  • Underground Worm Farms and my new vertical covers are working great so far!
I believe I solved two big garden problems at once. One with my worm farming in summer and another with this crazy heat and providing shade.
I can keep my compost worms cooler and protect plants from harsh sun rays.
This means more fresh food on my plate for free as it's all being fertilised by my worms moving in and out of the Subpods.
It's early days yet but from the looks of things it's going to be a more permanent fixture.
If you would like to start worm farming underground like me then there is a 10% discount code via my link.
Also available is 10% off all the Aussie Gardener products using my discount code.
These knee pads have been a game-changer so far and I plan to use them nearly every day!

You are a only few years older than me, looking good. it is proof that living and eating fresh healthy food really works to keep the body looking and functioning in the best possible way. Getting in the ocean every now and then obviously also helps with the spirit and mental wellbeing, most of all your fingers in the soil works like magic for the entire mind , body and soul. Happy gardening everyone from Queensland 💚🌴

It's definitely not naughty to grow out of season. It proves that diversity is the key and experiments are fun especially when you get unexpected results.

I know some I watch from the us put frozen water bottles in to the farms to cool them a little bit more and change the bottles a few times a day.
Some have said to put the bottles into ziplock bags before in the farm so the bottles can be taken out and straight back into the freezer. And then put another bottle in the bag and bag into the farm. May help ya out and get ya by.

It's good advice, I am moving a lot of my stock into my windrows and underground at the moment. I will keep a hanful of above ground systems for breeding mostly.

Good morning Marty and Shirley, and everyone else in this gardening community.
You could try using the thin air cell insulation to cover the worm bin lids. My worm bin has been going happily for about four years, it's in the same position and get s full sun blast for a couple of hours and the air cell insulation is working great.

It was 42oC here in Adelaide yesterday so I kept checking my worm farms and putting water through them. I’d learnt last year when we had a really hot day and a other of worms tried to escape the heat and poor darlings died😢

Hi Marty 😁 I’m using 70% off shade cloth over my worm farm at the mo, but have planted a Hardenbergia (Happy Wanderer) next to it so next year it will have a cooling, good looking leafy home🥰 also had a ant problem last week so have stood my worm farm In small buckets of water! Hey presto they are gone and I reckon it will prevent slugs too! 🙏🏼 Thanks for the videos 😊

G'day Jeff, it's good being in this age bracket, because it's taken all of us this long to know what we know through the years of experience we have gained in gardening. I'm here to help anyone that I can with what I have learnt over the years. For all of the younger people that think they have experience of a few years and they believe they know everything there is to know about gardening, which is good for the internet but it's not the years of hands on experience that we have. If they really listen and take notes then they can start off where we are now and they can easily skip all the bullshit crap we all did while learning and lots of us still do stupid shit in the garden, it's called learning, and even though we have many years under our belts we are still learning every day. It makes me feel sad that they don't really want to learn from experienced people like us because their attitudes are different to how we were brought up. In our day, we were taught to respect our elders. But the young generation don't seem to give a fuck about us older generation. That is until they run into us on a dark night. Happy gardening everyone all around Australia green love 💚🌴🙏

Mate, if they grow they aren't out of season. I grow lettuce year-round. In the hot months, they are under tree shade. Same with Chard.
If that's naughty I guess Santa might not visit next Christmas😊 I haven't worked out how to stop kale bolting in the hot months yet though.
Are you alright Marty? You sound a bit rough in this video. Maybe just a bit early for you. Cheers!
