Have been very happy with them and was quite surprised at their ability to play loud in what is a rather large and open space. I agree with Kristi here...I think they're trying reel in a new customer demographic...because to be honest, their current demographic of traditional "audiophiles" is starting to age out buying new stuff...without getting too dark, a lot of the people in that demographic are to the point where they're probably buying their last audio systems...so S/F needs to start attracting a younger more tech savvy group with features more in tune with modern times...hopefully they don't sacrifice build and audio quality to include those modern features though
I agree with the general assessment of aging audiophiles and the systems they purchase but the last comment about tech savvy Millenial and younger Gen Z....try setting up and using all the features of a modern high end receiver or home theater pre-amp/amp combo. Mind numbing all the different setup parameters and sub folders ect...so it is more what tech people want to be savvy with vs just tech savvy people
It will likely be a slow change from traditional hifi systems to smart speakers like these for those who have participated in the hobby for so long, but speakers like this are undoubtedly the future.
I recently did a side-by-side comparison audition of the Duetto's with the Sonetto 2's (powered by a simple Cambridge CXA81) and, to my ears, disappointingly, the Duetto's did not even come close. I really wanted them to, too. They look beautiful and would have been functionally ideal for my use case. But I found them congested and fatiguing. I agree with your description of their sound in other regards: the bass is great; tonality is... not terrible; they are not bright or harsh; the soundstage is large. But, to my ears, the instrument separation was bad. Really bad. I noticed that you described it as the edges being blurred and Kristi mentioned that the intelligibility of voices not being best. I agree; but I thought it was much worse than that. The busier the music got, the more I just wanted to turn the Duetto's off. By contrast, the Sonetto 2's were utterly beguiling. I am used to MUCH higher-end equipment; but I spent almost 3 hours mostly captivated by the music. Auditioning be damned, I just could not stop listening to those little Sonetto's. But, when I switched to the Duetto's - in the same room and listening session - I felt the opposite: I could not keep listening to them. For the average Sonos or B&O Play listener, Im sure the Duetto's sound great. But, to my ears, the Duetto's do not deliver any of the magic that made Sonus Faber famous and special; except for the pretty cabinets. Maybe the ones I heard did not have enough hours on them yet? But, as a multi-decade owner of multiple Sonus Faber speakers, including Cremona Auditors and Olympica 3's, the Duetto's were the most disappointing SF product I've ever heard.
I can't speak to how the Sonettos compare as I haven't heard them. Regarding the Duetto's intelligibility, based on hearing tests, I know that my hearing acuity is not quite as good as Andrew's. I know he stated in the review that he felt intelligibility was good whereas I know that I need a little more help up top, which is why I find the Lumina II's clearer. I wonder if you might be in a similar camp. Being a "multi-decade" owner of the brand's speakers, it is possible that one of their other speakers might be a better match for you especially if your ability to hear certain frequencies has changed with time. -- Just a thought to consider! As for the other issues you mentioned, I can't say I had that experience. Thank you for sharing yours!
Thanks Kristi. I did not know the Sonettos before that audition either. I only listened to them as a point of comparison to assess the Duetto's. Really, the issue I found with the Duetto's - that I think people should know about - was the congested, fatiguing sound. And like I said, I REALLY wanted to love them. I wanted to buy them. But going from the Sonetto to the Duetto was like switching from Tidal Master quality, to low res MP3 via Bluetooth 4.0. It was that bad. It was an almost instant "Ew. No". I can only assume the processing and amplification is just not up to the SF cabinet and driver standard? I think the Duetto is DEFINITELY a speaker to audition before buying. @@KristiWright
I agree with you, the duettos need a good 5+ feet in between the speakers to let them breathe and get some separation. Any less than that and they feel cluttered and congested, I would give them a demo at the distance you plan to have them at home before buying a pair. The bass is so elevated on these speakers as well that even in a medium to large room with an open floor plan I found myself turning the volume down and wanting to pull the bass down it was so fatiguing. Another issue that Andrew and Kristi didn't run into is that if you have other equipment or furniture inbetwern the speakers they would tend to lose signal or make strange noises when trying to reconnect to each other. Otherwise these are some of best looking and sounding active smart speakers on the market at their price.
