Plenty of people like to flaunt their supposed "wealth" (or, more like debt). You drive down the road and you see _so many huge pickup trucks_ and they are all speeding, driving well beyond the speed limit because "everybody does it!" ... yet the Bible says that disobeying God-ordained government laws is a sin. These pickup trucks are almost always spotless, and have plenty of modifications done to them not for practical use purposes, but just for show. All the stickers, and name brand mods on them, etc. They guzzle gas like crazy, and these trucks are obviously just for show and not used for actual work. People are so wasteful anymore. And then you got the people towing their expensive boats with these trucks, I remember when I once worked at a gas station, we'd see these people come in, and complain about gas prices and then they'd go out there and pump upwards of 40 gallons of gas for their huge oversized truck that they don't need, and maybe even for the boat too, that they don't need that is purely recreational use. I know some people fish with those boats, but for the price of that boat, the price of the truck to haul it, and all the fuel they're wasting, they could have easily had the money to feed themselves for many years. And when I bring things like this up, it's always "why do you care what people spend money on?" ... well, let's see. They're going into debt, which means they owe someone money, and that someone wants their money back, and these people in debt aren't able to keep up with all of their payments, and sometimes these people go bankrupt, which means they are just passing their debt off onto somebody else, and that someone else is going to write off that debt to someone else, and eventually the government is going to have to bail the banks out again, and where'd the government get that money from? We the working people, that's who. Also, some of these people wasting money also own businesses and when they start struggling to make ends meet, they start raising prices on the stuff they sell. And then there's people like me who are just trying to get a decent stable house and a decent stable vehicle to live a basic humble life. My job requires me to sleep during the day as I work overnights, and I've prayed about this before, and the Lord seems to want me to stay at the job I'm at. I spend quite a bit of money in fuel for my furnace in the winter, and it's unbearably hot during the summer here, and I need $13,000 to fix these problems which I am saving up for, little by little so that I can get better sleep and not have to spend anywhere near as much money in the winter. And also, my backup car is a RWD so it does not go well in the snow, and my main car which would go good in the snow needs a timing chain, which is about a $2,000 job. So I look at my $15,000 needed, and these things that I am wanting, I am wanting them so that I can be a better worker at my job, and then I look at other people going into debt hundreds of thousands of dollars, driving their shiny $100k+ lifted pickup trucks and I just roll my eyes. These people easily dump 10x the amount of money into vanity than I am saving up for ... I wouldn't call them _necessities_ per se, but I would say they are fairly important to continue living my life as it currently is. And I am not jealous of these people, I don't want their expensive toys. I wouldn't touch one of those trucks if it were offered to me. I just want a car that is going to serve me well in all seasons, a car that gets decent gas mileage, and a car that can haul some limited stuff. My main car, an SUV, does all of that... or would if it had the repairs it needs. But since being able to sleep is a higher priority, I'm trying to put the HVAC system in first. My point in all of this is, I find it disgusting how people waste so much money on their toys, when other people are struggling just to meet their basic needs to continue living their lives the way it is. I'm not bemoaning my predicaments, I'm happy with anything the Lord gives me, I am only using it as an example to explain why I hate seeing so much money wasted on vanity everywhere.
Makes me think of the industries that exist now. I recently finished highschool and know that I want to do a trade, but some trades will cease to be profitable very quickly in National emergency or disastrous situations. A lot of work nowadays is cosmetics and so those industries will probably be choked in a war scenario. Better to get something that will be in demand no matter what. Like farming or construction perhaps.
@@Bikeraq If you're going to take up a trade, I'd suggest a fix-it trade... like plumber, carpenter, etc. These pay very well because it's getting harder and harder to find people who will not only do the work, but actually do it with diligence. There are too many "tradesmen" out there who are only looking to make a quick buck and scam people. There's not enough honest tradesmen to go around, and infrastructure is failing. Being the person who can fix stuff when stuff is broken, would be quite a good place to be in. And you don't even really have to pick only ONE trade to learn, maybe do plumbing but also pick up some other skills, too. My dad was in the Army until he was in his late 20s and once he got out, he got a job at a window manufacturing plant, but he also took up a lot of skills... he was primarily a carpenter, but he also knew how to do electrical work, plumbing, he built two sheds, two barns, and a 2-story garage almost by himself, only getting help with certain parts that needed more than one person to do (such as pulling a framed wall up and/or a roof). He was very much the all-around DIY guy, and those types of people are going to be the people who are the most well-off when stuff starts breaking down. I myself, am sadly lacking these skills.. I just hope that if I am forced into these situations, I can remember what I saw dad doing, and learn how to do it myself. Messing with Electricity makes me nervous, but I figure that I can eventually get over that. I've already experimented with doing some stuff, and if you really try... you can learn it. I've been teaching myself cooking for example, and I'm getting better gradually.
