Yeah I started too late but I am always curious as to how people reach GM while also juggling their normal lives and profession. Sometimes it feels like studying chess is like being in undergrad or grad school again
9:16 You should get rid of the mindset that your opponents will resign in such positions, no one will resign with equal material unless there is a zugzwang or a forced mate
Stjepan is probably used to looking at GM games where they do sometimes resign when their position is just bad. Anyway, even if at his level it isn't going to happen, how is it bad for him to think in the moment that it might, especially when he wouldn't himself and obviously knows the reality? Its seems like a gratuitous criticism, and Stjepan already gets enough from his fans when it's justified. BTW, players far below GM level also resign when a piece is trapped.
@@KnightToRemember I've seen several games where a GM has resigned and I had no clue why. Think of 400 players online who don't resign a queen down with an exposed king. I'd resign, and I don't doubt you would. So it depends on who's playing, and what they know. Maybe a GM would resign with Stjepan's opponent's position if he/she was playing another GM. What I know is I can't judge. I like your handle, BTW. :-)
@@KnightToRemember I don't agree. I know the difference between having a winning position and actually winning, all too miserably well. So does Stjepan, and he has since long ago.
Keep your head up bro. This things happen. Im similar rating with you and had such experience many times. You are not the first, and not the last person to throw a completely winning game. Good luck for next games
Don’t be upset, Stjepan. It was indeed a very high quality game. Every one of us crumble under the time pressure. Even the best ones (except for Magnus, maybe). So definitely, one of your best. Btw, one of the best doesn’t necessarily have to say win. Sometimes, it is just like this!
Why is the title "may be the best game I ever played"? You definitely played better games. As for the game, tactical complications are always tough to deal with, my biggest weakness as well. I might have a +3 position after strategically outplaying my opponent, then they create chaos on the board in a losing position and I often miss something and don't convert. Again, you said at 9:00 you wouldn't be surprised to see your opponent resign here... ALL THE PIECES are still on the board Stjepan!!! :D anything could happen as proved by the rest of the game.
GMs disagree about best games. It's partly a matter of taste. Anyway, Stjepan would never resign in a position like his opponent had, so he knows how things really are. He was just a little too high on his position, like most of us get sometimes, at every level.
That was a very impressive first half of the game, but it can't be the best game if you don't bring home the point. Ultimately the result is what matters. In a moral sense, yes it's great that you are dominating a strong player, and there will be huge jumps once you consistently finish the chances, but there's no award for dribbling past the whole team and then hitting the crossbar.
Nobody (especially in a team event!) would ever resign in that position. As shown in the game, there were many complications. Learning to convert positions is something that many club level players struggle with. I would recommend to stop that mindset of resigning early and just play out every position (unless you don’t see any good move). Magnus wins ‘equal’ endgames all the time against top level competition. Hikaru wins losing positions all the time.
Great video. Bit hasty at the preparation part, but that's the first one, right? Very impressive overall. looking forward to the next games. I learned alot about emotions reading Letting go by David R Hawkins. You mention your emotions sometimes take over.
Sir, He could have won more games, as instead of retreating, if he takes (a deep breath), one look at what attacking moves are available [this is an area he needs to seriously strengthen] Though this games requires a very intense concentration with so many minor pieces attacking the king ! Always he brings lot of joy to game of chess 🎉
Hey Stjepan. Thanks for another great video! I was wondering how you use your time to study chess? Do you work and study chess besides? How does that fit in your schedule? Thanks! Adam
There seems to be a theme where your positional evaluations are very good but then the engine points out a tactic four or five moves deep that you missed. I suppose that's just the way things go. I want to be the kind of player who can do both...
I'm an android man and have to recommend a Pixel, Pro models have better cameras almost on par with Apple. Which I hate to say, probably has the best camera. Samsungs are really nice too. Either one of those three and you will not go wrong camera wise.
33...Kf8 looks like the most natural defensive move ( writing this while watching the video, before you checked with the engine).I wonder if engine will find a downside to that move
There wasn't enough about your prep to be interesting, and it wasn't engaging, so IMO it would be better to leave it out. Otherwise, I like how you're mixing things up and I enjoyed the video.
Yoooo Stjepan in his vlogging era!! I love it dude!

@@bluefin.64 ok if a piece is trapped it’s an exception I didn’t think of, but still I can’t imagine any GM that would resign at 9:16
@@bluefin.64 if you think your opponent will resign you have already won the game in your mind, this is a dangerous mindset to have during the game

Holy the nasty engine line was insane
Yeah.
which one 😭
Really grateful for you showing how you get ready for the game
“ I wouldn’t be surprised if my opponent resigned” lol slow down there turbo
Loving the time stamps! Super excited to see the game!
Best video I’ve seen in years, keep up this style!
Thanks! Will try to but it won't always be possible to do long prep during tournaments.

This was a beautiful game with crazy tactics all over the board.
0:18 Hey Stjepan, the 90’s called, they want their camera back 😂 Seriously though, super happy for you, you seem in good spirits and motivated!
Very instructive on you controlling your emotion!
Yooo i love this format❤️
Great game and analysis. Keep it up

That engine line from 23:52 onwards was absolutely brutal🧐😳😱
I'm trying to figure it out over a board now. My god who would ever see all that.
Keep the games coming !
Love the edit of this video - nicely done 😉
Shame about the draw in the end, but you played some lovely lines.

My phone camera sucks:D Sorry about that. Any recommendations for an affordable phone with a good camera?
Honestly the video quality doesn’t matter all that much, as long as the audio is good. And the audio seems pretty good here

Samsung S models, 20+. Anything else they make has trash cameras.
What's your budget?
@ZmajevKralj što jeftinije. I have no idea how much phones cost. I bought the last one 5 years ago:D

Hej Stjepan. Isn't Qxd5 instead of Ba7 at move 40 just winning? This two connected past pawns seems to be too strong.. anyway, nice game!
Just hop on lichess and practice your mate in 13 puzzles
Yeah, just make sure to start with the easy ones.
after white plays Nc3 why can't QxB1? what am i missing?
Very nice!
Your joy and enthusiasm lately has been infectious! 2500 soon!
I almost cried myself😢
Why did you delete your previous repertoire? You can just add a new one
Is this your leap year day game?
Time pressure can be one's worst enemy. Maybe if you do a bit more tactical study to help your calculations?
Your suggestion is the most common one made here by far. Tactical vision is the foundation of good play, and Stjepan's fluctuates severely.
