Just thought I'd let you know that this video was shot at the end of October BEFORE we started growing facial hair for Movember. Don't panic - the November video shoot will be much hairier!
For anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of playing one of these: this is not a parlour guitar! I switched to this guitar while trying out a parlour at Andertons and the amount of depth, power and clarity that came from this thing was genuinely jaw-dropping in comparison.
Thanks for this vid! Just got the GS Mini-e KOA Limited edition, it sounds absolutely stunning. Although its a scaled down guitar, the tone is still there and its actually pretty loud too! And with such simple pickup system, it actually sounds pretty darn good live even when the knobs on the guitar is all flat and the PA is all flat too! I personally like the Koa version more as it actually is brighter and more articulate, at least to me.
just got my Taylor GS mini-e Rosewood today and i can honestly say how much it surprised me in tone volume and playability! For someone fairly small like me this is the perfect acoustic guitar! so happy with it
Just tried a GS Mini at my local shop, among many others. Of the dozen or so I noodled on in the $1000-and-under category, this is the one I tried twice, then tried the mahogany top version as well. I really like this one! The fit is great, action was great, and the tone was rich. Loved it.
I have a LE Taylor 412ce and a Vintage Martin D18 and I use my Mini when I upload most of my videos to RUclips. I love the smaller scale and yet it has a real big sound. And since they now come with the Expression system electronics in them, that's a big plus. I wasn't happy with ES Go clip-in pickup. Nice demonstration guys.
I'm brand new to guitars, but after some advice from friends and such, I just ordered myself a Taylor GS Mini (Spruce) .. I can't wait to try it out and progress from this.
Captain. You got to get a blues cd out dood. Do a duet with Rob or something but that blue jam in this vid was awesome. You're bluer than a tribe of Smurfs. In a colour and music style sense that is.
I know the song at the beginning of the video was supposed to be a joke, but it was still SO BEAUTIFUL to me. Rob has an AMAZING voice. I sometimes come back to this video just to listen to that song. Can someone suggest me some songs that are similar in style/genre/vocals? Thanks in advance!
Thanks you guys, for another great demo! Like someone else here said, even though the GTA song was supposed to be a joke, I loved the chord progression & your performance. (I just ignored the lyrics! lol) Also agree you should do more acoustic stuff. Love everything you do...really appreciate that you take the time to give really thorough, unbiased reviews. I'm planning on getting a GS Mini soon...the mahogany top version...I definitely feel it sounds fuller & deeper...but you can't go wrong with any of them! Thanks again! Janine
Beautiful guitars. I love the choice of different woods for the back and sides on the "e" models. Don't like the piezo pickups much though. I installed a K&K Pure Mini pickup on my GS Mini and love the rich sound it produces.
I went down to the guitar store with a friend of mine who is quite small and has small hands. She ended up with one of these GS mini's. We played about 1/3 of the acoustics in the place and we both agree it really sounded the best for her budget ($500). Now I play it when we are together. Something that wasn't mentioned is that this guitar fits in the overhead bin on airplanes. Also the shorter scale means less string tension, so easier bends and a bit easier on beginning players fingers.
You can’t beat the price of the GS Mini, it sounds great for what it is. They’re durable too, so if you’re looking for an acoustic you can take into the woods with you and not have to worry about this guitar is a good option.
I think what every guitarist needs (this includes me) is a Guitarist Friend, for the purposes of bouncing musicalness back and forth. Captain's playing is through the feckin ROOF these days and I have no doubt it's because he can learn from any number of wicked musicians at any time. Gotta have some Musician Bros. Musibros. Nah that doesn't work.
Hey Chappers, Chapman should definitely do a Phil X signature ML-2 with his signature P90 (Invented by Joe Ninety) double cut maybe? Just a really good thought
The stone pick bit was interesting. I've played around with some stone picks, and they are pretty bright, and give an somewhat annoying "click" against the string as you play (though you can learn to minimize it). They sure are purty though. My favorite natural material has been the buffalo horn (clayton exotics picks). They feel good, and yield a pretty smooth, even tone. The GS mini's are pretty decent guitars. I've been looking at parlor models, and the Taylors are in the running, though Washburn has some pretty nice parlors, including the WP11-SNS (cedar top), which churns out some great tones for about $300.