He has reviewed them. He was gushing about them at the time - saying they may have been the best sounding B&W speakers ever. But then it depends if you like the particular B&W sound or prefer another sound signature.
Andrew, you mentioned how "Masters of the Air" had some vocal issues. I've chatted with several of my friends about this. We've determined that the majority of Apple TV shows appear to be "mixed down" in the vocal range. This becomes very apparent when watching in (non-Atmos) 5.1 or 7.1 surround. The Center channel always seems too quiet compared to Netflix, Amazon Streaming, Hulu, etc. It's not just "Masters" but other ATV shows as well. Just my $0.02.
*Good morning/afternoon/evening! How is everyone doing today? Did you do anything fun/new this weekend?* *As always, thank you so much for joining us and watching!*
Sorry to all the audiophile purists out there but THIS IS the future of HiFi. Wireless Active speakers are more than a statement; they are here to stay. And with tech like AI, frequency profiling, REW, DSP, automatic calibration and sonic delivery adaptation based on the room imperfections they will allow the user to mould the speakers to the sonic character they desire (regardless of the location and room qualities). Instead of going down the (lucrative expensive) road of amp pairing trials till you find the one that “matches” to your taste why not have that capability built into the speakers in the first place? Plus, real estate saving - no need to store decks of amps preamps, DACs, streamers etc. I am ready to embrace the smart powered speaker dark side Andew, bring it on!! :) Granted, they are not there yet as many of the techs need improvement (AI, Bluetooth tech, profiling, streaming etc) but we can see the end of the tunnel for sure . Note: if you want that kind of capability to the max, try Dutch & Dutch 8c, it will blow your socks off!
@@Echo-jg8is because the community (and other manufacturers) at large have needed powered speakers to NOT take off to sell more amps, preamps, sources, cables etc. However, in 30 years there is definitely a change underway as more and more brands are jumping aboard the powered speaker train. Meridian may have been ahead of the curve, but to suggest that powered speakers don't sell isn't exactly accurate.
@@Echo-jg8is 30 years ago the tech I mentioned did not exist and the few that did (DSP Bluetooth) were nowhere near where they are today. So pls try to catch up with what is currently available. Oh, and powered speakers do sell more (Andrew mentions it in the video as well). They just don’t sell at the very high premium range of HiFi yet, but that is shifting as well.
@@Echo-jg8is I agree that both have the main tech concepts (amps + preamps + DACs + streamers etc) available to them, the same way computers have Motherboard + CPU + Graphics Card + Sound Card + Hard Disc + RAM + Powers Supply + Keyboard + Mouse + Monitor etc. Now it’s up to you to whether you want that tech incorporated into a home desktop with a large box + separate keyboard + monitor, + mouse + external speakers or all integrated and compact in a laptop portable config. Both have their uses but it’s apparent that the technology has evolved to a level where laptops have outperformed desktop sales significantly and that figure only goes up. Same thing will apply to HiFi. As a musician myself (electric guitar player) I can see that in my world to be honest. Amp simulations (NEURAL DSP, Quad Cortex, Axe FX, Kemper etc) have made significant leaps in technology allowing us to replace tube amps for studio productions and live setups. That would be unthinkable 8-9 years ago. In a world where guitarists are quite stubborn, very conservative and sceptical of replacing their beloved tube amps (Marshalls, Fenders, Boogies etc) this is becoming the norm. Profiling technology has become so good (and will only get better) that the difference between a tube guitar amp and an amp simulation software is almost indistinguishable. So why not use the software where is cheaper, far more portable and adaptable to any situation possible? Same will apply for HiFi equipment.
I’m glad that more and more brands are going in this direction. We need some properly powered towers as well. And not just “lower end” but also proper hifi, like imagine KEF R11 Meta being fully powered from the factory.. sounds like a dream to me. I do mean just powered.. I don’t need it to have Alexa, or Google built in. Just an app for control and setup and that’s it. Most “smart” speakers today are dumber than simple ones.. Can’t wait for a fully powered future to knock on our door though. Great video as always!
