Thanks. You’ve helped me crack the code of this amazing song! The sad break I that moves me so much (“We all…”) struck me as a moving part that felt so perfect but out of place (like some subtle key change), but I see it’s so clearly in the key but projects an incredibly bittersweet emotional tone within a well-explored structure. A masterpieces of Townsend!
Thanks so much for covering this little known (to most folks at least) Who tune! This, and "Naked Eye," are possibly my most favorite Who songs in their catalog, even amongst all the other countless classics. Great post, thanks!
Totally agree about those two songs. I first heard them when I bought 'Odds and Sods' on vinyl in the 70s when I was in high school. Another great tune off that album is "Little Billy".
James-- In addition to offering the most helpful lessons of any I've ever seen on RUclips, AND your great guitar collection, I'm amazed at your humility. No ego, not even wanting to show your face. But your work is very much appreciated. Thank you!
Lotta body English on that one J Twice. Great tune. I know you were having fun playing along with Pete, almost as much fun as I had jamming to your version!! Thank you
I'll never forget seeing the who on cable tv in 79-80 late dec I believe at maple leaf gardens in Toronto, and I wasn't allowed to stay up for the whole concert I was only 9-10 and I turn the radio simulcast on q107 in Toronto and got to hear the song I wanted at the time was baba O Riley . Anyway's thanks for the post JJ Godbless Go Duke !!!!! No slippers left either .
Hi hi james x2, Man...you are the chord master...I guess your leads are pretty o.k. too...ha ha ha. You must have been born with perfect pitch!! How very cool man. I try to play classical..now you are corrupting me...must get an electric guitar. 🎸🎼🎵🎶🎵🔊
There was nothing "Easy" about the game Duke just played v UCF. It was "Pure" entertainment. The ratings for a Devil/Heel Chip would be otherworldly. Fingers crossed. Oh yeah, your playing continues to amaze. Thanks!
It all starts with that high G note on the intro chords. Once you hear that, you know that all three of those chords have to have that note on top. There's only so many possibilities to try. Then you sound out the chords from there.
He couldn't really play for any other band. But then, no other drummer could play for The Who. Nothing against Kenney Jones, who was fantastic with the Small Faces and Faces, but the band really died with Moon, in my opinion.

Pete Townshend truly the strum master of first position chords. So much feeling in the way he brings life to his music.
I think of him a lot like Keith Richards - rhythm first, lead second. That’s my favorite kind of playing actually.

The spirit really takes over at the outro. Just like when Pete does it.
Probably it's of the best The Who performances
Great, man!
Well done!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻many people may think this an easy song to cover Of course we know anything Pete Townsend
Is never easy.
Great playing of a super song and totally distracted by the brilliance of Moons drumming!
Townshend knew his chords. So do you!

If I could hit "like" a billion times I would.
That guitar sounds brilliant dude!!
"We all know success..." one of my favorite PT power pop tunes. Nice work. Thanks JJ
Great lesson JJ. Always love The Who. Just saw Styx at the strawberry festival inFlorida a couple weeks ago
Hay JJ I love how it really gets cranking at the end)
Probably the most fun riff to play in any rock song.
Nailed it!
Thanks JJ, Awesome Tune, not heard much anymore, cheers, Mike
Bravo
This is a tough one.

How do you know all those shapes and all those chords that's the part that amazes me

Duke by one, in the last 8.1 seconds
Hello jj
JJ, “DUKE” celebrating March Madness & rooting for Coach K....
A fluke bounce off the rim is all that separates Duke and UCF. Dawkins played insanely well.
How good was Moon? I mean honestly!!
