I was on 35W North bound at the Southern end of Fort Worth about 6:30 a.m. doing about 45 mph and people were passing me at 60 - 65 mph. Total disregard for the conditions. I am not surprised this happened, but it saddens me to no end.

I noticed roads weren't salted at all yesterday, this should have been done more than a few days ago, because they knew this weather was coming.
Also, I won't rule out the amount of speed involved in this mess, people drive too fast for conditions more often than not. They also don't keep any distance between vehicles.

@Santus Scanderbegus You summed up my point exactly. Accidents like this are rare/ don't happen. That implies since this one did happen that there was a massive failure at the top. The drivers have much blame to deal with, but any time you see massive impact to people (troops, employees, workers, citizens) it starts and ends with a leadership failure. Onesies twosies are individuals. This was catastrophic.

No, the drivers are responsible. Nobody in DFW area knows what a proper following distance is. You're the most dangerous drivers in the nation. You tailgate like mad. You merge with an inch to spare. You hog the passing lane while going 5 under. I'm shocked this doesn't happen every single day, and I kind of wish it would because maybe there would be less of you on the road endangering others.

I think they probably did but they got a shower pass over that area and at 24 degrees water is going to freeze if there is enough of it. When it's that cold and a risk of anything falling drivers need to slow their asses down. If DPS does as their policy describes every driver will be ticketed for driving to fast for the conditions. I saw a truck plow into the rear of the others and he was running ever bit of 60. With drizzle and showers in the area, no one should have been driving over 45. Ft worth has the lane lights to indicate a closed lane, the need the ability to change the speed limit as conditions change.
