    It’s super cool of nk to let people play around with this bug for a while. A lot of devs would have patched that out super quick, but nk was smart enough to see this for the content renaissance that it is. They gotta fix it eventually, but the community is never gonna forget this.

    I don't think ninja kiwi think the bug is that major. It only truly affects late game or obscure challenges. No one used transformation in bosses anyway except for this bug so banning it is a simple fix. I bet they already have the bug fixed but they're just finishing the update before they release it.

      I'm not that good at farming and I was almost able to get it up by round 40... It also gives you infinite money, so you could just greet the round 60 BFB with what is effectively a 14-14-14-7 vtsg with just one layer of it.

      @@bastian_5975 other than bosses, in which they've been banning tt5, the only real other 'challenge' gamemode is CHIMPS, where you can't farm or sell, making the bug much harder to pull off.

    I would be cool if they keep a mode in game where fun glitches can remain lol a "You asked for it" mode lol completely separate from the main game. Or heck maybe they can use this trick to make a new kind of monkey buff to other towers, but limit it so it's not out of control lol

    It would be funny if there was like an "Insane Alchemist Lab" map where, if you place alchemists on a bunch of marks, upgrade all of them to transforming tonic, then the central mark to total transformation, you could then link monkeys to the alchemist in certain spots

      This is probably my favorite idea since limiting it to one map let’s players experiment and have fun but doesn’t force them to completely rework the rest of the game to compensate. If you don’t want it to effect a boss or a challenge; just don’t use that map. Simple.

    It'd be really cool if one day Ninja Kiwi implemented this bug in a more balanced state as a feature
    Like giving the total transformation a second ability to link two towers!
    Obviously some of the more janky or game breaking stuff would need to be patched, but it'd be incredibly cool!

    The only other bug that I know of that was close to this broken was in destiny 2, when they first introduced strand this year the hunter super would deal ghost damage, the boss would lose hp that was not assigned to anyone, so if you dealt 700k damage the boss lost about 1.4mil.

    Something actually quite similar to this is happening in destiny 2 right now. You are able to craft weapons with perks and other things they normally can’t have, giving you things like auto rifle shooting grenades from a grenade launcher and much more that can practically insta kill most bosses and players. Sadly, but understandably, the devs are patching it out tomorrow.

      @@momoavatar4960From what I've seen and heard, the weapon crafting glitch was pretty much fixed. Any glitched weapon in anyone's inventory or vault was fixed by reverting it to base frame and perks. You can't make any new ones as well.

      I came here to say this. It's super funny that a similar bug was discovered in both games at around the same time.
      Sometimes the world do be silly like that tho.
      The coolest thing though is that both devs had the same reaction, give players time to play with it before rushing to fix it.

    I hear Terraria has a transmutation glitch where with a specific setup, you can have an item navigate the item ID table and eventually get a Zenith without having to beat any bosses

    This was a great explanation, thanks :) But I don't think it would be the CPU cache that's being talked about, it would be a cache implemented in the game code. A CPU cache is generally not controlled directly (you can but it's fiddly and generally unnecessary), wouldn't cause the bug that way, and wouldn't be emptied on a timer. A cache implemented in software however could easily be designed like that.

      for the most part OOP implementations (like IL2CPP Unity, which is what BTD6 is) are too large/fragmented to fit in the CPU cache in these discrete chunks anyway lol

    we had this bug in btd6, and now over in Destiny 2 we have a bug that allows you to combine 2 weapons together, im sensing a pattern here

    Probably not going to find many others here that play both games, but I do find it a little funny that both Destiny 2 and BTD6 happen to experience a very similar bug at around the same time that completely obliterates their respective games and both devs kind of just decided to let the players go wild with it for a little while

    I’m curious, bugs can stay hidden for a long time so when was the first time this bug even became possible? Its even possible to have gone unnoticed for a few years but it also could have just been introduced in the last few updates

      I actually think that the bug got introduced with beast handlers, since they sort of use links between themselves, and the game also crashes if you try to upgrade the link tower, unlike any other tower

      I have a cracked version of the game that I played before I bought the full version, and it works on that old version of the game that doesn’t even have paragons.

    I think the Transmutation bug in Terraria can equal this. It allows you to get any item in the game within minutes of starting a brand new world. In addition, you can summon an infinite amount of certain bosses, spawn projectiles out of thin air, and create a fully automatic bore drill.

      It can also let you turn blocks and/or furniture items invisible, make you invulnerable to contact damage, give you infinite speed, and some other stuff.
      Also I've narrowed down the requirements for transmutation so low that I was able to beat a skyblock map with a single block and no starting items. The start is very rough though.
      Console may also have the ability to spawn mobs and NPCs, but that hasn't been looked into yet. God I love transmutation.