truly fabulous guitar, 25 years of playing and never really found an acoustic that i felt totally at home with......until friday. Took my 6 year old to buy his first guitar and walked away with a Taylor GS Mini-e as well.! Ooops.!! happy days and a great review-i give her a 9 1/2 as i don't have a shop with outrageously expensive guitars to compare it too.....unless you'd like to send me one.??
Tried one the other day. Right out of the box it was crap. Horrible buzzing, action, difficult to play and I found some QC issues on frets. Not impressed with Taylor QC. It sounded alright though, just really tinny and had no bottom end or resonance.
***** Well, the binding is only aesthetics, so if you don't mind it then it's not a big deal. Personally, I think the mahogany gs mini sounds better. I would recommend trying out both. The tone is quite amazing for a small body. Very loud. In good acoustic rooms, it sounds amazing.
Recently bought one of these, I have small hands (being a hobbit), the sound is to die for on something so small.Through my AS50-D it jumps up to full 'ballsey' don't mess with me, tone and resonance. Highly recommended, but that's just my opinion, I am not affiliated in any way to the brand or the retailers.....nuff said.
I heard that they have an issue where the bridge raises up after about a year. I'm not sure how well documented it is, but it has turned me off a bit to getting one.
I want a guitar with a cutaway, not a GS mini with a cutaway. Should have written my comment differently. I just like being able to reach the high frets easier.
Rob - thanks for video. I’m gonna get one but can’t decide on which top; spruce or mahogany. I’m just starting and guess will focus on mainly rock chord strumming with a bit of blues/finger picking. So here’s the impossible question - If could only choose one which would it be? Spruce or Mahogany?
Great review. I took your advice and purchased my daughter the mahogany, no electric option for her birthday last year. Well worth the investment as she plays it every day and has no desire for anything else at this stage. The size is perfect for her at twelve. No compromise on the quality or sound and she should have this for years to come so again well worth my investment of $800AU. 🍻
Hi guys, great vid! You talk a little bit about the inadequacies of using just the guitar's native pickup system, just wondering what you think (hint: maybe do a review) of guitars with a blended pickup/mic system as standard equipment. A pickup such as the Maton APMic or more recently the AP5-Pro...
Played one the other day wanting to purchase, but the action on every one they had in stock was so high it was unplayable. Is this common? Hate to buy a guitar just to shave the bridge and nut to get it right.
Hello I am writing to you from Chile, and it is for a technical consultation. I see you have the taylor GS mini. I bought the same guitar a while ago, and I could not get the benefit it deserves. I'm not convinced the ES system that comes from factory. The question is, how do you equalize the GS. As for the volume, sharp and low? And you use some floor Pream, or direct box to raise more signal or something like that. I would appreciate the response to this message.
I have EXTREME problems with Feedback when I use this guitar live!! Its impossible to play without closing the Soundhole, and I even when I put a rubber plug I still have problems. It's such a beautiful looking and sounding guitar but I'm unable to plug it in, seriously. Please, can someone help me? I don't know what to do, I tried it in a few gigs now, and I never was able to play, due to the feeddback...