@@andrewrobinsonreviews just imagine B&W doing the 801 Signature fully powered… it’s not like they don’t have space within those speakers to put a bunch of good amplification in.. that would be an end game system for a lot of people (that can afford those of course), but it would also be proper competition to B&O Beolab 90. What a head to head review would that be…. 🤯
@@gavriushkaif B&W produces a smart powered 805 with all the issues of the Formation Duos solved (lack of physical connectivity, drop outs, better app etc), it will most certainly be my end game speaker.
@@gpapa31 same for me. Absolutely! I have nothing but respect for Klipsch for pushing this further with their 5, 7 and 9 speaker sets. And now Sonus Faber joining the fray, is amazing. That means more brands are becoming on alert and means we might see eventually B&W replacing the Duos with a new model or even multiple ones. At least I’m hopeful for it. I would absolutely love a system fully built into the speakers, with HDMI, amp and Dac built in. That’s absolutely a game changer and end game system for me. Zero clutter, zero cables (aside for power and HDMi) and 1000% enjoyment.
Hello- love your video as usual. Well balanced and relevant. How would you compare these to B&W Duos from purely music listening sound quality perspective.
The B&Ws would be a worthy competitor, though they'll likely come across as slightly more dynamic and bright or extended if you compare the two head-to-head.
Those speakers were like "yo bro..gimmie a second...damn" They are wild looking..in a good way. I'm not ready for powered speakers yet, I'm still holding on to my separates. But powered speakers if done right, input/outputs..resolving DAC, DSP, power, renderer, is the future. Convenience Oh yeah..its all about that app!!!
I think these are wonderful. In a small room, I'd be concerned there's no bass management. Would using it conjunction with a sub like the SVS Micro 3000 help to get that bass tight and unbloated?
But for size and price, I see a use case around a home office. My home theater setup uses Lumina V, C, and in-ceiling sonus faber. I'd love to upgrade my desk setup from Jamo 801PS to Lumina I (better size) or II and possibly consider a rear setup for multi-channel stereo. A smaller powered option from Sonus Faber would be a perfect option.
Hi Andrew !! I love all your videos very informative since we don't have a physical store test out any speakers. Question for you why test out any Mark Levinson products
IP access is great for equipment that allows for a full range of setup and customization options. I would expect an app to not be identical, as the app would be expected to have a functional subset of control options critical for just controlling the equipment remotely.
That freeze frame of your wall gives me anxiety, can't wait to see what you have planned there. I still prefer B&O or even Sonos (not to be confused with Sonus) which continually impress me for the cost. With that said, I'd definitely consider SF here depending on application, thanks for the review.
These and the Klipsch powered speakers are appealing, but i think speakers stay useful and reliable much longer than electronics - would hate to throw these away in 10 years because the amps become glitchy. i'm still running 35 year old speakers with minor maintenance - replace the woofer surrounds every couple of decades . I'm also running some vintage amps, but those are for hobby, not regular listening - altetays need contacts cleaned, and while they have the lovely vintage sound, are just not as good as comperable stuff now.
Hey guys, nice informative video as usual. After noticing your large coffee table, I just want to mention that after throwing a thick blanket over my large coffee table. The Sonus Faber Sonetto's gave me a little more weight to its sound. Just wondered if you guys are as mad as me.
A pair of these, each one flanked at the side of a TV, would look pretty damn good in my opinion. To further enhance that setup configuration a couple of things could be done that would elevate this pairing to showcase standards; or to just simply show off to family and friends. For visualization effects a slide show of Pablo Picasso artwork would look good scrolling across the screen. For audio playback some string quartet music from the Baroque period would be the 'piece de resistance'. It would be like art defining art. BTW: 👍👍@ timestamp 20:10
Love the furniture style of Sonus Faber... That Italian finesse is unbeatable. They make speakers look expensive. Wish more manufactures get influenced by the design and bring some elements in their own speakers. After all, speakers are head pieces in a room, and if manufactures want to place them in a way that their products sounds great rather than hiding them in the corners, they should make them prettier, making us not to threat them like a microwave oven.
