I have to tell a story of a Santana live performance I was at. It was early 90's in San Francisco. A free concert in Golden Gate Park with thousands of people there. My wife and 11 year old son were with me, as we snaked through the crowd to get close to the stage where Santana was already playing. Unbelievable electric atmosphere. As we made it through the crowd we passed by a huge fabric, with maybe 30 or 40 people around it, stretching it out as a make-shift trampoline that one person at a time was being sent high into the air. It looked really fun and a little scary. We moved on towards the stage because we really wanted to see Santana. Suddenly we lost our 11 year old boy. OMG, where was he, lost in this huge crowd?? Then all of a sudden we saw him - high up in the air!! We were relieved and very surprised. He had seen the trampoline and talked his way into being next. He had a great time and we all laughed about it. We retrieved him and proceeded to make it almost to the very front of the stage. The show was absolutely amazing, and of course he played Europa, which was magical, as was the entire experience. Those were the days.
I love that story… scary and breathtaking 😳One of my sons used to always wander away, and when we were at the music festivals, he was always up there with some band doing music stuff. Of course, he’s a musician these days still .
I’ve seen Carlos Santana twice. The first was as the opening act for The Rolling Stones, in 1981. Second time he was headliner at a small outdoor venue near Chicago around 2016 that was really fun. In both cases, he got so very much out of his guitar. It was hard to believe that what we were hearing was also what we were seeing. Two really great nights of music and I’d have to say even that 35 years apart “Europa” was the highlight of the show for me. Many bands have covered this song - for good reason - some were excellent. Thank you LEE
Absolutely incredible track by Santana! Thanks Cora for bringing this awesomeness to us! And thanks L33 for bringing us together to appreciate it! ☮️❤️🎶
An absolute master of his instrument and a such conveyor of emotion. Personal note: I got to spend about 30 minutes with him in 1973. What an intelligent and kind gentleman he was. He has been all his career.
OMG this song always makes me cry. It reminds me of growing up in my old Mexican neighborhood in California back in the 70s. I went back a few years ago and when this song came on it just brought back vivid memories of good times, bad times, and all the people that made the neighborhood. It was as if I stepped back in time to my childhood. Beautiful but bittersweet. Santana has been a part of my life going back as long as I can remember. I love this song.
In 1972, Carlos and drummer Michael Shrieve decided to move on from the old Santana rock and roll environment and go in a more personally fulfilling direction. The1st album from that decision was Caravaserai (great album, worth checking out). Also, Carlos has always had great musicians around him.
"Golden Hours" from Carlos' 1980 jazz album "The Swing of Delight" (an album packed with famous sidemen, including ALL of Miles Davis' famous mid-1960s quintet with Hancock, Shorter, Tony Williams and Ron Carter on two tracks - the only guy missing is Miles himself, I wish they had also done a separate album with this eminent group and Carlos, he and Miles were long-time friends!) is a superb piece too, and it builds up to a just as powerful, dissonant, tearing guitar solo anchored by a similar powerful bass/drums groove.
Anything Carlos touches turns to gold. Loved hearing it again. This one hit the radio a lot in the 1980s. Do yourself a huge treat and look up a live version on video. WORTH it! "Live In Montreaux 2011" is a good one. Have a great day L33.
When a song with no words can make you emotional you know you've got something special ! It's like he made that guitar cry ! This has always been one of my favorite Santana songs , If not favorite ! Thank you for reacting to this ✌️🙏
I was a Union Stagehand for 30 + years, worked thousands of shows, but the Best Show I saw was the "Love, Devotion and Surrender" Tour with Carlos Santana playing with the Mahavishnu Orchestra.. McLaughlin and Santana trading licks and driving each other into the Stratosphere was awe inspiring! The only performances that came close, were seeing Ravi Shankar in 1968 and Itshak Perlmann on violin in the 90's. Completely different styles but all Masters of their Instruments!
Best guitar sound of the era. Heard a cover of this during meal time at my brothers wedding. Guitarist nailed it. Walked up and shook his hands. Only person to know what he had just accomplished. He grinned ear to ear. BTW, saw Santana well over 20 times in all kind of settings and with many guest.
Been busy all day. I'll never catch up, but glad my 10 minutes to put my feet up included this pick. Thanks Cora, a great listen over too soon. Too funny, Lee. Blessings all.
70’s has the best music ! This track is a Masterpiece ❤️❤️ 🎸 my future wife & I had many romantic nights back then with this album on in the background ❤
Santana was a band and was a collaboration between the various revolving members, it's not just Carlos Santana! It was a band until the 1999 Supernatural album, starting with that album Carlos Santana has made the band's name to whatever project he was into. He also has separate solo career and has released albums under his name.
