First time I've ever seen someone integrate a repair stand in. This just cemented my decision to make one. The only thing I'd change is that I'm going to get a tool hanger that's like a U to straddle the seatpost under the seat rather than the one you used. Should reduce play play and forth when working on the bike.
I just built one today ....was on it for 30 mins ....by the end of my first little session on it I could hold it for 1 min ....I would say that's a fast progression. I'm really impressed with how simple yet very effective this is . It's all about getting over that fear of going over backwards ...once you master that . It's a blast . And a great workout . Nice build and great idea for the bike stand . Might have too steal that one lol thanks. I have a video up of me trying it out today
So I've already got a repair stand. But I'm considering building a manual machine. This is the first design I've seen that has that inner tube limiter idea. That's a great concept. I also never considered removing the chain, but that's simply because I haven't actually experienced using a manual machine, before.

In the coming weeks I was planning on finally making a manual machine. Luckily this popped up because I'm going to copy this design. Sure, I have a repair stand, but if friends are over and we need to work on multiple bikes it'll come in handy. Also, for washing my bike I can use that rather than my nice metal stand. I really like the idea of the tube as there's no shock and it allows you to settle into a position better than a strap would. Great stuff you got there!
Don’t think I’ll build the bike stand part, but the rest is awesome. Thanks for the tip on adapting a 26” wheel in. Now my daughter and I can use the same machine. 👍🏼
yes, I agreed not need for the side wings. I made one without it, it helps us to train our body muscle to the side balance...
and for the restraining rubber, I also don't have. I put the back of the machine close to a wall, but not to close just enough for the balance point and lean on it for the couple of first tries
Yup, I want that. There’s a few ideas here that could be improved on but the general idea is great. The balance wings, wheel diameter adjustment, tire tube limiter and the basic concept is very good. I don’t think it matters how you got there. Since I have a work stand (sounds like Shark Pools) and most of the equipment, I could build a variation of your machine. I have a emtb but I don’t have the confidence yet to manual or the proper technique to pull the wheel(s) over obstacles. This machine could help. Your pretty good with that wood-cutter-thingy-tool too.
Thanks MJ! I suppose the little hook might not hold up that e-bike of yours haha. Learning to get that front wheel up, even for very short durations is a massive skill to have on the trail, for sure. If you end up building a variation, I'd love to see it! Cheers

My brother talked about making a bike repair stand that would fit his 29 aventon aventure. So when you said you were making a " manuel machine (we call it doing wheelies) ( which he @ 68 and me @ 72 never tried before ( yes we are in poor health lol) but as soon as you said repair stand also you made life so much easier. He actually described part of what you justbl built and it actually needs to be supported be the seat. ( electric and heavy so probably thicker wood. Thanks, and I have to tell you ive never enjoyed an instructional video as much as yours. (Even if you are Canadian and use " ugh" millimeters)😅 Maybe Ill try the manuel machine as it looks "wheelie" cool.

@@TheLoamRanger in fact it did.. I approached my son (11 years old) this morning after watching your video and asked him if we should attempt to build it today..he was very excited! After the few hours of building he jumped on his bike and struggled for about the first 10-15 minutes... I had kept his chain on at first, and he learned that if he put a bit of pressure on the peddles he could hold it in the air. So removed his chain and after the first couple tries bingo..he can now hold it up.. he was so excited! Thank you so much for posting videos like this.. Your channel was the first mountain bike channel I subscribed to last may when my son and I decided to start riding more, and it led us to start doing the sun peaks bike park in kamloops b.c. and other great trails in the area, and we are planning to hopefully do Whistler and silverstar (vernon b.c) this upcoming summer. 9:01 you dont need that side wings at back, yes, they are more stable but, they gonna break you wheel if you going to fall to the side, trust me ;)
Good tip.. I decided to build one without the side 'wings', and it works just fine without them.. I was worried about the rim, but this is a good solution, as it is pretty stable without the wings. It can move / roll without taco-ing my rim when my 200 lbs goes falling sideways

Instead of removing the chain whenever you want to use the manual contraption take the pawls out of the freehub of an old wheel and use that instead. Also stops the risk of pringleing your best rear wheel.