So many reasons but also so easy to fix. If you are still having problems email me davelindseyuk@yahoo.co.uk so we can go through your set up properly.
lol love the gta song I just bought a taylor gs mini today nice little guitar but for the life of me i cant get the e6 string to stop buzzing no matter if i pick or strum . I took it back to the shop and they replaced it but this one is not any better any idea's guy's ?
Asher Priddy I use a pair of these, one with a mahogany top with factory electronics (expression est) and a spruce top that I had a K&K installed in. They are all I use.......
Its great mate, I use a Martin X series and the GS mini, but most of the time the taylor. Its a great size to travel with, very comfortable neck and an amazing bright sound to it. Great for gigs and mostly anything mate.
hey I dont know whether to get a taylor big baby, martin dreadnought junior or after watching this video the gs mini, my main kind of music is worship music(christian songs). would like for an opinion. thanks
i have a Epiphone hummbingbird, solid top spruce...so similar gs mini but full size..so my question is " normal epiphone solid top or a little TAYLOR( this name is strong haha) solid top to be my "first guitar" ? i used to play at church. what do u think ?
I've been shopping around for a new acoustic and learned not to get too stuck on one brand. I played several really sweet sounding axes with brand names I'd never even heard of before. Teton and Norman are the two I'm deciding on right now. In fact I may end up with both of them because they were each under $500. Point is that if you're careful about it you don't have to spend a lot to get a really nice sounding guitar.
mhia4 i already have the epiphone but i'm looking for a best guitar to record...in brazil is really hard cuz our money is really cheap, the dollar is costing almost 3 reais and we have A LOT OF TAXs, with the taxes the dollar get almost 10 reais *dilma is killing us ¬¬ " i'm thinking about to sell my epiphone and buy dollars and give it to my friend to buy a acoustic in USA without any test that' s why i'm looking for some cheap taylor
Icaro Moreira That's hard man. Sorry to hear it. I do hear that Taylors are great for recording. It's just that the low end or cheap Taylors and Martins were still in the $500 to $1000 range and other guitars in that range sounded much better to me. Now when you get into the $3000 and up range Taylors are some of the sweetest sounding things I've ever heard. But if you're on a budget, like most of us, keep an open mind.
That song at the beginning is why I love you two immensely.
Just thought I'd let you know that this video was shot at the end of October BEFORE we started growing facial hair for Movember. Don't panic - the November video shoot will be much hairier!
I almost asked about it in the main comments lol
The song at the beginning keeps me coming back to this video ever since it forst came out.
For anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of playing one of these: this is not a parlour guitar! I switched to this guitar while trying out a parlour at Andertons and the amount of depth, power and clarity that came from this thing was genuinely jaw-dropping in comparison.
i have one myself and it's one of the best acoustic guitars I've ever played.
Totally agree, especially the koa version
The faces being pulled if you pause it at 1:12 following the line "she said fifty bucks gets you anything" are absolutely perfect.
Thanks for this vid!