Another great video, and one that (as a KEF LS50WII owner) is right up my alley. I admit that I have always thought of SF as a brand that puts a little too much emphasis on looks and finish (which are obviously first rate) over ultimate sound quality (compared to say, KEF, Revel, or even B & O), and this review felt like a bit of a confirmation of that impression. It is also unfortunate that the lack of a quality remote or better app seem to be par for the course for brands like this entering into this space - but I would hope in 2024 this problem starts to become a thing of the past. I am 55, and I do 90% or more of my listening through my phone, and it seems clear that the market is shifting that way, quickly. I know you've had some bad experiences with Dali, so maybe their offering is out of the question... how about the JBL 4329P, or even its little brother, the 4305P? Not exactly stunners visually, but otherwise solid competitors.
Really interesting. Been pondering on these and specifically vs the KEFs LS60 for our new holiday house in Scotland. Going to have to side by side compare i think!
@@andrewrobinsonreviews I heard the LS60 at my audio dealers and they are unnnnreal, especially as this was out on the floor, not in the listening room, and close to the wall, and they're willing to throw me a pretty good deal for an ex display pair (more like three grand than four and a half RRP!). However, I don't love the aesthetic much... I'm more of a Wharfedale Lintons and VU meters kind of guy. We need to kit the house out so will be using a Cambridge AXR85, some old Monitor Audios, an Audiolab streamer and a forty year old Turntable that live in my office in the near term. So will be probably three months of auditioning when I drive past the dealer before I get to a decision point!!!
Hi, which acoustics do you think sounds better, beolab 8 or Sonus faber Duetto, please tell me, I want to buy but I’m confused, I’m interested in the bass and sound quality, Thank you
Very nice looking speakers, beautiful fit and finish on them. I personally would probably save money and go with klipsch the Nines even if they don't look as nice.
I would go with the project speaker box s2, Marantz Stero 70s and the Rel tzero subwoofer. 550+900+400 pounds is 1850 pounds. More features and more flexibility.
Thank you for the video! I am a headphone user, am looking into a pair of bookshelves or stand-mount so this is hood information for me. I am not happy with my LG soundbar S95QR, specially when playing music although my wife likes it for its clarity when dialogue comes out from the surrounding sides while she watches late night. I’d seen your positive reviews of the Samsung Q990C but would wait till you get your hands on the Nakamichi Dragon.
I considered it, but the others ranked higher and using a title that is too long isn't good. It would be nice if RUclips would simply start serving us again. Hard to gain traction on less than 9K impressions.
Hi Andrew! I am from India. Have you ever heard Taga Harmony Tav 607 5.0 with Taga Harmony tsw 212se? If yes pls let me know How it sounds for movies & music?
We've not considered reviewing anything from the brand since the owner (publicly) falsely suggested we expected money in exchange for a review as the reason we weren't covering their products.
Hey Andrew!! LOVE your videos! Could you review the Pioneer A30K Integrated Amplifier? It's a bit older and VERY budget- friendly, but I think very underrated or at least unknown in it's performance and built quality at this pricepoint! I run it with my Klipsch RP 600M's and would love to hear your opinion.
As much as I'd love to confirm your opinions on the Pioneer, considering how challenging it is to get new products, you can imagine how unlikely it is for a brand to send something old or possibly discontinued.
I've heard from more than one person how these speakers look better in person than in video or photos as you pointed out. The Nines and Sevens are amazing for price and features with quality. I'd love to grab the SFs but that price point just hurts. Another great video guys.
Had these for a week, riddled with connection problems! mine even had quality control issues on the cabinet - unequal gaps and poor finishing. Returned them and got some JBL 4305P's which were half the price but so much better in every way.
I’ll take the bait. The Rotel/Cambridge combo with a pair of Lumina ii? I think it might give this active speaker a run for its money… will be curious to know what you both think.
Only last sunday there was a ten piece rock band in the park using these speakers as their mains. They added on two two Bose subs. I don't know how they connected them but they sounded quite good. So i walked over guy and scremed at him .....what are you doing? these are home stereo speakers. I don't speak English.... He screamed back.

Mind numbing all the different setup parameters and sub folders ect...so it is more what tech people want to be savvy with vs just tech savvy people
I will always be a separate amplifier speakers guy, but geez, these r tempting sonus faber top quality. Thx guys .
It will likely be a slow change from traditional hifi systems to smart speakers like these for those who have participated in the hobby for so long, but speakers like this are undoubtedly the future.
