Those tugs are small but wow are they powerful and so important to all areas of ship traffic. Growing up by the river Mersey we were taught a lot about them. Great work 👍
Respect to my colleague of Civitavecchia harbour. The ship was lucky becouse the first tug was ready for ferry in entrance, and also the other tugs were fast to come in assistance of the Brilliance...big work ;)
A clip like this does demonstrate that ships crew and port professionals are actually highly trained and do a sterling job in difficult conditions. Poor devils get the brunt of bad publicity but deserve praise for their skills too.
bigearedmouse17 are you stupid? You clearly know nothing about maritime procedure. The mainsail on a cruise ship can not be “taken down” it has to be cut down by hand and only the Admiral of the ship can do that with a special knife made of gold.
@WackoWakelinxx Why did a man throw himself overboard???!!!??? Wow. So the ship looked like it was tilting. Did things start falling to the ground? How long did it take for them to put the ship back?

John Morrison Titanic sank cause she hit an iceberg, Costa Concordia sank cause she hit rocks. This ships are very safe at seas. Stop talk about stuff you dont know Anything about, get facts first, then talk.
@@NYlocked It is a disaster waiting to happen. These latest cruisers are simply too tall and large. They stick out 70m above sea level. Luckily they are not economically viable anymore.
i was on the brilliance last year in october and we sailed into a massive storm/rain cloud in the sea. it was like hitting a wall of water. it was quite cool, it was raining really heavily but it was still cool. pity i get sea sick lol.
I dont know why a man threw himself overboard but it was a scary night! lol we lost quite a few sunbeds too and it was over within a few minutes but such a scary momment! we were eating our lovely dinner :P
This was such a frightening momment for me and my family as it was our very first cruise. We were eating at the time! This was one amazing but scary cruise! It didnt make it any better when a man threw himself overboard! SCARYYYYYYYYYYYYY :S
When ships are docked their engines are usually not on. While this emergency was occurring, they have to restart up major generators and engines for immediate power. The tugs we’re luckily their to control the ship & help guide her back to position once her engines were online
Cruise ships are dangerous, floating (or not floating) germy Petri dishes! The shrimp at the endless buffet (barge) alone is enough to kill you! And that’s after you pay for a closet sized room. Not for me! 😜
NO they're not! . But I think these ships are quite safe , unfortunately, because I don't like the idea of floating towns on the sea. I prefer my little 6m yacht Cygnet, in which I sailed solo in the Med earlier the same year, and followed a storm at 7 am from Porto Ercole all day . I sailed past these giant ships in Civitavecchia at 5pm, after a very rough day.
@@alankenworthy9722 sounds like fun. I made it onto the Iselmeer / IJsselmeer in Holland on a 3 master at windforce 10, outside it was ok but down under I had to leave.
Stellar work by the tug crews.
Thank you youtube for recommending this, being very much into cruising!

Love these clips. brilliant work by the Tugs
I was on the Brilliance that day when this video was made. After all these years I still remember it. We were lucky I guess 😊😊😊
Great footage, hopefully there was good control of the gangway when the ship moved from the pier.I wonder how the moored the royal vessel minus lines.
It’s funny how I got this in my recommendation... and I live in Civitavecchia lmao

What a fantastic video - You Tube at it's best! Hope it is not as windy as that in August as we are sailing around the Med on her!
When a ship breaks its moorings it is at the mercy of the elements
Not exactly. Captain has to order mooring tugs in time, some time shipowner doesn't like spend money
Wow very impressive work by the tugboats.
"E qual via scegliete? La piu breve. Civitavecchia? Si."
That's a nightmare. I couldn't imagine being on the ship while it's swaying on it's side in a storm. Scary.
Wow that is something else !!
Should have taken down the main sail prior to the storm arriving ?

Lol what main sail, it’s a power boat not a sail boat
The THREE tugs did a great time controlling her, contrary to you comment .....
I was on this when it happened, this video doesn't really show how bad it felt on board, honestly thought the ship was going to tip over or something!

These super tall cruisers are unsafe. How can they be controlled out on the sea during a storm and heavy swell?
