My friends and I once invented this game (about 10 years ago) at 5am, while pulling an all nighter gaming event. The only difference, was that we called it "Shinoda" and you had to yell out "Shinoda" every time you rolled your number. We were so tired, that it was ACTUALLY FUN for about 10min. It's now an ongoing joke in our group! *YAAAA By The Way Chaz, this video wins the Internet *Atleast for the day*
I confess that we own this and play it from time to time. we have the 77 card expansion too. so we'll pick random cards and play the variant. my 11 year old with down syndrome loves it, and her younger sister likes to beat all of us. it's much better than playing a whole game of Life, which is what they want to play. sometimes I can get them to play incan gold, and less frequently King of Tokyo.
+gml4 I may tease Tenzi pretty hard, but it's important to note that this video is just one lunatic's opinion. :) Any game that someone, their friends, and/or their family enjoy playing is a winner in that respect. And, in situations like the one you described, finding a game that can be enjoyed by everyone just makes it that much more special of an experience. Thumbs up!
Despite all the things you said, I really enjoy playing Tenzi myself. It really picks up the energy during a game night, and everyone I play with always has a great time. It really is simple enough that anyone can learn and play. Plus "77 Ways to Play Tenzi" is a great expansion and does promote creativity.
+joshsmithartist You know what, the truth of the matter is: if you enjoy playing a particular game, then that's all that matters. I may tease Tenzi unmercifully, but whether someone is playing it or the top-rated game on BoardGameGeek.com, the only thing that's important is the player's level of enjoyment. Game on!
8 years in and this is still an incredible video. I had just picked up Tenzi for $1.50 thrifted. I mostly bought it for the dice because I am a proud dice goblin and couldn’t pass up on the deal. The game didn’t come with the rules and I was convinced there was more to it. This video confirms that there isn’t. Well, at least I have the dice I suppose. Can’t believe this retailed for anything more than what I paid for it. Going to a family gathering for Easter. I’ll bring it and see what they all think. They love games (good games), so I’m sure it’ll be an early April Fool’s joke for them.
Chaz is fantastic, a breath of fresh air. Keep up the great, great work. A great signing for The Dice Tower. I'll keep on funding if you keep finding great talent that are funny, engaging, and hey, not even by boardgaming standards, by entertainment standards as well.
+Julien Grenier When I first read this comment I thought it was a funny joke, Then I went to Amazon to check out Tenzi and saw that it (77 ways to Tenzi) really does exist. Which makes it even funnier.
+Julien Grenier My sister in law has this game with the expansion card deck, the deck makes the game much better as far as random rolling dice games go. It gives something to aim for at least, similar to Yahtzee. Honestly it should just come with the deck of cards. Edit: That being said it is still a terrible "game".
Ive had lots of fun with Tenzi 5/5 stars No really its great for waking you up in the morning... gently set down your cup of coffee, throw dice in front of everyone and just start rolling. Your brain wakes up and just starts going at it over and over, and in about 40-90 seconds its over.... and then you realize the ridiculousness of what just happened. Smile, laugh... and if you are playing for stakes... like if you win you go first in the first actual game you have to play, then you don't feel cheated for wasting your time. I think this is more just selling on the fact people like rolling dice... not that people want to play a game... and yeah it would be more economical to ask your local DM to borrow their dice instead of buying this at full price... thrift price? 40 d6? id pay $2.50 for my fireballs.
+Chrysie Beryl If someone finds a way to enjoy Tenzi (or any game), then that's all that matters. :) I like the morning routine you described. Not only because it's a neat way to adapt gaming activity into everyday life, but also because, you're right... who doesn't like rolling dice? (Glances over at pile of dice kept next to computer mouse on desk.)
ArmadilloAl A good question, and one that's the answered in my upcoming video: "The Search For The Missing Instruction Paper That Ended Up Being Right Where You Left It - Way To Go".
The thing that makes it fun is you are supposed to stack the dice into a tower once you have all 10. The race makes stacking a speed and stability balance game
I don't know if you like Roll For It, Tenzi put out a deck of square cards that let you match your rolls to the pattern on the card. I don,t know whether it improves game play
Tremendous! Thrift Sift has become Can't Miss viewing for me. I hope that more terrible activities, er "games", like Tenzi, continue to show up in the thrift store aisle.
