This is the best EVER interview I've heard with Dr. Cywes. And Gemma, you are an excellent speaker and interviewer. You ask simple and very smart questions that all of us want to know the answers to. Thank you for all your hard work!
I watch everything he puts out. This is by far my favorite interview. Literally emotional over how much he gets it. He’s changed my life in the last year, and he doesn’t even know me.
Wow, wow, wow!!! There are so many things that I love about this talk!! You give such great analogies, making it easy for a carb addict like me to understand. I am still a newbie, but I am learning. I too am chasing health and happiness, without the crutches of sugar and alcohol. Some days are pretty easy for me, other days are hard, especially when I am swamped with emotional pain. But for the first time in my life I am willing to address some traumas that have caused me to relapse in the past. As always, thank you Dr. Cywes for you incredible insight!!
I love Dr. Cywes-the things he says resonates loudly with me, as a lifelong carb addict. I am thankful to be in remission now, but listening to him helps me stay on the right track!
Wow healthHackers, that was definitely one of the best interviews you have done yet. Fascinating! I have learnt a lot and can even think I could identify family members in the past who have most likely been addicted to carbohydrates. Thank you.
That was excellent. Love that the guy cuts through all the usual waffle about food, and how bad everything is. It's a very different take and answers a lot if questions. He certainly didn't say obesity will cause you to fall down dead. He highlighted the wear and tear on your joints. That is certainly a lot easier to relate to. Brilliant 👍☺
You're right, he didn't blame obesity, in fact: "obesity is protective not harmful"...I hadn't heard that before. Glad you watched and found it easy to relate to! Thanks for commenting :)
This info is true, life saving & realistic. In mid 50s with multiple chronic health problems - I will stay keto forever as an improvement beyond gluten free (celiac). It took a few years and is totally worth it!
What a truly fascinating episode with entirely passionate and no gimmicky flawed or contradictory fad approach - Just watched it and very tragic on the toxicity of the carbs & sugar killers alongside being very interesting in fats being neutral less addictive - I myself radically changed from decades of poor diet because of the food I was given from young age to now because of life/death reasons to eating very healthily. Truly stunning stuff - this episode can literally be life-changing for many.
Hi David - congrats on making such profound lifestyle changes that now mean you're eating very healthily. Also, sorry that it sounds like it was serious situation that sparked it for you. Thank you for watching the video and commenting. I admire Dr Cywes' confidence in straight-talking, even if it isn't what we want to hear at times!
I watched my grandmother and mother be "married" to that abusive good looking substance of sugar/starches both my grandmother legs had to be cut off my mother died super skinny at the end but ate only sugar and sweetended soft drinks. it was awful to watch and i have been on the same path of sugar addiction and Dr Cywess is so correct I have to get all of out of my house and life or i will die early.
OMG it is a constant battle to even talk to anyone about the sugar and carbs in things. I myself have pulled out carbs and sugar and so many people think I am crazy. I believe they won't take the evidence because they make no money! The USDA and big pharma..There is HUGE money in sugar on all levels..It really is so sad. Once an addict always and addict it never goes away
I’m binge watching anything to do with Dr. Cywes. I realize this video is 2 years old and no one will probably read this😂 but just in case I’m throwing this out there. I will be 50 years old in November. I’ve had disordered eating my entire life. I’ve always understood my eating and HUGE weight fluctuations throughout my life were abnormal, unhealthy and ridiculous. Embarrassing actually. This has been going on my ENTIRE life. I’ve done every diet imaginable. I’ve lost and regained the same 400 pounds in the span of about 35 years. At my heaviest I was 100 pounds overweight. At my smallest, 15 pounds underweight. I was insulin dependent gestational diabetic 4 of my 5 pregnancies and also been in therapy 3 times for depression. Never ONCE did anyone ever suggest I had a carb addiction. Never once did my weight and never ending dieting ever get correlated to my depression. Never once had the term “ insulin resistance” ever been used. It wasn’t until 3 years ago when I started keto and felt such clarity of mind, clearing of over a decade battle with skin rashes, depression, etc.. that it started me on this journey of comprehending exactly what the hell is wrong with me. I had enormous success with keto. Weight loss and an overall feeling of physical and mental/ emotional well being!! Then the pandemic hit and for emotional reasons surrounding its affects on my kids? Once again I went off the rails ( I would now call that a relapse of carb addiction) and gained 58 pounds in 2 years. After pulling my head out of my ass, I started investigating further into keto and why it worked so well for me. Why I went so far off the rails and asking myself WHY??? Why can’t I ever just get my life together in this regard??? This time I was digging deeper. I needed answers! That is when I found Dr Cywes on RUclips. I about fell over at the accuracies of literally every single thing he said in reference to what I’ve been dealing with my whole life. Now I am aware of the fact that what I am facing is addiction and I can not even let so much as a single taste of carbohydrates in the form of crap food cross my lips. No sugar, no keto look alike crap foods. No bread. No chips, candy pizza, etc.. none of it. When he said 6 months and 30 pounds I about fell over because that’s exactly how my last relapse started. A couple “ cheats” over the holidays led into the new year and shortly after that, my addiction was further fueled by the emotional collapse with the pandemic. One bite back when I had some crap food at the holidays, I was already on my way to the relapse. Of course I didn’t understand that at the time. It lasted over 2 years and 58 pounds. I am now on the best path I’ve ever been. Doing keto/carnivore and an entirely different comprehension about what this means for my life. Like an alcoholic can not just have a couple drinks. I can never have a couple bites or it starts all over again and those results will never change. It starts with the permission you start to give yourself in your mind that eventually adds to that relapse. The excuses and bullshit. No more. I’m so happy. So thankful to Dr. Cywes for his raw and unapologetic truths he is sharing for so many of us. Maybe my journey won’t be perfect but I can never NOT know what he has helped me realize. And that is priceless...❤️
Wow, Amy, you’ve been through so much! Thank you for sharing your story. I’m really pleased you liked hearing from Dr Cywes in this video. Congratulations on finding what works for you and now being in a happy place with it. 😊
Vaping is not something the tobacco companies came up with. They fought vaping quite vigorously, it was not until they realized that they were going to lose that fight when they decided to jump on the vaping band wagon. I do agree though that nothing good can come from ingesting nicotine, everyone should quit vaping and smoking. I could not quit smoking but when vaping came along it made it easy for me to give up cigarettes, after about a year off cigs I then gave up vaping pretty easily. now I don't smoke or vape. I smoked for 40 years, vaping can be a very useful tool in quitting smoking.
Rob, I so love you and totally hear you on almost everything. But have you seen David Attenborough’s latest movie? It can’t help but be of concern to carnivores. We so need to be returning our world to a more natural state if we want to sustain it. We will never be able to grow animals hydroponically - how on earth can we supply meat to over 8 billion human beings without destroying our world?
Search for regenerative agriculture, you can use land that can't be used for crops, it captures carbon in the soil(negative emissions) and produces one of the most nutrient dense foods available, beef.

Very nice discussion. Will search for more information on harmful affects of carbohydrates.

Thanks for watching Michele. Many other people would NOT think you are crazy for deciding to reduce sugar.
Really enjoyed this
Thank you for watching and commenting, Kerryn!
Ha ha. I can hear a South African accent even when it hardly exists. What amazing doctors UCT produced.