I'm getting the Rosewood Taylor GS Mini E. I can't wait!!!!
GTA song is amazing :L Plus GS mini's are amazing! Played one at the taylor road show. It was beautiful.

i dont even play guitar that much anymore but i still watch these guys all the time!! haha god i love gta!
Captain's blues is really progressing, Sounding amazing Cap'n!
Captains falsetto made my day.
Does anyone else thing rob and captain playing acoustic together at the beginning is the most amazing sounding thing they've heard?
no.
Marc Piechowicz funny geazer!
Syed Mahmood Dorje.. lol
he wrote it about grand theft auto
Oisin McPhillips no andertons got brokd into grand theft acoustic!
i liked it
Genres -Acoustic rock, folk rock .

I think it'd be great to see more acoustic stuff in your videos, just really like the acoustic videos
This needs to be a real song... Like its legit one of my favorite songs and I keep having to go to this video to listen to it😂
It's a wicked good sounding little guitar!
One of my students has this guitar. Lovely sound and the small size is fun.
This is actually the only Taylor guitar I've ever enjoyed. They're great fun.
I have this guitar it's great a lot of fun and love the size took it on vacation over the summer.
That jam session was great!
You can’t beat the price of the GS Mini, it sounds great for what it is. They’re durable too, so if you’re looking for an acoustic you can take into the woods with you and not have to worry about this guitar is a good option.
Cool! I just got this guitar, pretty good so far. And I love love love GTA too! :-)
I shimmed and raised the bridge, nut, tuned it to open D and now use it as a slide guitar.
LOVE IT!! JUST FINISHED WATCHING MORE PLEASE!!!!!
Musibros. i'd really like sort of an EP of chappers and captain doing coffee house music. smooth acoustic guitars and stuff!
Seven years later I stumble on this video because I'm looking for a smaller guitar than my giant dreadnought. These guys have aged well.
When is GTA going to be on Itunes?
never
Nicely done chaps!
That size guitar really is great. If you play that size then you will feel like all acoustics should be that size.
Now available with koa and other combos..it’s shocking how powerful these are for their size, not just loud, but balanced and shimmery sounding..!
Damn, that was a beautiful thing!
What i learnd from this? Softer guitar pics for acoustic and mic up guitar for live sounds the best!
The opening song made me smile! lol GTA. Rock on Chapppers and The Cap'n.
Chappers you should do more acoustic sets you got a cool voice man, and Captain, well, you just a blues god. Love these little guitars!
Hey Chappers, Chapman should definitely do a Phil X signature ML-2 with his signature P90 (Invented by Joe Ninety) double cut maybe? Just a really good thought
You both could easily play on the next Clapton Crossroads show, amazing tunes
You guys are great! More acoustic videos please! Martin acoustics! :)
I've got an 814ce model and the expression system is phenomenal haha :) really love the Taylor expression system
You guys need to do more acoustic videos, fucking amazing guitar
once I save up enough ruples after new tires and a new MBox and Mic this is my Acoustic...price is manageable and im not getting a soggy acoustic...I love my stad strat, got a 72 reissue tele, working on my 98 Ibanez to give it some growl...but ive never had a "nice" acoustic...you sold me guys.
Now I'm sure I made a comment on this way back when it can out 2 years ago, but f*©k it lol.
That blues jam in the middle was amazing. Just Captain I Chappers pickin some wood old school style. This really had some fantastic playing from both, great job guys. Awesome vid
at 6:37 Rob hands over a different pick that sounded a lot warmer for strumming. Anyone know the brand or kind of pick that was???
hey its not with the brand but with the flexibility of the pick....these guys mostly play electric and electric strings need harder picks so acoustic needs more flexible picks and thats why rob handed him a pick that was warmer in tone.....so just get a flexible pick
Lee was using a stone pick which was a bit too harsh so Rob gave him a plastic one
ur comment makes me realise i over explained that *palmface*
david ruhinda Nah man...You were all good.

found a loving girl
and ran her over
she looked at me the wrong way
she was playin’ with my emotions
and I was playing’ GTA.
GTA x2
Standing there in a car park
She said, “50 bucks buys you anything.”
“50 bucks? I can’t say no
Wish I could take you home, instead,
of just a little ways down the road.”
GTA x2
(first melody)
She leans in and asks, “to go somewhere quiet,
So we can avoid any prying eyes.”
As I drove her, where no soul would find us.
I worked out a plan in mind
could our chance encounter
keep me feeling completely alive? In,
GTA x2
The car comes to rest, play time’s over,
But I just can not stand to see her go.
So I’ll pull my car, right up behind her.
Press my foot to the floor
watch her fly, tumble and fall
then with no remorse from me at all
that girl I once knew so well,
falls to the dark road in her shoes she once used as a vail.
GTA x2
Now her remnants are scattered ‘round her
I collect my lovers refund from the ground.
and as I drive away,
take comfort for certain:
Another car-park queen is on that same co-orner
time and time again… just waiting to be found.
GTA, they’re all the same,
there’s someone who’s the same in every way.
Wait another, Wait another day,
In one day we’ll all be OK.