Aren't they?
Yea, dang it, i guess they r kinda separated 😊 .. @KristiWright

Great review
Thanks.
And away we go! Happy Sunday to all!
Here we go! Happy Sunday to you too!
Hi!
@@KristiWright Hey Kristi!
Afternoon Andrew and Kristi👍👍
Good morning! Thanks for joining us as always!
Good to see you, KJ.
Look nice. Love my SF Concertinos and Guarneri Homage speakers
and out about Formation Duos? After your review I bought myself a pair. how they compare?
Hi Andrew.
20:29 How did you find their sound quality in comparison with formation duos?
Did you do anything fun/new this weekend?*
*As always, thank you so much for joining us and watching!*
!00% AGREE! Appreciate you sharing!
Powered R11 Metas would be "end game" for me (if I didn't review gear or have a channel, of course).
I would argue they already make one. 👉 bit.ly/38uKhGE
Great review. I’m hoping for a review of the updated Luminas to see if it’s just an aesthetic upgrade or something more.
Those speakers were like "yo bro..gimmie a second...damn"
They are wild looking..in a good way. I'm not ready for powered speakers yet, I'm still holding on to my separates. But powered speakers if done right, input/outputs..resolving DAC, DSP, power, renderer, is the future. Convenience
Oh yeah..its all about that app!!!
Good review guys! Thanks for sharing.
Can you please review Beolab 8? If this is not the place for this kind of request I would I appreciate a redirection of efforts!
Wanted to comment the same :)
True..,.you need to review the biolab 8.
Hi Andrew !! I love all your videos very informative since we don't have a physical store test out any speakers. Question for you why test out any Mark Levinson products
Hi Andrew would you review or look at the Sonus Faber Sonetto I or II and let me know your thoughts and what amp would you pair it with cheers
I always thought the Bang & Olufsen were more of a high end design thing and not on par on audiophile sound, for their cost.
formation duo can be had for 2500 now
Great review. Thanks for sharing.
Appreciate you watching!
If you Add a WiiM pro+ to a Klipsch 7 or 9’s you get all the connectivity you need and plenty of EQ options for a much cost effective solution.

Beolab 8 review 😊👏🏽
Noted!
What are the speaker stands you’re using?
Hi @bp1012, You'll find that information in the description box just below the video's title. Thanks for watching!
Can you recommend a good 2 channel PC speaker system?
Love the furniture style of Sonus Faber... That Italian finesse is unbeatable. They make speakers look expensive. Wish more manufactures get influenced by the design and bring some elements in their own speakers. After all, speakers are head pieces in a room, and if manufactures want to place them in a way that their products sounds great rather than hiding them in the corners, they should make them prettier, making us not to threat them like a microwave oven.
are you blind ? the finish looks so damn cheap Just look at @0:34.... this speakers are not even worth 2k euro. Its even worse than klipsch
Another truly great review, thanks.
$4000/pair………😳
Italian with their design.
Really interesting. Been pondering on these and specifically vs the KEFs LS60 for our new holiday house in Scotland. Going to have to side by side compare i think!
Be interesting to hear what you think. I make my pick in this video but I'd be curious how others feel.
I love the design on these, so sleak.

I personally would probably save money and go with klipsch the Nines even if they don't look as nice.
I would go with the project speaker box s2, Marantz Stero 70s and the Rel tzero subwoofer. 550+900+400 pounds is 1850 pounds. More features and more flexibility.

Andrew, had you considered including the Buchardt A10s in this active speaker group ?
We've not considered reviewing anything from the brand since the owner (publicly) falsely suggested we expected money in exchange for a review as the reason we weren't covering their products.

I run it with my Klipsch RP 600M's and would love to hear your opinion.
As much as I'd love to confirm your opinions on the Pioneer, considering how challenging it is to get new products, you can imagine how unlikely it is for a brand to send something old or possibly discontinued.

Hii Andrew....Please make a review of JBL 4329p.
shouldnt there be a way to bypass the amplification if you wanted to connect them to an external one as part of a ht setup for example?
You could use the preamp outs on an AVR to connect the master Duetto's left and right analog inputs for use as left and right mains I suppose.
