    Chad is an absolute monster. Usually when I hear him he’s tearing crazy licks at hypersonic speed, so it’s really awesome to hear him lay back this hard on a downtempo swing.

    I mixed this for Chad, and it’s still one of my favorite solos that I’ve heard him play. There are a lot of great ones, but this one is so singable.

  • @lucagrieman3681

    I was at this gig. The stuff he played was life-changing. He ended with "On the Sunny Side of the Street" as an audience request, and some of the licks he played were...I have no words. Huge fan.

  • @natukashii1

    Beautiful! At 1'30 he quotes the same triplet run that the bass player just played- so he's still listening and responding even while soloing. ('Triplets from earlier' in the transcription). Thanks for sharing and transcribing.

  • @xxczerxx
    @xxczerxx Год назад +13

    Holy shit when people say a "developed tone", THIS is what that sounds like. A single note has SO much depth and nuance in his playing.
    This reminds me to play slow tunes/ballads, I'm always practicing burning tunes but that doesn't really help core sound imo

    I haven't transcribed a lot, but I am very familiar with theory and bebop language. When the captions in the music said things about language, what did that mean? Was it because he was outlining the chords particularly well, or were those well known jazz licks?

    • @remindme353
      @remindme353 Год назад +2

      Yeah I think ur assessment is right. I take having good language as meaning you can play at the go and not rely on familiar patterns or memorized phrases

    • @Jared-McCann-Sax
      @Jared-McCann-Sax Год назад +14

      When it says language it's referring to jazz "cliches" that are heard a lot in solos.

    It’s like he has no vocabulary. None of his licks sounded like something you would sing. Really pushing it. Slow notes don’t mean anything if they don’t represent a bigger picture. He’s not hearing these licks in his head at all. Just playing intervals that sound in harmony. Lame. 1/10 would not again.
