I think the common theory is that the game takes place in the Flower kingdom which was mentioned in the Mario Anime movie way back. Indicators are: -A level being called "welcome to the flower kingdom" which could also just be world 1 but it also may be an introduction to the whole new world. -That worm character you seem for example hanging on Luigi on the official cover who also can be seen throughout the trailer. That guy being the prince of Flower kingdom who looked similar in his transformed form, but then got transformed back at the end of the Movie. I think because of these indicators its more assumable that its going to take place in the flower kingdom
