You answered my #1 question regarding “stand your ground.” It does seem although you’re safer there when it comes to crime than you are in the USA. Hopefully, they don’t have the arrest/release program there.
Glad you're all safe and sound after this attempted break in. Unfortunately I think that as Westerners we are "targets" as we are seen as wealthy. Saying that I still feel safer here when out and about, than I do in the UK!
I'm a believer in security cameras. They alert you and help identify the thief. I've had a car and a package stolen in the states and both were caught. Locks, neighbors, police and cameras combine for a good defense.
It happened to me here where I live outside of Iloilo little over a month ago . My fiancé’s son heard and saw the guy and knocked on the window and scared him off. I’ve been living here over 60 days. My fiancé said because I’m an American. People think we’re rich. The Barangay was angry and stepped up patrols in our area. The guy was trying to jimmy the door we added a dead bolt. No problems since then.
Sorry to hear that you had a near miss there. The landlord definitely needs to be more careful about leaving areas unsecured that criminals can take advantage of. I would also suggest motion alarms, there's a type that can hang on your doorknob and if it disturbs it lets out an ear piercing alarm
I have 2 German Shepherds. The female's name is Arya. She is an assassin like her namesake. I welcome intruders. I realized long before we started construction that "walls" would not keep any determined person out. She was also trained by a police dog trainer from Naga City.
Unfortunately burglary is somewhat common in the Philippines especially for foreigners. I hear it's less common in Davao city but it still happens. As you said in the video most houses have walls and fences topped with glass or barbed wire or spikes, this is for good reason.
Burglary is very common in the UK and you are not allowed to protect your property with barbed wire or broken glass, you must not do anything that may harm the dear little burglar..
I worked in security for many years and can attest that security cameras are the best defense system. My cameras could zoom in into needle haystack. Most predators will hang around to survey the target 🎯 The camera footage will give you the best resource to combat the situation!
Cameras are useless if they are masked up unless you have remote monitoring and response. They are simply a deterrent. Im ex Police and also been in security over 20 years. Mainly in remote monitoring and alarm response. The best deterrent is slowing them down and putting them off to move on to an easier target. You use good physical security and lighting, like good strong locks on doors and windows motion lighting. Even spikey greanery under windows or next to walls and fences is a first line of defence. A determined theif will always get in if they want to. It's about making it slow, difficult and noisy for them.
Good that you are safe. This things happen anywhere. It's also good that you know stuff to secure your area like dogs, lightning, etc. Here in the Philippines especially you are a Foreigner, they know what a Foreigner is. Yes, they will be good to you, be very good to say but they also know who you are and what you have. Always be Safe and your family.
I brought my dog Daisy with me here to the Philippines and she's a big dog (70 lbs) with a deep/ manic bark towards strangers... no one in their right mind would attempt to enter 😊
I've had Rottweiler's. They make excellent guard dogs. They bark so loud and deep at the slightest noise they used to scare anyone who came to the door. Unwanted salespeople would just turn tale and leave before even seeing them. As soon as they sense something they go into guard mode by nature.
Take care always and I wish you and your family safety. Add extra measures like maybe installing CCTVs, these incidents will rise and peak during Christmas season. It's not as bad in previous years only now they had become more daring and emboldened.
Make sure your windows have grills and you have door locks that are good and with also support locks inside you know inside stuffs and add security CCTV around the house..am euro/ fil so this is must even living in my turf just that people from other areas usually do this stuffs..stay safe.
Our condo complex is nestled deep into a neighborhood, but I was still amazed when I realized none of the 14 security guards on duty at any time are armed! I've had a few incidents in the last few months in rural Colorado than I ever had over a year and a half in Davao. Glad your family is safe! God bless and Let's go Brandon!
Hard to recognize the guy, image is so pixelated. But good to see you safe. When I lived there, our house was always open, but closed at night, our windows had grates. Always had people in the house though.
And thats why if I move there its a condo for me with security and amentities and pool might cost a little more but less headache . I think Condo in Philipines is what 500$ for 2 Bedroom.
