I have been praying in the spirit going on 2 weeks now and I can’t believe the changes I’ve experienced in such short amount of time. Inner peace, favor at work, sickness jumped off of me, and a boldness to pray for people out loud and preach the gospel like never before.
Please read His Word for yourself and don’t believe other believers and even pastors who say otherwise. Acts 1:8 says:
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
    Amen
There is no man on this planet who can tell me that tongues are not for today. This gift has changed my life. Glory to God.

      @kavikv.d.hexenholtz3474 6 лет назад

Let's take a look at Acts and the Pentecostal narrative for a minute.....
The common belief and assumption is that many language were spoken, after all, they're even listed out further in the narrative. But look closely at that list again…..what do you notice? It’s not a list of languages, is it? It’s a list of nations and territories. Is there any sort of relevance to these places referenced in the list? Well, yes indeed; upon closer inspection, we discover that they are specifically those lands and areas of the Jewish Diaspora (Cyprus and Syria are missing - more on this later). Both the Western and Eastern Diaspora are included which is significant, but we’ll get to this a bit later as well.
So what about the languages? Read the entire narrative again carefully. Did you notice anything? It may not be apparent at first, but it’s there. Not one place in the entire Pentecostal narrative is even one language ever referenced by name…not one. Further, nowhere in the entire narrative does it suggest or imply that communication was even a problem to begin with! This would seem to send up a few red flags if one were to postulate modern Pentecostal/Charismatic tongues for those of Acts.
So if communication was not the issue, what was the problem? “Other languages” were spoken - languages other than what?
First, the Pentecostal narrative, contrary to how many interpret it, does not describe xenoglossy, nor does it describe a miracle of hearing one’s own language when someone is speaking another (a phenomenon called “akolalia” by some).
Let’s turn to the languages. First, let’s begin with the obvious. Jews already in living Judea would have spoken Aramaic, though if from a larger city, a few possibly grew up with Greek. With respect to the Diaspora, to try and keep it brief and without several pages of explanation, Jews of the Western Diaspora spoke Greek as their native language; those of the Eastern Diaspora spoke Aramaic. Those of the Eastern Diaspora would have been familiar with the local languages of these places, but would not have spoken them as their first/primary language. In the Western Diaspora, all those lands had been Greek speaking for centuries.
The “other languages” referred to were simply Greek and Aramaic; the mother tongues (sic!) of those local Jews, as well as those of the Diaspora, visiting Jerusalem for Shavu’ot.
So, wait a second - why are they referred to as “other languages”? Other than what? The answer lies in an overlooked aspect of Judaism; ecclesiastical diglossia. The rules of ecclesiastical diglossia of the time demanded that teaching, evangelization, religious instruction, etc. such as what occurred at Pentecost be done in Hebrew (though Greek was slowly gaining influence as an acceptable alternative). The Jews gathered there expected to hear Hebrew, the culturally (and religiously) correct language to use in this situation and on this occasion (even though most would have not understood it) - instead they heard the disciples speaking in their native languages of Greek and Aramaic; both of which the disciples would have spoken. The result was amazement, wonder, astonishment and even ridicule at such an obvious breach of cultural “etiquette”. These men were Galileans after all; they should know better! Another often overlooked reason for the crowd’s amazement was that Galileans were looked at as sort of the uneducated ‘yokels”. Because of this anti-Galilean prejudice, some of the crowd may have been surprised to hear the disciples “proclaiming the mighty works of God” with such authority.
What we are witness to here is the breaking of a cultural barrier that was necessary in order to spread the message of Christianity to the world. Indeed, the real miracle of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost may simply have been to give the disciples the courage and spiritual strength to “spread the word” and to dispose of the cultural necessity to do so in one (or two) language(s) (i.e. observe strict adherence to ecclesiastical diglossia). Coupled with this is the allowing of non-Jews access to the Jewish God. Something hitherto virtually unheard of.
Let’s quickly get back to our list for a moment. Was there any significance to the ‘list of nations’ we find in the narrative? As we have seen, the list was obviously not included to represent or hint towards any sort of linguistic diversity; there was none.
So, if this list of nations does not represent linguistic diversity (i.e. a diversity of ‘tongues’), what was its purpose?
One of the reasons to include the list may have been to show that the Jews gathered in Jerusalem represented the Jewish Nation as a whole (Diaspora included), and as a result, may very well have also indicated that the first apostolic mission was meant for the Jewish Nation as a whole (Diaspora included).
But was there another reason for including the list? It seems hardly necessary to “spell out” what would have then been common knowledge (i.e. the specific lands of the Diaspora). It is particularly interesting to note that the list starts with Parthia, includes Judea but excludes Syria, and ends with Rome.
This seems then to allude to the notion that this list must have been included for some other reason entirely, but what reason?
The most prevalent school of thought by far is that the list was placed in the narrative for political reasons (with Syria purposely omitted, and the nations/territories listed in a specific order). It was put there to make a statement. Indeed, this list from Luke, as one writer puts it, “is anti-Roman political propaganda witch advocates kenotic politics at its finest.” There are several well written articles on the subject and I would encourage the reader to explore this further; the political reasons for the list's inclusion is quite interesting!
Pentecost - no modern concept of ‘tongues’, no xenoglossy, no akolalia, no language miracle needed here folks; simply Greek and Aramaic instead of the culturally correct and expected Hebrew. The miracle being a breaking through of established cultural barriers and making “God”, directly accessible to anyone, in any language. A concept which, as silly as it sounds today, was virtually unheard of at that time.