    I can think of only 1 bug of similar magnitude.
    It's called "door bridges" and is from the game: Lumber Tycoon 2 in Roblox.
    Basically people found out you could build a tower of doors that are slightly inside each other, on top of a sideways door.
    And when you open or close that first sideways door, the entire tower of other doors would go with it, essentially creating a large bridge.
    This was huge because for the first time ever could people build structures outside their own land.
    This would be known as the "door bridge" glitch and the developer kept it in because it was fun.
    The magnitude seems similar because people took it super far just like in BTD6 here.
    People figured out you could attach cars to the door bridge to make corners,
    create stairs on the door bridge,
    create giant garage doors,
    bridges to other islands,
    and even make a bridge under the map towards an out-of-bounds area to buy an event item long past it's removal date.

      oh, that reminds me of the sandbox-ey games that I never really remember the name of, it was a while ago (probably more than 8 years) but like, if you made a structure fall with physics (I don't really know how the physics could be enabled, I couldn't find the game when I was nostalgic for it, I think it was just a setting?) and since windows were thin enough you could use them to walk both on the structure and the ground, pushing the entire thing in the process. I had a lot of fun making very simple structures with instant death spikes on them and putting them directly on their respawn points lol

    To anyone who loves this crazy update, I recommend you play Noita. It’s a roguelike platformer almost like a procedurally generated metroidvania, and the Wand Building System lets you make some absolutely ridiculous stuff, mixing spells in order to make mentally insane weapons.

    I really hope linked towers would be turned into a feature, obviously it wouldnt be that broken but it would be really cool. We already have the beast handlers merging into each other, maybe this could be an added benefit of alchemist/village/engineer

    Have loved seeing your content on this bug, and have enjoyed messing around with it in a few games as well. This video was laid out very well and explained very clearly! And I'm glad Ninja Kiwi is letting everyone enjoy the bug for a little while. It would be cool if they kept some version of it in, as maybe at least a sandbox option, just for fun; but it'd make more sense just to completely solve it.

    4:58 i think ur getting the games internal entity pool (aka enity cache) stored in ram confused with cpu caches. the game really has no control over the cpu cache, its something utilized by ur processor to speed up ram accesses by basically storing the result from previous ram accesses. the "entity cache" (probably more appropriate to call it a pool) u are referring to is an internal data structure stored in ram so that entities do not have to be recreated and destroyed which would take more cpu cycles than just reusuing entities.

    This may be broken, but it's no arbitrary code execution. On old console games, it's fun: you can make Super Mario World run snake or Ocarina of Time render Breath of the Wild link. In modern games, it is terrifying because *any* data that is on the computer becomes compromised.

    minecraft had a similarish bug called word tearing where you had to do some crazy setup like putting grass in certain places and all sorts of random things but eventually you would be able to fuse the ids of 2 blocks in some way which allowed players to obtain normally unobtainable blocks

    I have never seen a bug like THIS before.
    Probably the only thing that comes close to it that I know of is the bugged nature of certain weapons in Ratchet and Clank 2, allowing them to either deal ABSURD amounts of damage that they otherwise should not be able to, or just straight up break and don't work.

    (Warning, long read. A long beautiful glitchy mess of a read)
    A while ago, I used to play on a minercraft server called "Mineplex". A server famous for minigames. On one fateful Christmas day, around 2017, the game got a seasonal event, one that had much more impact than you'd expect. One that completely shattered how the server works. I'll mostly be using my favorite minigame as an example here. "Block hunt". A hiding game where the hiders hide as blocks and the hunters try to find and kill them.
    So first off, suddenly no one is able to select a kit, normally hunters can choose a leaping kit, a tnt kit and a radar kit. Each comes with its own armor and abilities. Hiders get kits too, which generally change how you hide (or if you hide at all). However all their kits have the same axe and bow. So what happens if you start a game and didn't get a kit? Well, hiders started with just their axe and bow. And they looked like regular players instead of blocks and they have no way to hide. Hunters meanwhile started with absolutely nothing, no weapons, no armor. This combined with the fact that hiders do get a weapon and vastly outnumber the hunters (20 to 4) meant every game became a slaughter fest with hunters dying constantly until the game ended. Oh also the spawning places were glitched, so hunters spawned where hiders used to spawn and vice versa. This is the part where I come in. I was kinda infamous on mineplex for abusing various exploits. So after some fun seeing the absolute broken mess, I started messing around more. Shortly after that I discovered that if you joined the spectator team, you were able to select a kit and keep that kit if you pick the hider/hunter team. This worked with any kit. You could pick a hider kit as hunter or a hunter kit as hider. This brought some amazing interactions with it. If you select leaper hunter as hider, you get the abillity to right click your axe for a speed boost and a leap forward. (the speed boost is a normal hider thing). Also you get the hunter armor set as hider, which is severely busted since you become basically unkillable against the armless hunters. TNT hunter normally throw splash damage tnt but as TNT hider, your tnt damages hunter nor hider, making it useless. Taking hider kits as a hunter just makes you an unarmed hunter with the abillity to change into blocks which at least allows you to hide from the... hiders I guess but isn't that interesting.
    The real most interesting combination is TNT... hunter. Just a regular hunter kit. Remember when I said the teams were swapped places? Hunters normally need to wait some time to allow hiders to hide, with spawns swapped, hiders are all stuck at hunter spawn for some time before the slaughter starts. This little amount of time is enough for me to run towards the spawning place, drop a TNT in there and blow up the entire army of hiders in one go to win the game in a spectacular fashion. I actually used it to get the record most hider kills in 1 game on the server forum.
    There's even more wacky stuff outside of block hunt. If you get a chest in any gamemode and right click it, it'll open your cosmetics menu. Normally you can use these to make loud noises or transform into special mobs while you are waiting in a lobby for a real game to start, but this glitch allowed you to use said cosmetics in a real game. The strategy was, start a game, get a chest, turn into a wither, fly around and blast everyone to smithereens with ease.
    Best Christmas of my minecraft career.