Wow, I'd seen this at a mini game-shop (located in another shop) and had wondered about it, but I didn't realise it was that horrendous. This seems a bit odd given that the shop owner (never spoken to him/her, they just have regular staff that come up to the game section if you want to buy anything) is obviously a gamer - in the past he's put little cards referencing BGG and the info thereon on to the games, plus he also must have gone to Essen as there were a few Essen releases in stock shortly after - so it surprises me a little that they'd stock this junk. On the positive side, your daughter grounding herself _really_ made me laugh - excellent stuff!
I think sitting in a dental office waiting room would elicit a much more sophisticated board game fabrication, one that involves brushing, or drilling, or flossing, or screaming, or something....
Do not knock it till you try the Memoir 'Tenzi expansion, you can take out a whole section in one roll. Of course you will need 6 sets for D-Day landing. I personally recommend the Equipment Pack...you get 11 dice!
I needed cheap multi-colored dice to pair with some gamebooks I'm gifting. Luckily my thrift shop had a brand new copy of Tenzi for the princely sum of $1. The rules, that were also handily printed on the outside label, sounded super lame, but it had some kind of fancy gaming award sticker on the package, so I went online for a second opinion. Glad I did, because this review was a million times more fun than the 30 seconds of misery it would have taken me to test the game myself. My review: 10/10, would scavenge its dice again.
Wow I had just picked that up at a thrift store for the dice it was .25. I found the dice had a "motor Oilish" smell to them. I was only missing the Yellow dice but for .25 it was a good deal. Hmm update not missing Yellow but my Colors were: White with pink pips Green with red pips Pink with black pips Blue with yellow pips.
I'll admit that I would totally buy this at a thrift store for a buck. I can't get 40 different colored d6 anywhere for that price. :) As for the "game", it's the sort of thing I can see a lot of people doing as a social activity. There are people who just don't want to think really hard during their game time and this fits that bill. Sadly, I think I might prefer to play Tenzi over some things that have more game to them. It would be over quickly. :)
A friend of mine owns a toy store and one year he told me that this "game" was one of his best sellers. As an aspiring game designer I naturally asked how the game was played. When he told me I became visibly upset. Not just because it isn't a game, not just because it was grossly overpriced, but BECAUSE IT ISN'T A GAME! There is also a book that you can buy as an expansion for around 10 dollars that gives you 77 new ways to play Tenzi. Our personal favorite was Storkzi. In this variant you simply play Tenzi, per the classic rules, with the added twist of you have to stand on one foot. Reading that made me want to unleash my inner Sam Healy and throat punch someone (i.e. - the creators of this product). Chaz mentioned that someone things this product promotes creativity, however, if you had to buy that book then it obviously didn't do that job. The one good thing I can say about this product is that some of the sets have dice with odd color schemes. Is this a valid excuse to spend 15 dollars on it? No. No no no no no no no no. I can't say enough bad things about this product.
It sounds like you're more butthurt about me (and many others) not thinking it's a game. I COULD design a "simple as hell game" but I am aiming for something with more substance.
you forget that its not just about the mind in this game, speed and dexterity matter too. We had a great time with 8 people. Mindlesss silly fun. Like PIT.
5:30 Just that rhyme alone made the video worth watching. I don't see how anyone would willingly play this. I guess some really love dice; or they are just simple-minded.
It's bizarre. I watched a documentary recently (in french) which explored the Amazon reviews and how they receive free stuff "just" to give 5 star rating for all their products...This looks like it's one of them
Wow.... You didn't even LOOK at ft have fun in it! Is your job to make every dice game terrible? Me and others played this game, and we got addicted almost IMMEDIATELY! Do another dice game that's actually terrible! Gosh! People these days!
+Pairofdice paradise is missing the whole point... no other game lets you shout "TENZI!!!!" when you win. I suppose you could house rule other games and add that to the victory conditions, but really.... it just wouldn't be the same.
I have played this "game", along with card deck, and attempted to leave reviews on Amazon with my true thoughts and criticisms. Nothing extremely negative and vulgar, just honest opinion and recommendations for other games that would be better suited. Amazon continuously denied posting it, and so I wonder if the reviews are all positive because people love this "game" or that reviews that do not sing praise get denied... Maybe I need to attempt another revision.