@@kavikv.d.hexenholtz3474 that is a logical hypothesis but I think it's true in part. I think that the disciples on the verge of apostleship were not speaking in any earth languages at all. they were speaking in an unknown tongue or the tongue of angels. the Jews from all of those nations heard with their own ears their own language and that is the miracle. they heard the voice of the spirit in their ears hearing the wonderful works of God. I know when the initial speaking in tongues occurs it is in the heavenly language and not one of man

There is no “tongue of angels” - that section of Paul’s letter is textbook grammatical hyperbole, no matter how you slice and dice it.
Jews were gathered from “the known world” , i.e. the Jewish Diaspora. If you were a Jew and lived in the Western Diaspora, your native language was Greek - same holds true for anyone form that area; Jew or non-Jew. Greek had for centuries replaced indigenous languages in that area through the process of Hellenization which had been going on since the time of Alexander. If you were a Jew from the Eastern Diaspora, it was a bit different. These were lands that were never Hellenized and each had its own language; however, if you were a Jew in the Eastern Diaspora, you may have spoken the local vernacular in various degrees of fluency, but the language of ‘home and hearth’, your ‘mother tongue‘, was Aramaic. Jews from all over the Diaspora, but really only two languages; Greek and Aramaic - apostles, being Hellenized Jews, spoke both. No miracle of “hearing” here. Nowhere in the entire narrative is even one language ever referenced by name. Nowhere in the narrative does it suggest that communication was ever an issue to begin with. The miracle was the sign to the Jews that (the Hebrew) God was now being made available to everyone, Jew and non-Jew alike, in any language (rather than the traditional language of Jewish teaching and Judaism in general - Hebrew)- a concept that prior to the Pentecost was unheard of.
The concept of the “initial speaking in tongues” will always come out as pure glossolalia; other than anecdotal stories which can never be substantiated, there are no concrete examples of glossolalia ever coming out as real, rational language. Indeed, there are no proven cases of xenoglossy that exist anywhere.
Mind you, I’m not doubting the “tongues experience” - as I’ve mentioned, glossolalia can be a powerful tool, but the speech itself is entirely self-created.

@@kavikv.d.hexenholtz3474 The "speaking in "tongues" ,and elsewere in the N.T., has been misunderstood. The original koine greek of the N.T. always translates the word " tongues" as " a language."The apostles and other believers present were all speaking in one spiritual language.Three times the men in the criwd said," How hear we them in our own languages."Any time, in scriptures, that something is repeated three times it is a comfirmation from God.The confirmation here is that the men were hearing in their languages and dialect but the apostles were not speaking them. Not only did they " Hear" in their native languages but the greek word is " dialektos".Which would be the equivalent of someone from the New Orleans hearing someone in Mexico, speaking not only in their language, but with the southern drawl of someone born where they were.Yes Hebrew, Greek, and Latin were spoken all over the civilized world. But those in the crowd " Heard" what was being said in the way people where they lived would say it.

@@ketermalkut7653 I will just take the first Bible reference that you pointed to prove that "devil hates people speaking in tongues".
Here's Romans 8:26-27, " Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God."
In the above verses, Paul speaks about "groanings which cannot be uttered". Speaking and groaning are not the same. groaning is not a language. The Cambridge English dictionary describes groaning as " a deep, long sound showing great pain or unhappiness: ". No Words; the idea is simply of communication beyond our ability to express. Paul goes on to say that God understands this groaning because it is according to the will of God.
Now, I don't see any word "devil" or "hate" or "tongues", in these verses. So how are you trying to prove that the devil hates speaking in tongues with these verses?

When the "gift of languages" was given, people from neighboring regions could hear, "the wonderful works of God" in their own native language. Today, what are the "languages" that are being spoken, and from what region do they "hail"?
