I just loved it when during the first few seconds one could hear the sound of the needle being put down gently and carefully on the disk.. brings back ohmygod so old memories of the times before there were compact disks..like pulling the newest Oldfield album out of the paper folding (or whatever it is called, english is not my mother language), smelling it, not a single speck of dust on it, and then with the head close to the speaker and deeply in trance awaiting the music.. Thanks and blessings!
Nothing I can think of sounds more genuine. It feels like a window into someones complex and troubled soul. Sound just like the vinal i used to play this on staring into an empty distance as a lonely child. This music made me feel, im not alone.
Airborn was my first Oldfield album, I bought it when I was barely 14... As much as I love Incantations and Exposed I wish there was a cd release of this...
can you believe this? I saw mike in glasgow at the now demolished greens playhouse and the place was empty, mike said that the audience could use their tickets for the next night also.this was all down to the bad management of branson,ie., almost no publicity.its hard to believe that so few people came to those two concerts held by the man who had just delivered tubular bells to us.it was freaking amazing anyway and I think me and my mate made enough noise to make mike and his gang welcome!
Correct. The track title is listed as it appears on the release for simplicity and to make it easy for anyone seeking out the version they know is on the LP and cassette. I detail all the edits in this piece in my book The Mike Oldfield Chronology, available on Amazon.
The Airborn album was released in North America instead of Platinum. It contains most of the Platinum tracks, plus Guilty (instead of Woodhenge). The second LP on the 2 disc edition had this on one side (the Live + Studio hybrid) and an alternate live version of TB pt. 1, from the Exposed Tour (not the TBpt1 from the Exposed album itself).
I was there in 1979, in The Hague, and I saw the concert twice on the same evening. Strange, since they don't seem to do that any more, perform twice on one night. Great for me though!
I remember wearing this album out, especially this side! I loved the 'hybrid' version of the STUDIO + LIVE version of "Incantations." So much so, that the actual studio album took some getting used to. Of course, I had no problem at all with the full live version that appears on EXPOSED.
muchas gracias nunca me ha dado por escuchar este disco es uno de lo que falta en mi colección y la verdad que es maravilloso . he disfrutado mucho gracias.
Do you agree that non-remastered recordings have unique charm? I first heard Oldfield on old cassete which was recorded from radio longplay by Grunding with broken engine so the tonations was sometimes kinda strange and it was terrific, but even correctly recorded non remastered are superb, super clean sounds recorded today are lack of character and soul, they are not the sound completely, like a shadows in Hades.
I was already a huge Oldfield fan from the 70's, when this was released I would put it on when I was coming down from a nose racking night of cocaine abuse washing it down with gallons of tequila or Tanqueray, the 80's who can remember?
So, in north america you hadn´t known the 4 parts of Incantations till the internet era? This sounds like a "wembley" of the Incantations´ first part (1978).
I tried to put the full track listing in my reply, but it was too long. (sigh) You can find it at Wikipedia: Mike Oldfield's Platinum album, under the Airborn 2 LP edition. Airborn was the North American version of the Platinum album (which wasn't released here originally). Most of the Platinum tracks are on Airborn, tho. I'm not sure which tracks you're referring to, as the title doesn't match. I suspect either the 4 "Platinum" parts or "Tubular Bells, Part 1 (live)."
déjà, rien que le bruit de cette bonne vieille platine... j'attends de m'en réoffrir une, vu que j'ai son intégrale à ce monsieur... En bon vieux vinyles...
If there's a reason, it's probably political. Mike has spent most of his life since 1984 living outside England, for a variety of personal, professional and financial reasons. I'm sure the British music industry adds that to their idiotic list of reasons for ignoring his success.

Wow, this is amazing. Definitely one of my favorites. Vangelis and Oldfield are geniuses.
"Airborn" is the first part from album "Platinum" (1979)...this is a excerpt from album Incantations (1978)!
the charm and love of this old vinyl masterpiece always accompanied me... thank you for bringing it back
memorys from the crazy 70 and 80 th,,,thinking of all my best friends who died in this period,,outstanding music,,ryyyyyys!

The section beginning at 13:50 or so is actually from Tubular Bells part 2, regardless of whether any mention was made of it on the label of the LP.
Correct. The track title is listed as it appears on the release for simplicity and to make it easy for anyone seeking out the version they know is on the LP and cassette.

how good music becomes great and classical...
so classical.

Glad you uploaded this, it's very rare :)
Sounds just like my vinyl version - I used to listen to it in the dark in 1978/79.
we played the grooves off this
I forgot to thank you for the upload!
Love you Mike

@schroder01
Thanks, it's how I recorded it from the LP. I'm glad it brought back memories!

Whoa... epic.
Could you please upload side two. I have it on cassette and time has taken it's toll on it. Thank you very much.
Definitely a good idea and this version is one of the hardest ones to find!
Thanks for sharing it!
Rafael
He asked if you there are Mike Oldfield fans in Lebanon?
why in good gods name has this man not been knighted for his services to the british music industry and our ears??
I was already a huge Oldfield fan from the 70's, when this was released I would put it on when I was coming down from a nose racking night of cocaine abuse washing it down with gallons of tequila or Tanqueray, the 80's who can remember?
This hybrid is wonderful! Could you send me the mp3 recording you have done? Thanks!

("Airborn" Live + Studio Hybrid) especially "canon for two vibraphones" is a little too fast by eight seconds
He asked an Italian if there are Lebanese fans if French. Probably best that everyone forgets this entire encounter, haha.
On aime Mike Oldfield jusqu'au Liban?
I'm Italian.
What a weird mashup of studio/live Incantations and T.Bells. Bit of a car crash IMO - I’m guessing Mike didn’t want to get involved.
If there's a reason, it's probably political. Mike has spent most of his life since 1984 living outside England, for a variety of personal, professional and financial reasons. I'm sure the British music industry adds that to their idiotic list of reasons for ignoring his success.
ahaahahahaha
It's a pretty crude cutting job on Incantations, really. Butchered.
Super downhill serio