    It would be so cool if they added something like this to the challenge editor or in general as a feature for private games. I'm still waiting for the day they make a No BADs mode for the challenge editor and make it possible to freeplay on your challenges....

    I am not sure how or how to replicate it but when trying to do infinite abilities, I managed to freeze the perma-phoenix and it started acting like a base 000 sniper. it wouldn't even shoot at camos.

    I knew it. I knew it had to be somewhat purposeful that nk would allow this glitch to happen. I don’t know if it’s because they have a big update coming out and they wanna patch it then instead of a micro update for this one big glitch alone, or if they’re raking in money from the free advertising that this glitch has produced in the last few weeks, but they wouldn’t completely killed all traction of online conversations if they killed off this bug as soon as they saw it.

      That would be incredibly fun, but it won't happen because some of the more casual players won't know what the bug is, and just see an insanely hard boss with no way to counteract it. Sure, the bug exists and is allowed, but it's not like NK is just gonna come out and tell everyone "Hey guys, there's a massive game-breaking bug that's complicated and slightly random to set up, and you're gonna need to exploit it to beat this boss."

    what if the glitch could be re-enabled as a secret setting like mini bloons? obviously it would have to disable achievements so that you cant get achievements, but it would still be fun to see what could be done with it

    This is incredibly similar to the recent Destiny 2 crafting bug from like 2 weeks ago where you could craft weapons with abilities of other weapon subtypes. For example, you could make a slug shotgun fire a spread but every bullet in the spread is a slug. You could make a grenade launcher fire at AR speeds. You could have a sword that would strike like 3 times per swing (triple the damage). The possibilities were endless. Similar to Ninja Kiwi, Bungie said “have fun” and publicly allowed it as they took time to figure out how to fix it.

    I had a weird thing happen where the head of the sun god was moved to the head of a linked dart monkey when the sun god attacked it crashed but I still got a screen shot. Any idea why that happened?

    I played a game called "the mean greens: plastic warfare" and found out how to escape the map using both entity cramming and rocket jumping, I was probably the only one to figure it out so if I wanted I could just escape the map and shoot everyone. I love finding glitches, its so fun, there've definitely been bigger glitches in gaming though in general, but this one is a banger

    I was trying this myself and the weirdest thing happened, I was in sandbox combining the super monkey and the heli, I got a link deleted all the towers accept the two linked ones, the heli got deleted, just the flying part not the base, I send a Moab to test and my game instantly crashes.

    Honestly the best way to patch this glitch is to completely change transforming tonic and total transformation just like soulbind cuz no one used them.

