Here is what the Indiana Notary Public Guide states: “Attach the certificate to the left-hand margin using a staple or another type of fastener that will make holes if torn out.”
Thanks for clarifying, this is good to know. I have never stapled but wondered if I should. I do complete the NNA’s certificates and complete the bottom section. Thank you again!
In my training for GNW I was instructed to staple an attached certificate to a document; like a book--top and bottom. I don’t do loan singing though and can imagine this would impede your ability to scan back and such.
What I found is that some notary instructors teach without verifying these little tips & tricks. They say things that sound practical but may not be state law or wanted by the company or person that requested the notarization. 1st time hearing to booklet staple an acknowledgement
Hi Griff. Just as an FYI :Perhaps new notaries are getting confused on that because the National Notary Association has a video on RUclips that demonstrates at 3:37 minutes into the video that the certificate is stapled to the back of the document. Video is titled : How to Complete an Acknowledgment. 😊 Love and Light!
you are correct and I spoke with the NNA and they said that they are basing that instruction on CA law and that other states don't allow for certificates to be stapled to the documents.
Thanks Mr. Griff what if there is not enough room on the document to use a stamp can you stamp it on the back of the document or i gotta us a loose certificate Thanks
True they do but that's based on California law. I believe I explained that in this video or part 2. I called nna and they said that stapling is not for Virginia
Thank you for all you do Sir! I really enjoy how you are keeping it real and telling the truth about the industry!@@GriffinNotary You got my thumbs up guaranteed!
I think you are asking how many certs to use for a doc with two names. There isn't any guidelines. If you can fit the two on the cert you are adding cool...if not use as many as needed. As long as it is properly notarized you good. You can make your own cert. One for one person. Another for multiple people as long as it has your state required verbiage again you good.
@@GriffinNotary Conflicting information can cause the confusion you were speaking of. Personally doing it one way versus what’s considered standard maybe is why there’s some confusion. Mr. Griffin, you always tell your audience to go by our states handbook or check with the NNA. I’m not sure if I’ve ever heard you say “personally I would or wouldn’t _____” especially if it’s stated or shown exactly how to do something hence ( our states handbook/NNA).
I have never been told to staple any documents to each other. I don't see the purpose of stapling individual pages to each other. Especially when you have the ability to ID the doc the apa is for. Additionally in the video I did say you can ask the people that provided you the docs if they want you to staple it. When I say personally it's based on 4 yes in the business and never being definitely told that we should staple. Also my state handbook doesn't state I should staple an acknowledgement
On page 81 of the NNA's "The Complete How-to Guide for Notaries" it states to staple the certificate to the document's signature page. I personally don't like staples, though. There is definitely a need for standardization in the industry.

Mr. Griff, once again thanks for the good information.

I stapled an acknowledgment when doing general notary work… a POA with two witnesses who signed the acknowledgment.

The answer is in this video ruclips.net/video/ICJ90omE5d4/видео.html
Is pa we can use certificate stamp instead of the loose certificate so that we stamp on the same document without having to attach a loose certificate
Hi, are you speaking about not stapling certificates during a closing or for general notarial work as well?
Both. Unless you are instructed to do so
NNA mentions stapling though

Thanks bro. It’s something what notary should know. But what about jurat of being person a life?
Not following your question
2 names 1certificate or 2 certificates for 2name for one document 2 names

This must apply to loan documents but the NNA videos clearly shows someone staple acknowledgments and jurats when doing GNW!
Personally I would not staple if I am filling out the portion that id's the doc it is for.