truly fabulous guitar, 25 years of playing and never really found an acoustic

Those front dread locks are holding on for dear life.. :)
Captain, you have a pretty good singing voice :) you're a blues man from your fingers to your vocal chords haha
Best intro ever.
Rob, Nice singing!
I have to learn that song!
Can someone explain the part at 6:55 with the picks? I own a gs mini, so it would be useful to get a better pick. Thanks
***** Don't worry! At least now I know :P
Can anyone please tell me what kind of condenser microphone Capt. Lee is using in this video?
Excellent video! Love to hear The Captain and Chappers jamming acoustic!
What is one of these Taylor GS minis compared to a Faith Mercury parlour BNC?
first time I hear the captain sing!!! nice hehe
Hi guys, what (tonewise) is the difference between the sepele and rosewood version?
Thanks
Jules from belgium
That is deadly love it 👌
You guys should try and get in some Matons... they're amazing
Shame about the stock at Andertons. Went down today to try and get either a GS Mini or a Baby and they didn't have either in stock.
How is the guitar when plugged in with the ES go pickup, anyone? Would like the option of using it to gig as i love the taylor's playability
Is The Walnut version of GS mini-e with ES-2 still available??
How can I put guitar strap on it as the bottom is a plug ?
I want one of these so bad, just wish it had a cutaway.
get one. you dont need a cutaway lol. the Sounds that come from these instruments are TOP TOP class
I heard that they have an issue where the bridge raises up after about a year. I'm not sure how well documented it is, but it has turned me off a bit to getting one.
A cutaway would be stupid on the GS . Why would anyone even say that ? I love my GS mini
I want a guitar with a cutaway, not a GS mini with a cutaway. Should have written my comment differently. I just like being able to reach the high frets easier.
sorry i understand now . Im thinking of getting a Taylor 114 or 214 . with a cutaway . But really the 214 is not much better , Just more money .
More acoustic demos please!
Rob and Lee should with no doubt form a band or duo
they're amazing hahhaha
Great review. I took your advice and purchased my daughter the mahogany, no electric option for her birthday last year. Well worth the investment as she plays it every day and has no desire for anything else at this stage. The size is perfect for her at twelve. No compromise on the quality or sound and she should have this for years to come so again well worth my investment of $800AU.
🍻
Got one, spring limited with maple, put a l.r. baggs dual source inside, really great guitar

Will you ever review a full size acoustic Taylor?
The Cap in the Monkey Lords Lair with some acoustic goodness.
Hello
I am writing to you from Chile, and it is for a technical consultation.
I would appreciate the response to this message.
tenacious D would be proud of you guys :)
You guys are great
I love this video !
A pretty nice place to record at chappers home , besides the anderton room:)
I would say John Mayer brought the small bodied acoustic to the mainstream.
Guy gives credit to JM? I hit the like button!
not really, they been making small body acoustic guitars for years.
That's Ed Sheeran's job.
GS Minis and the like are quite smaller than anything John has played
sorry for the disrespect. Rob... capitalization is proper. Much respect, love your videos above all!
would be nice to see you guys do some martin guitars :D
beautiful

there is a phase reversal switch inside the guitar. it's by the red light mentioned in this video. Try switching that.

"SMACK"
would you guys do a review of the Ibanez semihollow and hollow body guitars?
How many Orange amplifiers do you need Rob Chapman really!
He gets sent them the lucky fella!
Is this little guitar good for gigging, any players have experience using it live? Thinking about picking one up.
+Josh Elias does it have a built in pickup??
+mavilon sem yes
hey I dont know whether to get a taylor big baby, martin dreadnought junior or after watching this video the gs mini, my main kind of music is worship music(christian songs). would like for an opinion. thanks
You can try Amazon
you should go to a music store and try them all out. don't worry about other people's opinions, think what will inspire you to play the most :)
i have a Epiphone hummbingbird, solid top spruce...so similar gs mini but full size..so my question is " normal epiphone solid top or a little TAYLOR( this name is strong haha) solid top to be my "first guitar" ? i used to play at church. what do u think ?
But if you're on a budget, like most of us, keep an open mind.
thinking abou to buy a acoustic only when i travel to usa...here...to buy one of this guitars you must to be very very rich :/