    Lunia had some fun bugs/glitches (game was dead, may or may not be revived but I'd assume some bugs were fixed). DFO had some exploits as well such as a Mechanic's summon swarm in a single room when playing solo for Hell Mode (took way too long to do for any reasonable amount of time so it was useless), but Lunia's were pretty spectacular
    Lunia glitches were pretty wild --
    - Dacy's immortal doll glitch that was used for end-game content because you were supposed to somehow have 5 people cover 6 lanes to protect devices at one end of the lane on a timer was a big one. You plugged an immortal doll into one of the lanes to lure all the mobs there so you could ignore the lane until the time ran out and cleaned up afterward. This was eventually patched when they changed the end-game map so you had 5 players covering 5 lanes (instead of 6 lanes)
    - Yuki's Infinite Ice Queen Summon, where you are only supposed to be able to summon one at a time, but with certain healers you can interrupt the summoning animation so the de-summoning of the existing summons never happened. And since they were supposed to be de-summoned, the old timer stopped applying to them so they basically stuck around forever. So you could take a swarm of the summons and clear house, theoretically (except it took a long time to get a summon swarm due to how long the CD on the summon skill was). This was fixed by removing/changing the skill. Glitch was still applicable on certain summons though
    - Trapping bosses outside of their rooms is still possible for some stages. If they were spawned before entering the boss room and you could hit them from outside of range, you could lure them out of the boss room. You'd then walk into the boss room and the boss would be trapped outside the barrier as long as it was still aggro'ed since it wouldn't teleport back to spawn. Glitch wasn't applicable on any of the more difficult maps, obviously.
    There were probably more glitches that I haven't mentioned that were pretty out there. Basic mechanics abuse was trapping enemies on ledges and spamming skills through the barrier, some ledges and barriers a whole lot less visible than others (eg. the awkward shape of some rooms had some very tiny ones that functioned as ledges sometimes), but that's more of an oversight than a proper glitch. There was some i-frame dodging of mechanics where you just freeze in mid-iFrame so you're invincible until the freeze expired (several invincibility shenanigans that prevented instant death mechanics even though you lost all your HP, though basic game mechanic for death was the criteria of losing all HP *and* getting knocked down for it to count as a death unless you were transformed and lost all HP)... some anti-transformation glitch during a forced transformation minigame section that allowed you to almost completely bypass playing the minigame for that particular map. Can't remember anything else. In any case, most of those are probably all gone now since they're rebooting the game

      I forgot, DFO's were pretty wild as well. Buff-swapping was a thing, so they eventually just added in an entire UI dedicated to making it easier/simpler. There were also a ton of different shenanigans with snapshotting with stats, so some classes abused the hell out of those with gear swaps as well (until they got patched out by changing the skills to not snapshot)
      One of the abuses was to take the Male Mechanic's G-3 Raptor skill and snapshot attack range and interval (along with other stats, but they were not as important as the x2 atk damage from attack interval decrease), then tack on a bunch of damage modifiers from an assortment of equipment that would normally not be very good nor useful on the class. It turned a garbage skill into something reasonably usable, with the caveat of needing to swap a full set of equipment twice every minute or so. The build had the single skill (or set of skills that functioned as essentially only one skill) that made up about 50% of the damage dealt, and that build was about par with the meta set-up until the developers completely gutted the snapshotting
      Another abuse was the confuse status effect allowing you to attack ally summons, so G-3 Raptors would have 3 sets of 2 raptors that latch onto enemies, and each enemy could only be targeted by a single pair of Raptors under normal circumstances. If several enemies died at the same time, there was a chance that several pairs would latch onto the same enemy. You could probably guess that there was a potential abuse for summoning your own robots while confused, targeting them with Raptors, instantly destroying them at the same time so they would all target the same enemy, so you would effectively triple your damage on a single target with the glitch. Even funnier was that there was a certain summon that could be targeted but wouldn't take damage nor be destroyed by the Raptors, so you could use it to "ferry" the triple latched Raptor across the room from a safe corner. Needless to say... the developers probably did not like that. I think pretty soon after I discovered and posted the exploit, they started working on fixing the "Confusion" status effect to not destroy ally summons and also made it so this one necklace equipment that gave the confusion status when equipped stopped giving confusion as a default just by wearing it (changed the penalty to only apply when at low HP). Imagine... TRIPLE DPS on a skill that was already almost HALF the DPS of an entire meta build (and occasionally better than half depending on circumstances). They let the confusion status be a bane to Summoner classes' existences for YEARS prior to that, legitimately making those classes unplayable if someone on the team was confused, and only decided to fix it after it turned out to be exploitable. LMAO xD
      Then there were so many other snapshotting shenanigans with equipment sets with all sorts of classes. Elementalist was queen of snapshotting abuse with all sorts of bizarre configurations and cycling to maximize damage, but the damage was so massive that you had to do it. Male Mechanic just had the more amusing one with utilizing all sorts of proc effects when it was a class that practically couldn't proc anything back then since summons were unable to proc effects (they've changed that too more recently, but I don't play anymore)

    That is not how the CPU cache works, at all.
    The CPU cache is completely transparent to the software. Software can't decide what is put into the cache or when it's evicted. Developers can only make their data more space efficient.

      @@Xnoob545 That's a completely different type of cache, implemented at a different level and is under full control of the software developer. Mentioning CPU cache will only cause confusion and spread misinformation and people will just have wrong ideas about this in the end. There are lots of types of caches at various levels. Your browser creates a cache on disk, shader programs are cached on disk and are loaded into RAM to avoid recompilation. CPU cache has nothing to do with any of this.

    you don't need to use a 0-5-0 wizard for the infinite abilities, a 0-4-0 alchemist works as well, is substantially cheaper, and allows you to have multiple abilities running. I got 2 supply drops and an elite sniper supply drop and was earning cash almost 2x as quickly.
