Your mom is becoming the star of your video. Its always a delight when she appears in a video. The fish cakes look yummy. The cod fish here where i live (Philadelphia PA) is almost as expensive as salmon. And salmon is sky high. If you are eating a fish dinner here in Philadelphia PA you are eating a super expensive meal. Its disgraceful what fish prices are. I was born and raised in Massachusetts . When i was little, fish was plentiful and cheap. We had haddock dinners all the time. Haddock is $10 to $12 lb now.
That's crazy. As the cost of living continues to rise, everyone who's connected to the industry as to get paid more in order to live. It's crazy because one day, fish and meats will be for the super rich.
How very true.
Looks delicious. Mom is a national treasure of culinary knowledge.
Definitely
I do like how natural and calm they are without any BS.
Your Mom, the Producer, is funny! Her voice is like my late Aunt Helen's, and Auntie Helen was funny too. Love the fish cake recipe w. salt pork. It adds a richness to the taste.
My Mom's a real character, she's definitely the entertainer of the family! Thanks for watching!
Holy they look yummy , tell your mom she’s beautiful and don’t be shy of the camera! My favourite video so far !
Thank you, I will send her your comment. I know she will appreciate it very much.
Thanks for putting this one on here
Mom always knows best ❤❤😊
Mother is good negotiator I see, the wife and I had a good laugh at that 60 40 , then here criticism on the potatoes not peeled. Awesome to see her there coaching along and participating absolutely awesome. You have a great cooking channel my buddy, great quality of video as well as the quality of oroduct in your video. We really enjoy them , excelt makes me hungry lol. Have a great week my buddy
Much appreciated. Mom watches some reels, and she knows what works and what doesn't. From a lady of her generation, it's amazing that she has taken on this role in helping create content. She also knows I'm in this for life, and it's not just a pastime. The fact that she's willing to appear in videos still has me shocked, but again, she knows the connection between family is what a lot of people want to see in videos. Mom is constantly bringing up ideas for future videos and even trips on how to produce them. She will definitely get her cut in the future....not 60/40, haha, but she will definitely have a major benefit from the channel.
This is something I haven't had in depth ades! When I was a kid we would make this every week. Cod cakes and crispy pork scraps can't be beat! A real maritime feast
We were the same, we were able to fish cod whenever we wanted too so we always had our winter supply. Fish was a main part of our diet back then, and so it should still be but it's difficult with the government restrictions here in Newfoundland. Fall was always the best time for cod fishing, summer time the bays are full with mackerel, caplin, squid, etc so the cod bellies are full. This is why the food fishery is open here in Newfoundland on the weekends and a couple weekends in the fall. It purposely set up this way to land less cod.
I make fish cakes often but your way is so much easier. I can't wait to try it. Thank you mom for sharing your recipes with your son so he can share with us.. I love your videos. Happy Cooking😊❤
Thank you so much. Most of our recipes from growing up were very simple, with very few ingredients. Sometimes, they make the best meals when it's very basic and simple. Try moms bake beans. They are the best, but I think I said she soaks them overnight in the video, but she doesn't. She boils them. That's how her mother did it, and that's how mom does it.
Love this channel. Brings back memories of my Mom making these
There's always meals our mothers made that no one could ever make any better.
Your Mom…just put a little sugar in it. I love it. Maybe that’s what been missing from my cooking. ❤️🇨🇦
On the French side of the island we make fish cakes with dry cod, pork with the rind, onions, mashed potatoes and fish. We don’t use flour…. Pan fry them. Yummy
Mom and her mother always used dried cod, too. Now we use corn cod fish, no soaking involved, it's perfectly salted, just boil and eat. With the dry, they would soak the fish, but with the corn fish, it's much easier. As always, we look for the easiest way out haha
I always add some Mt Scio Farms summer savoury to mine.....try it some time. They are still the best
Love your vids. Love fish cakes. These look great! Loved seeing your mom ducking the camera like she’s in the witness protection program! 😆❤️
Last great fish cakes I had were some delicious Walleye cakes at the Minnesota State Fair 🥳✨✨✨
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel. Very much appreciated. I have a couple upcoming videos where Mom is doing most of the cooking. It should be good videos to watch.
Excellent video. Mom knows how to do it!
You got that right!
Keep the videos coming……… love them all
Thank you so much
Absolutely delicious looking.
Thank you, much appreciated
Hilarious, my husband used to peel potatoes & I was always telling him to make them clean. My mother in law was from Port Aux Basque and she loved my fish cakes. I make them much like yours but I don't have salt fish I just add salt and fry them.✅
Yeah in these recipes mom wants clean potatoes 🥔
Adding sugar is interesting, didn’t know it would make it taste less salty. My husband is from Bell Island, has been residing in Southwestern Ontario for over 50 years now.
Mmmmm looks Forkin’ Delicious!! 😍 We just made traditional Irish fish cakes over on our channel, love seeing the differences in recipes!! 🧑🍳
Absolutely, foods can definitely connect people from all over the world. Seeing the different ingredients and how it's cooked is truly amazing, and even some foods are extremely similar, and it makes you wonder how it's possible. There's a definite connection along the line somewhere.
This is really helpful. I am cooking at a soup kitchen and I have 10 lbs of basa fillets to do something with. Fish cakes just like this would be great. Thankyou.
You're welcome.
My poppy and I used to catch heck when we’d sneak the scruchins 😂😂😂
Hahaha
Another great video !
Thanks
yummy!!!
love this channel
Thank you so much
They look delicious, but we’res the savory
Listen to mom son
When it comes to food, she's the expert
Youve been told lol
Director/Producer/Consultant... She doesn't get paid enough. Maybe that 60/40 split was accurate.
Mom doesn't like the camera. Made me giggle.
😄
Is your Mum, the Producer or the SME (Subject Matter Expert)?😅 Sorry, but she needs more screen time in your Episodes... We ❤ her!
As time goes on, we will be getting her in more videos. Our channel is just a year old, and we have big plans as we continue to grow and find our own unique way of creating content. We have a team behind the scenes that's been with us from the beginning that's helping us shape this channel into a place people will want to come and enjoy some wholesome family content. This fall, I plan to start going live, maybe do some cooking in the garage over the stove. We're not sure how often we will be doing a live. It's like everything. It will take some time and practice to get comfortable with being live. Eventually, I want to do a live cooking episode every Sunday night. We have big plans for the channel but it will take some time to get there.
He's only cooking so he can eat all the way ..lol go back to couch..mom the bomb..
Can I move in w/y'all???!!!
Traditional Newfoundland cooking is the best
I guess we know who you got your cooking skills from.
There's no better cook than mother. Home cooking is better than any fast food, it's a shame that most of this generation knows nothing about cooking. Our healthcare will be overwhelmed in 20 years with illnesses related to the poisons in today's foods. This generation will only be eating prepackaged meals or takeout.
lol
