  • Yesterday, some of our team members returned from Nebbi, Northern Uganda, to resettle one of our Esther House girls [name withheld because she is a minor].
She came to Kampala to work as a housemaid and ended up in the slum. She was abused and was left to the street and homeless. At the beginning of 2023, at 13 years old, while she was 6 months pregnant, we were told of her story and we brought her in to live at The Esther House, our temporary residential shelter. We immediately began the journey to build her up while she attended our Vocational Training Program. She gave birth via C-Section. During this time, we also worked so hard to locate her family, which we did successfully. She was so diligent in her hair dressing and beauty classes and successfully graduated on December 9. We brought her family to come and attend her graduation, which was so beautiful to watch.
To set her up for success, we paid her business rent in the heart of Nebbi town for six months and bought her business and personal supplies to last for a few months. We gave her a phone to manage her business and also keep us posted on her progress. Importantly, we put her in touch with a local mentor that will make sure everything goes well. We equipped her to succeed and we are confident that she will THRIVE. Our goal for all our girls is to break the cycle of Poverty and become self-sustaining. She is ready and filled with HOPE for a brighter future. We are so excited for her and her baby.