Chaz is missing the point totally on this one - its a speed game - its much like criticising the 100m dash simply because there is no decision making nice supply of D6s
dante ferno Pettiness? I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at. If you're implying Chaz is a gaming snob I don't agree with you on that. And as you already said, it is a different opinion anyway. This "game" makes Candyland look strategic. That's more of a game than this is.
Honestly.... I feel like too many gamers forget to just have fun now and then. Fast frantic games like this DO have their place. It's not about the choices, it's about the random chaos. Now, yes, if you WANT a game with choices and interactions, clearly, don't get this. But that doesn't mean that people enjoying this are somehow wrong, they're just after something else (Though to be sure, some of these people are a bit nutty XD)
I thought this review was hilarious. But I thought I might be biased. So I check with my 10 year old son and my 72 year old father. They both laughed... Hard.
+Stephen T. Gordon Thank you, Stephen. Hearing that such a wide age range was able to enjoy this video is actually one of the greatest compliments that I could receive. I appreciate it. Cheers!
I just bought this game yesterday and everyone in my family from ages 6-76 loved it. There is more than one version of tenzi. there are 8 other ways to play in the instructions and you can also make up your own games. Sorry but I strongly disagree with this review.
Explain how King of Tokyo is better than this game. You pick a face on the die and hope you roll it on the others. You can't choose to attack, you can't choose not to attack, you can't choose to heal. This is KoT without cardboard stands and extra smaller dice.
I'm sure everyone will be glad to know, you can get Tenzi for free on iOS! (Because they couldn't get anyone to BUY such a ridiculous "game", I guess?) :)
This was not a very good review. While I enjoy this guy's other reviews, he really missed the boat on this one. He seems outraged that people have the audacity to like this game. He fails to realize that maybe the average person doesn't want to play a huge, long game with decision making and instead engage in some mindless fun every once in a while. He seems extremely biased against simple games like this, for the simple reason that there isn't any descion making? He also fails to realize that people don't need to have the same option as him. He really had no right to tear into the 5 star reviews, as they were people's opinions. He's literally getting mad at these people for liking a game he doesn't like. If you also me, that's very unprofessional. Another thing is that games he deems "worthy" to play instead of Tenzi aren't very accessible to the average person. You can find games like Tenzi at gas stations, Barnes and Noble, and even stores like Fred Meyer. Meanwhile, the games that Chaz finds "worthy" can only be purchased online or in game stores. How can you expect the average person to get any exposure to "worthy" games if they're not going to see them anywhere? There's a reason that Tenzi still exists: people enjoy playing it, and Chaz seems outraged about this fact. I probably won't be watching this guy's reviews anymore.
far too many elitist "gamers" on this comments accept it IS a game accept its a simple as can be - nothing wrong in that accept that some people actually WOULD like this game, just because you dont doesnt mean other people think the same as for the BS about Amazon reviews being faked ....dish out the proof or you appear like a tin foil hat wearer poor video by Chaz but it does highlight the latent snobbery of modern gamers
Chaz, clearly you don't know anything about games. Tenzi is far better than Blood Rage, Pandemic, Terra Mysticaor Agricola could ever be. 439 reviews!! Incredible, it could only go up from there. Watch out Pandemic and Twilight Struggle, here comes Tenzi.
I'm not sure this technically qualifies as a game. If it were an app, it would be a zero player "game". You couldn't turn it into a drinking game, as there wouldn't be enough time to pour a drink. I hope you have a policy of not reintroducing these "games" back into the thrift ecosystem. It looks fine if you cast a lot of fireballs in D&D, but otherwise it may be best to prevent the inevitable disappointment of someone else finding this gem. Any game that can be replaced with three lines of Basic code isn't a game.
Best stand alone review on the Dice Tower I have ever seen.
My friends and I once invented this game (about 10 years ago) at 5am, while pulling an all nighter gaming event. OK...so this just became my favorite video series on RUclips :)
I challenge you to do a component proponent for Tenzi to make it more interesting.

+PairOfDice Paradise spot on.
I must admit Chaz, I'm not usually huge on your videos, but this was hysterical! Hope to see more like this from you!
It's great you're now on board! :) Excellent video!
Thanks, you honestly just saved me $20... I was thinking of maybe buying two as I have 5 kids... Cheers.