You could use the innertube connected to the stem when in repair stand mode to stabilise the front end

I actually did a similar build except for a bit more complicated I guess, but allowed me to actually mount a flange like, anywhere, check it out man you might wanna try it. Got one mounted to the trainer, the porch (bike wash), and the workshop area. Nice idea though on this simple design!

You have rotor clearance, but what about derailleur clearance? I guess you could put a sram derailleur in the lock position but something to consider

I was on a ski bike (a "freestyle" one, like a fs bike) and it was really easy to get the front wheel up. I could just lean on that

god dam it! you are supposed to pre drill a hole before driving the dam screw in all the way!!, that helps preventing cracking and increases durability over constand stress on the wood!

I m thinking about build one myself. But i would like to be able to quick disassemble it. And have it as small as possible. What are the drawbacks of not having the front tire touching down on wood? making it very short would be great. Dont have a lot of space to waste.
Looks like the manual machine can out well enough but I have my doubts about repair stand. No seatpost/ tube clamp. Seems more like a bike display than a tool.
Fair enough! For quick repairs I'd say it's pretty solid. For more detailed work you may want to shell out for some kind of clamp to bolt onto it.

In case anyone needs to hear this - it's possible to drive screws in with a hand screwdriver. You don't *need* to go back to Canadian Tire and get a new power drill. :D

I hadn’t realized that Pole started making a dirt jump bike, it’s really cool to see that they’re expanding their lineup.
14:04 for me bike hanging so loosely is not acceptable. also I need to be able to to put bike in different angles, when working on brakes for example, I currently use mechanical brakes so I add Loctite to the pad adjustment, those threads need some Loctite 243. which putting bike pointing up, a great deal easier.

I'm pretty sure you can get tabletop mount clamps so I bet you could rig that up quite nicely.
Hey how did this work with the various wheel sizes from 24" to 29?? I have 29, 27.5, 26 and 24" (kids FS)...I'm also doing a second one for the 20" BMX and kids 16" BM & DJ. Hoping to just have the two and use the block. Does a loose block like that word just fine or do you need to bolt it in?

The written instructions were great- we didn't need to watch the videos, but it was good knowing that the option was there if we needed it. After we were able to get it set up, the boys each rode 3 miles and I rode 8 and the bike stayed quiet. The display is easy to reset, and you can put it on whichever setting you are using (time, distance, calories, etc). I will say that my butt is a little sore from the seat, but that could be because I haven't rode in a while. While it is comfortable for me, it was not comfortable with the seat position for my friend (could not move the seat back far enough and he slightly looked like a kid riding a tricycle that he had outgrown). He also said that the seat hurt his manly parts. We are going to look for a different seat that will be compatible with this bike for him.I did purchase the Wahoo Cadence sensor and strapped it to the crank of one of the pedals. This will sync with my Apple Watch, iPhone and will import data in to my Health app. Wahoo does have other sensors available other than cadence. I can also keep either my phone or my iPad on the display and they both feel pretty secure.

the whole argument of cheap vs expensive repair stands doesn't really stand up in my opinion and experience (pun intended)- I've got one of those "cheap" repair stands (the generic one that many brands sell) I've had it for nearly 10 years, I wash my bikes on it and use it for all my maintenance, I've always got a bike on it as storage. its never missed a beat in 10 years, and I've never thought I've needed a more expensive one
If you’re in the USA, it’s called a WHEELIE!!
A wheelie is when your seated and pedaling with your front wheel off the ground. A manual is when your front wheel is off the ground, your butt is off the seat and you’re letting gravity propel you forward (no pedaling). Same thing in the USA 🤘🏼🍻
Greetings from Saskatchewan again... Little tip: invest in an impact driver. They're alot better than using those cheap Canadian Tire drills, espetially for screwing!
Instead of installing that bar for your bike stand just hang the bike by the rubber tube. Thats all i have in my garage is a rope.

Thanks for the video content! Sorry for butting in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Tarbbatigan Cars Rehabilitation Tip (search on google)? It is a good one of a kind product for learning how to repair your car the easy way minus the hard work. Ive heard some decent things about it and my old buddy Taylor at last got astronomical success with it.
You should learn to roll out and onto your feet before attempting manuals. Just fyi
