fall damage itself is relatively simple if slugcat impacts solid geometry while going downwards and moving faster than 120 tiles/s (most slugcats) or 160 tiles/s (gourmand), they die. otherwise, if they impact solid geometry while moving at a somewhat fast speed (70? tiles/s (most) or 80? tiles/s (gourmand)), then they get stunned for 1 - 3.5 seconds as for why slugcat accelerates to towards the ground at mach 5 when you reverse while climbing up a ledge, i have no freaking clue lmao
It's a movement tech called crawl turn fast fall that gives the player a lot of downward momentum, you can do it by turning around during ledge climb animation or by (starting in a crouch position and slugcat's back turned from a ledge) holding backward and then holding up briefly 2 frames later, it's in the movement doc
Speaking about the fast fall tech got me thinking, is the Gourmand's slam damage based on the velocity or height of the fall? I remember pulling it out against a lizard once but couldn't really tell the difference since the unit usually flattens anything below him regardless.
@@mcawesome9705 It's definitely just based off velocity, because there have been several times where a lizard has grabbed me, proceeded to spin faster than a jet engine, and then slammed my head against a wall so incredibly hard that I just died in it's mouth as the gong sounds.
sigma summed up my opinion on spearmaster perfectly he starts to shine when you are experianced and the biggest example is fighting lizards when you dont know how to throat stab spearmaster sucks but when you do he is amazing i didnt like him on my first playthrough but now he is an S tier slugcat

I think it's based off of velocity since when jetfish ram you they will sometimes just die

however, the stun is (partly) based on velocity.