love your stuff chaz, hysterical
You might consider getting the expansion "77 ways to Tenzi".

Ive had lots of fun with Tenzi

This is one of the best reviews I have ever seen!
Great video chaz , thanks for Your contributions !
LOL this was hillarious! Keep it up Chaz!!
Best stuff on the entire Dice Tower Network.
Two thumbs up for Beakman's World!!
Lol, really enjoying Your contributies Chaz, Thank you and i hope more is coming ;)
highly entertaining review! cool series, keep em coming!
Excellent review Chaz. I think you've found your review niche.
+Ted Elrick Thank you very much, Ted. I've also found my car keys (they were in the sandwich).
+PairOfDice Paradise But did you find the little piece of paper?
ArmadilloAl A good question, and one that's the answered in my upcoming video: "The Search For The Missing Instruction Paper That Ended Up Being Right Where You Left It - Way To Go".
+PairOfDice Paradise Looking forward to it!
This is what my Kickstarter dollars helped secure?
....
11/10 would back again.
The thing that makes it fun is you are supposed to stack the dice into a tower once you have all 10. The race makes stacking a speed and stability balance game
This is the funniest review of anything ever! Hilarious Chaz!
I don't know if you like Roll For It, Tenzi put out a deck of square cards that let you match your rolls to the pattern on the card. I don,t know whether it improves game play
Such a good review. My new favorite reviewer.
I had a bit of fun with the Tenzi Tower variant before repurposing the dice for my print and play of Euphoria.
Tremendous! Thrift Sift has become Can't Miss viewing for me. I hope that more terrible activities, er "games", like Tenzi, continue to show up in the thrift store aisle.
Chaz is the awesomest!
This is still the greatest Tenzi review ever, of all time!
Holy crap. "I'm grounded!" I just died!
Awesome review Chaz. I do that with nuts all the time, maybe I should become a Tenzi pro! :0)
I think what we have here is a Tenzi tantrum.
+88BillTCat88 (Slow clap.) That was pretty good. I approve. :)
Wow, I'd seen this at a mini game-shop (located in another shop) and had wondered about it, but I didn't realise it was that horrendous. 5 stars! I can't believe how this game taught me how to disarm a bomb, incredible!
glad I passed it up it looks as interesting as it sounded on the box
I think sitting in a dental office waiting room would elicit a much more sophisticated board game fabrication, one that involves brushing, or drilling, or flossing, or screaming, or something....
just great nothing else to say just great thanks chaz
Do not knock it till you try the Memoir 'Tenzi expansion, you can take out a whole section in one roll. Of course you will need 6 sets for D-Day landing. I personally recommend the Equipment Pack...you get 11 dice!
More Chaz? Yeaaah!! This is different from what Tom does when trashing a game and it is entertaining in its own way :D
Hmm update not missing Yellow but my Colors were:
White with pink pips
Green with red pips
Pink with black pips
Blue with yellow pips.
Love this series, man. For the sake of mankind, we can only hope those reviewers were just messing with us...
So funny! Must... stop... watching these.... at work.... Can't... stop... laughing...
Great review, made me smile
best review ever
I'll admit that I would totally buy this at a thrift store for a buck. I can't get 40 different colored d6 anywhere for that price. :) As for the "game", it's the sort of thing I can see a lot of people doing as a social activity. There are people who just don't want to think really hard during their game time and this fits that bill. Sadly, I think I might prefer to play Tenzi over some things that have more game to them. It would be over quickly. :)
I would love to play some games with mr. Chaz, he seems to be an awesome guy.
+Christopher Herkner
it IS a game - simple as hell but its still a game - why get butthurt - if you cannot design a game which sells just suck it up
It sounds like you're more butthurt about me (and many others) not thinking it's a game.
I COULD design a "simple as hell game" but I am aiming for something with more substance.
Oh yeah, we got this for Christmas. We mostly use it for Fiasco.
Great job. Really funny. For the right price I'll be buying this one.
LOL. Great review. The punishment excuse was the best. :-)
Chaz is the best reviewer, most entertaining and funniest guy on the Dice Tower.
Followed by Zee...
Most informative is Tom however.
It kinda is math... It's called subitizing. Helps with number fluency.