@@fineasfogg1461 That album is great, but it should have been credited as a Carlos Santana solo album or Carlos Santana and Friends album, and not a Santana album because the band was not really involved with it.
Back in the day there were some songs that the ladies just went ohhhh and a sigh when it started, this was one and also Unchained Melody by the Righteous brothers ❤❤❤ I used to just close my eyes and listen to Carlos guitar
Such a glorious piece, with apex musicianship and groove! You're right the guitar tone and choice of notes are perfect, the rhythm section is amazing too. Coming from Europe myself I sometimes wonder what made the great Mexican-American guitarist name this piece for our continent...but the way it becomes more pounding, dark and agitated from around 5:15 feels like it might evokes Europe's wars and struggles. The drums and bass tighten, locking into a motoric groove that anchors the music, while the guitar grows ever more dissonant and howling until it finally resolves at 6:13 and gets into the outro... :) I agree with you, this one could have been going on for ten minutes and one would just have been riveted anyway, but it's been a long-term live favourite with the band of course! :)
Great tune/instrumental---I remember my guitar teacher had me learn this song when we were doing 7th chords and resolutions. He had me play the rhythm and he took lead and had all the fun doing the soloing 😄. And yeah, that's one helluva guitar tone he's got!
I love this song and have covered it in a couple of bands I've been in. Being a bass player I got to play this incredible bass line which is so much fun to do.
Santana is always excellent! Try Corazon Espinado from the Supernatural album. It’s in Spanish and, frankly it makes it even better in going with the rhythm of the music…and you must dance.
hi there. There'´s two excellent tracks in the same album namely Gitano, played in Spanish and Dance Sister Dance, the perfect blend of latin and rock sounds. Highly recommendable. I hope you'll get to them soon enough. Big hug alongside my blessings. Grandpa Diego.
Yes yes yes… this is wonderful… his guitar work is always un-effin-believably heavenly. Since you mentioned this, I had to run and play the song again and I’m smiling big😊
You know, a lot of people dis Santana because he does not play super fast or insanely complex solos but this is surely the most beautiful sound anyone has ever teased out of an electric guitar. Try some tracks off Abraxas or Caravanserai, especially Samba Pa Ti of Song of the Wind. No one comes close.
This track is a classic, and I don’t know of another like it. In Santana’s discography, I’m rather fond of the “Caravanserai” album, but it lacks a particularly superb track that I can recommend. The album as a whole just suits me when I’m in the mood for it, though I admit that I normally skip the “Future Primitive” track.
Do the Soul Sacrifice from Woodstock but not this modern edit version that's on YT. Take it from the movie with the full drum solo, full keyboard solo, and complete guitar solo unlike recent edits vastly available.
SANTANA - " Flor D'Luna (Moon Flower) " 70's Rockin' Instrumentals // Also Santana's Younger Brother " JORGE SANTANA - " Love The Way " 1978 Rock / Soul Jazz / R&B / Blues. One of Santana's very best.
Absolutely incredible track by Santana! Thanks Cora for bringing this awesomeness to us! And thanks L33 for bringing us together to appreciate it! ☮️❤️🎶
Love the word you used to describe Carlos’ playing when Europa started-“impeccable!” Possibly my favorite Santana song
Three words to describe Carlos' very long career: Passion, Grace, and Fire...
An absolute master of his instrument and a such conveyor of emotion.
Personal note: I got to spend about 30 minutes with him in 1973. What an intelligent and kind gentleman he was. He has been all his career.
It was SANTANA!!! So sultry

Me too but in San Antonio
All the fine Chevys were playing Carlos. My Azusa friends did in their low, ride, ers. ❤

@@louise_rose Thanks for the heads up. I wasn’t aware of this jazz album. I do have some Miles, Herbie, Wayne and others in my collection.
All time! Not just by santana
This is some good shit

Oh, I know this one. So smooth and such a mood….
Thank you for that, Cora and Lee
Classic guitar track.
that sustain.........................wow. i probably have listened to this at least a thousand times. it never gets old

Just make sure it’s the unedited version !!!!!
Yes, Yes, Yes!
He looks like a young kid at Woodstock. I guess we all have aged a little bit since the late 60s😂😂😂

This is one of Santana's greatest songs. Other great songs too on this great album. They don't make music or guitarists like this anymore.
That's the thing about going down a rabbit hole isn't it? You just don't know where it will lead. This was a great direction to go! Good pick Cora!

Listen to " Incident at Nesahabur" from Abraxas,it starts off rocking and then slows down. You'll love it.

Santana is elite and very recognizable. I'd love to hear something from Caravanserai by Santana. Totally different.

There is a live version on the Santana album, Moonflower. It is pretty similar to this recording but the solos play out.
