  • Sky News Business Reporter Ed Boyd explains BHP's takeover bid for Anglo American.
Mining giant BHP has launched a non-binding takeover bid for the $56 billion British resources giant Anglo American.
Anglo American is one of the world’s biggest producers of copper, diamonds and platinum.
“Under the terms of this deal, Anglo American says that it’s not going to include its platinum business or its African iron ore mining business.” Mr Boyd said.
“In other words, BHP is looking to buy everything else.
“That’s its big diamond mining business that it has in South Africa, its copper business, its nickel business and its iron ore business in Brazil”.