This review was hilarious XD
"Yay!" :p
you forget that its not just about the mind in this game, speed and dexterity matter too. We had a great time with 8 people. Mindlesss silly fun. Like PIT.
This was amazing. I laughed so hard I couldn't breath.
Are you sure you got the rules right Chaz ? It looks like there is more to it ;)
Wow those amazon reviews are just mind blowing...
5:30 Just that rhyme alone made the video worth watching.
I don't see how anyone would willingly play this. I guess some really love dice; or they are just simple-minded.
Don't forget to give Tenzi a 1/10 on BGG. It's our duty!
It's bizarre. I watched a documentary recently (in french) which explored the Amazon reviews and how they receive free stuff "just" to give 5 star rating for all their products...This looks like it's one of them
+bARRY dOUBLET (BoardGamesEverybodyShould)
thats conspiracy theory stuff - and you need some proof to back that up
+dante ferno Well, there's no X-Files at the moment, so I have to occupy myself somehow

Tenzi is swahili for hymns, you stand corrected. still a great laugh
Chaz is missing the point totally on this one - its a speed game - its much like criticising the 100m dash simply because there is no decision making
nice supply of D6s
+dante ferno By that criteria 52 pick up is a real game too.
+ISOHaven no need to be butthurt over a differing opinion
+Seth Dortch
of course - why try to defend this video? - its just one of those videos which highlights the pettiness of modern gamers
dante ferno Pettiness? I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at. If you're implying Chaz is a gaming snob I don't agree with you on that. And as you already said, it is a different opinion anyway. This "game" makes Candyland look strategic. That's more of a game than this is.
So it's like Roll for It...with just one goal? Wow... umm...wow...
I love Tenzi.
This game is the Wheaton Dice Curse incarnate.
Honestly.... I feel like too many gamers forget to just have fun now and then. Fast frantic games like this DO have their place. It's not about the choices, it's about the random chaos. Chaz, dude, you are too funny. I could watch you complain about anything and laugh.
At least it's not Candyland? The components of this "game" can be easily re-purposed, so it has that going for it... I guess...
mindlessly rolling dice a buncha times? sounds like to me!
Fantastic
Hmm. My family and I love this game. I hate you didn't enjoy it!
Explain how King of Tokyo is better than this game. You pick a face on the die and hope you roll it on the others. You can't choose to attack, you can't choose not to attack, you can't choose to heal. This is KoT without cardboard stands and extra smaller dice.
i love mr marler
Says more about Amazon than Tenzi! :D
I don't care what you say! I played this with some friends, and made up some New game modes, and I never laughed more
*10 Dice Games better than Tenzi* - *Don't L.L.A.M.A. Dice* (2021), *Can’t Stop* (1980), *Yahtzee* (1956), *High Score* (2021), *Spots* (2022), *Roll For It* (2011), *Gang of Dice* (2022), *Las Vegas* (2012), *Las Vegas Royale* (2019), *Ra the Dice Game* (2009)...
Haha, is that really all this game is??? Amazon is constantly recommending it to me.
Pretty funny, man...
Chaz needs a big jackhammer. Tom, set aside some funds!!!
Maybe it's a drinking game.
+Michael Mahn I put a glass of water by the game for half an hour, but it didn't drink anything.
+Michael Mahn Possibly - you drink until either the game becomes fun, or you pass out (I'm guessing I know which will come first)
It looks like it would be more fun to pull athletic tape off my hairy leg than to play Tenzi.
Wow.
p.s Thanks Chaz
I probably won't be watching this guy's reviews anymore.
awesome
far too many elitist "gamers" on this comments
accept it IS a game
accept its a simple as can be - nothing wrong in that
accept that some people actually WOULD like this game, just because you dont doesnt mean other people think the same
as for the BS about Amazon reviews being faked ....dish out the proof or you appear like a tin foil hat wearer
poor video by Chaz but it does highlight the latent snobbery of modern gamers
+rustedbeetle it is a game though and how do you explain the high rating on Amazon?
+dante ferno People who obviously need to watch a few Dice Tower videos.
+rustedbeetle
that sounds very elitist - people are entitled to their opinion
ummmm....beakman is never worng......errrr wrong. he's the poor man's bill nye.
+Aurumnus Q You are correct about Beakman. Lester, the guy in the rat suit, is who I was referring to as always being wrong. :)
