Metallurg Novokuznetsk - Named after iron and steel mining in the area. Sergei Bobrovsky's childhood team.------------------- (Team is not in KHL anymore)
This is brilliant! Dad and I are going to make a follow up video on on the KHL since we made some mistakes in this one. We will use some of the information you posted, thank you :)
Jokerit chose the 'Wild card' as their logo because there is another Finnish team called the 'Aces' and they decided to continue with the playing cards theme
So true! How could they "eff" this one up so bad?!?! One of the most iconic hockey logos throughout the world! That's embarrassing...You had Spartak already earlier in the list and then you just bring it up again.... Yes, this list needs a major make-over! PS: Erik Karlsson played for Jokerit during the last lockout. But before you get more confused: Karlsson is Swedish, Jokerit Helsinki is Finnish and KHL is a (mainly) Russian Hockey League. :-)
I started following the KHL just before the lockout happened and haven't looked back, I love it. SKA St. Petersburg and Omsk are probably my two favourite teams!
Gotta say, I absolutely love the Avangard Omsk jerseys. Wings down both sleeves, it just looks incredible. And while I’m neutral on the red/blue color combination, Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod has a pretty sleek jersey too.
Dinamo Minsk's logo is of a Bison. The European Bison is the national animal of Belarus, which is the country Minsk is the capital of, hence the reason for the Bison in the logo.
Worth to mention regarding Lokomotiv Jaroslav is that in 2011 the team was in a airplane crash during their trip to Minsk, that killed almost everyone in their team. They eventually rebuilt and lots of the other teams reached out to help.
Neil, I heard that the Avangard logo symbolizes a hawk, so the team has a nickname "Hawks". They chose it to show their speed and danger for other teams. To me, it also looks like the letter A, which obviously stands for Avangard.
Thaks a lot this vid!) Frankly speaking I've been really wayting for it) And one important tip: METALLURG MAGNITOGORSK, it's not a dog on our logo, it's a fox) Looking forward to the ranking of KHL jersies!)
Your #5, Jaroslavl Lokomotiv, the whole team died back in 2011 in a plane crash... the saddest day in hockey... one of the dead was a famous former NHL player, Pavol Demitra...
One of the more interesting things about these videos is the way they reflect sporting culture in Europe compared to North America. For instance, most of the KHL's Russian teams are relatively old and were founded during the Soviet era. They are often associated with either state companies (serving as teams for workers at a specific factory or plant), such as Lada, Neftekhimik or Metallurg, or with the so-called sports societies that are in term associated with a government agency (Dinamo being an all-union society associated with the political police - hence the similarity in logos between the Dinamo teams since they were in fact sister franchises from different Soviet republics - CSKA and SKA with the army etc). An interesting fact is that Spartak is also a sports society, but without affiliation to any specific government branch. The teams of the Swedish SHL often have a history of originating as neighbourhood teams (Färjestad, Frölunda and Brynäs are all names of neighbourhoods ) or an amalgamation of such teams joining up to form a city-wide team (HV71, Linköping). Many of them also started out as general sports teams, with football or bandy usually being played before the formation of the hockey division (Djurgården, Färjestad, Rögle - the latter two even being named "ball clubs" officially due to their common combination of those two sports being played by the same club during the respective seasons. This brings us to Finland, where it is not uncommon for a larger town to have one or several teams on every level, from professional through semi-pro to various amateur levels. As shown in the Liiga logo video, many clubs also have multiple divisions, with HIFK, Ilves and TPS boasting teams in the higher leagues of association football. Also, bear in mind that most European leagues have a promotion/relegation system, meaning there is a huge variation in location of franchises since their league affiliation is determined solely by performance. An interesting example is Tingsryd in the Swedish second tier, whose arena can accomodate a fourth of the whole municipality and more people than there are inhabitants in the entire town. Also, I'd like to mention the fierce rivalry between Mora and Leksand, two teams from very small, neighbouring towns. The latter is arguably the most supported team across all of Sweden, and their arena can fit *literally every single inhabitant* of the municipality and still have a couple hundred seats left. Despite this, it is sold out a few times per season and the two rival teams have on two occasions used the Globe Arena in Stockholm for their matchups, cramming 12,5 thousand people into it despite the capital being 270 km away from the nearest of the two towns. Sure, the NHL is the league with the most history and the best teams and players, and some franchises (*insert Original Six reference) are as legendary as they get, but when it comes to passion, hardcore fans and the ability to unite a whole city, the two major Scandinavian leagues are second to none. Anyhow, the love of the game is what unites us all, regardless of which team we support or what league we prefer.*end of marathon post* / (Swedish/Finnish) Linköping, Ilves & Leafs fan
Brent: "The history is great the letters mean Hockey Athletic Olympic Club Mens Ice Hockey Sports club, the backwards 4 means "CH" Like chocolate, it's located in Croatia" Neil: "I like the colours" No hate , great video
#12 Avangad, logo is the letter "A", stylized for hawk, the second name(not official) of the team Hawks. In russian it sounds something like this: Yastreby.
1. "Salavat Yulaev" is based in Ufa, Bashkiria. It has been named after Salvat Yulaev, an ethnic Bashkir and a peasant uprising hero during the reign of Catherine the Great (in the 1770s). 2. "Dynamo" Minsk is from Belorussia (Belorus, Belarus) famous for its wild bisons, hence the logo. 3. "Avangard"'s logo is a hawk and an "A" at the same time (for "Avangard", obviously). 4. "Yugra" has a mammoth on the logo, not an elephant. They have unearthed a lot of mammoths from Siberia's permafrost areas (Yugra is located in West Siberia).
European bison can be found in Poland as well, the main reserve for European bison is on Polish-Belarussian border. There is around 1500 bisons in Poland, about 1000 in Belarus and 250 in Ukraine when it comes to native populations. Also bison has been reintroduced into other countries as well, most notably around 500 animals in Russia, but there are smaller populations in other countries.
One mistake, the joker you had is not a Moscow team, it's actually the Finnish team called Jokerit. They've only been in khl for a few years, before they played in Finnish liiga and they've been one of the more successful teams over the years.
Guys sorry for criticism, BUT your preparation for this review was poor to zero. The man who knows Russian alphabet saved the day here and there but not enough to give a fair and interesting or educating review to an audience that knew nothing but could have learned something. Yes besides Helsinki Jokerit, and Lada being indeed an automaker which sponsors the club and Omsk Avangard with perhaps a Falcon flying thru forming an Obvious A, Siberian Mammoth being called an elephant, dissing on old school Spartak and Dynamo D logos which are simply iconic and many more. Again no offense, i do appreciate the effort and definitely the interest, but I think you could have done a little more research prior to making this video. Thanks, and keep'em coming fellas
+vkmariner1 this was never meant to he an educational video, just as every logo video like this in the series isn't meant to be. It's a fun video not to be taken seriously. Additionally historical significance has nothing to do with a logo ranking based on visual appeal alone. I understand what you are saying, but I ranked these without research on purpose to avoid a biased opinion.
You still could have looked up the teams' backgrounds so you would have something to talk about in the video. The way you were guessing everything you tried to infer from the logos alone left a really unprofessional and lazy impression. One thing you seem to fail to understand is that European sports clubs are not franchises like in North America. Most have a founding background beyond the need to fill a team slot in some closed series, and most represent something disconnected from the world of sports. For example, my favourite club, Jokerit, is traditionally a blue-collar club, whilst the local rival, HIFK, is traditionally a white-collar club. For this reason, ranking the logos based on aesthetic appeal alone whilst disregarding everything else about the club does not work very well. The club sends a message, and that message is extended to the logo's appearance. Without understanding that message, you cannot evaluate how well the logo succeeds in it.
And btw i know this can be hard but can you try doing video about ranking logos from Mestis (Second highest league in finland after Liiga) There is couple of pretty cool logos
Yup, we got the Jokerit wrong, our bad.
Post2Post do eihl logos (British league)

