell was in on it because both of them were roommates and friends in college at NYU, Russell was sizing Montell up by having different established artist/stars "just show up" and speak to him on the couch.
Yeah he got “sized up” alright
Montell is one of the nicest people in the industry, so grounded . I think this has a lot to do with why he still looks like he is in his 20’s . His voice is phenomenal and seems to get even better and richer with age.

He was in the lobby with his dancers just hanging out.
We were trying to get the attention of one of his dancers and he let her know we were trying to get her attention.

He was auditioning and didn’t even know it. They wanted to see him in different environments and see how he’d carry himself. Even though he felt they weren’t paying attention, they were. Checking his presence , seeing if people were looking at him etc. Truth be told I think they looked at him more toward image than a talent.

I liked montell in the 90s, but i never really listened to a whole lot of his stuff. These interview clips gonna make me have to check out the brother’s whole catalogue.
