  • This is a simple video showing how to tune your Japanese Koto. I started learning the koto last year, and I thought since tuning the koto was quite a scary thing for me to learn at first, I would make a video to help those who would like to learn how to tune theirs with a digital tuner. My teacher is teaching me a way to tune the koto without a tuner. But I'm not so good at it, yet. So, until I learn her method, I'm posting this video for anyone who is needing a jump-start tuning their koto. I have big bulky camera, so thank you for your patience in the fact that my camera is shaky, and a tripod would be helpful. Thank you for watching.

Thank you. It sounds like you have a different kind of koto. I'll ask my teacher if she knows how to tune a 21 stringed koto. Do you happen to know what kind of koto it is, by chance?

Hey, I just talked to my teacher. It sounds like you have a more modern koto. So you can play the higher notes, and also have bass notes. Which is really cool. I can't really tell you how to tune it, only that half will probably be higher notes, and half lower notes. I'm sure someone on youtube, knows how your koto is turned. Good luck, and I wish I could be more help. I would like to hear how it sounds.