You can see the boost in confidence compared to earlier videos. Less pauses than usual. Pretty awesome Neil :)
best hockey channel on earth you'll definitely reach way more subs in the future I swear
The Avangard Omsk logo is an A with a Hawk through it. It is a reference to the team being called Omsk Hawks before they joined the KHL.
great video, I love this channel, when you guys have millions of subs, remember I was 57
That Russian in the beginning though! Nice!
I know this is 4 years old. But I think Avangard Omsk is the coolest looking team in the KHL. Their uniforms look like wings.
Yeah, rank KHL jerseys.

#14 the Miami Heat have unveiled their new logo! 😂
Keegan Culp D Wade doesn't approve
I'm glad that Brent doesn't get hit by a train every time Neil says "I like Trains".
Dinamo Minsk's logo is of a Bison. The European Bison is the national animal of Belarus, which is the country Minsk is the capital of, hence the reason for the Bison in the logo.
Please do more KHL!!!
Nice video , waited for this video so long !

1. The logo at #16 belongs to Jokerit, from Helsinki.
2. The Avangard Omsk logo is supposed to be an "A" (the birds head marks the horizontal stroke)

You three should do a video showing each of your five favorite team logos of all of the leagues that you've done so far.
#16 is Jokerit from Helsinki Finland :)
Check pinned comment :)
You should put the logo and have the jerseys with the logo on it in the background
I think the elephant at #10 is a woolly mammoth
Omsk that's the sound I make when I have diarrhea 😂😂
great video
kinda cool to read and see some nhlers drafted into the KHL incase of another lockout. i belive even mcdavid was drafted
#10 is actully a mammoth. the story is there was a mammoth found near by the city and it was the most preserved mammoth found to date.
That's awesome!
The logo for dinamo Minsk is a European bison which is very rare and can only be found in Belarus, it is also their national animal
European bison can be found in Poland as well, the main reserve for European bison is on Polish-Belarussian border. I think the bird at nr 12 (Avangard Omsk) is the letter A also. Just looks to me like an A.
The difference bestween a buffalo and a bison is that you can't wash your hands in a buffalo but you can in a basin 😂
RIP! I hoped you would know about the airplanecrash with Lokomotiv
Yes that Spartak logo was made in the 70’s... so was Moscow Dynamos... and the Torpedos are from Nishny Novgorod
I love the redstar logo (#4)! That's my favorite.
ITS THE JOKERIT!!!!! lol i had to say it even tho u guys addressed it
One mistake, the joker you had is not a Moscow team, it's actually the Finnish team called Jokerit. They've only been in khl for a few years, before they played in Finnish liiga and they've been one of the more successful teams over the years.

Arvis Cielens kinda random but ok
Could you do either 1: the worst starting goalie in every team's history or 2: most hated player from each team
+Kevin Kearney sorry I wouldn't do something 100% negative like that
Post2Post No worries. How about best captain in each team's history?
Fine fine video.
Greetings from Zagreb, Croatia. Medvescak is no longer in KHL :/
Best hockey league logos ranked
You guys should do NAHL (North American Hockey League)
Ska St. Petersburg won the Gagarin cup this past season
The same thing with Calgary Flames
12 is A *Avangard* shaped like a hawk because it is a symbol of the team
The Sochi jaguar one was my favorite
№1 Адмирал! Admira1!
1a. Lokomotiv Yaraslavl
1b. Metallurg Magnitogorst
Love them both

I have a feeling there's a lot of cats on logos because it's so hard to mess up a cat lol

Neftekhimik literally means "Oiler" in Russian. They like to name their teams in honor of industrial objects (because USSR)
The mascot for Metallurg Magnitogorsk is a fox.