It would suck to have to live in a home with iron bars on the windows. That’s not living to me, it’s being in a prison of your own making. Here in Florida in the USA we have Stand Your Ground and Castle Doctrine laws and, of course, the Second Amendment to the Constitution.
My two neighbors were burglarized. Also, my sister in laws purse was forcibly taken from her. In 2014 my phone was pickpocket by kids. I think a lot of crimes are unreported because the police don't do anything.
You didn't mention the most obvious security method, camera's? They should be all round the outside of the property and the first thing that should be done! 👍
Same thing happened to me, but luckily I wasn't home and my neighbour was a cop and good friend. He chased the guy away shooting at him. Having a dog is good too.
I’m amazed someone would have the guts to scale an 8’-high wall and attempt to enter your home. What on earth would they expect to find inside your house that is valuable?😊
That's the REALITY of living in the Philippines ESPECIALLY AS A FOREIGNER. AND MOST OF Theft and or Criminals ARE MOSTLY INSIDERS and they knew you or you familiar with.. JUST Leave some DOUBT and LOT OF VIGILANCE for yourself if want living in the Philippines.
THE PHILIPPINES IS NOT WHAT THESE YOU TUBERS MAKING IT OUT TO BE. THE TRAFFIC IS VERY VERY BAD. THE GROCERY PRICES IS VERY HIGH, MOST PHILIPPINES PEOPLE IVE MET ARE RACIST. YES..... VERY RACIST... IVE BEEN IN CEBU 8 MONTHS AND THIS PLACE IS NOT CRACKED UP TO WHAT THEY MAKE IT SOUND LIKE..
The use of lethal force in the Philippines, including firearms, is legal in a home invasion situation. providing that the intruder is approaching in an aggressive way. Fortunately the "bought and paid for" attitude to human life isn't a thing in the Philippines.
As a Father its your job to ensure that all doors are locked and have the bars down before you go to bed... you were lucky this time... buy some pepper spray..
Unfortunately we're about to see a lot worse. Foreign people were getting slaughtered only 8 years ago and I actually had a violent prowler trying to get in in June. Sadly I recently found out he's a police informant. In Philippines as expats your reality is we are on our own. Period. Davao was nice while it lasted.
I agree about dogs. My wife’s family has the exterior gate, bars on every window, etc etc. but the hidden defense for anyone stupid enough to climb over the gate is coming face to face with a couple 50 lb dogs who have no reservations in sinking their teeth into anyone’s behind 😂😂😂
My GF is a good shot with shotgun loaded with buckshot. Hint hint. Wonder why that one revolver has no SN? Must have been the burglers. *for entertainment purposes only* 😆
Get a dog in place but then add an electric fence (to keep the dog in) so that if anyone comes over the fence they will also have to contend with the electricity.
sorry that happened to you but at least burglar was not successful taking anything. maybe investigate the people who were working on your property who left the doors unlocked. maybe they work together
Good to hear nobody got inside. Unfortunately since Marcos came into leadership, crime and particularly drug related crime has increased in the Philippines again. Ironic really when Duterte used to be the Mayor of Davao he stamped down hard on crime. You need to purchase yourself a Bolo.
It only proves that you're not living in a perfect world or wonderland. However, knowing that you're in Davao, I'm pretty sure, their tribe is just a so small and will not flourish. Perhaps, these burglars have not tasted yet the hands of the law. Get a dog. At any rate, just be vigilant and be aware of your surroundings.
My friend let me help you with the laws of defense. My wife is well versed in the the line of defense. 1. Machete on hand at all times. 2. Chop Chop no more body. Nothing happened.
HUMMMM had an air conditioning service....HUMMMMMM rod left out...my Spidey senses tell me that's where I would start...take your daughter there and see if she recognizes anyone.....
All these lines of defense are nonsense, really. Try the conservative answer: Get a gun and use it. They'll try to break in no more, and you're first line of defense will be your last. You're a sitting duck here in Australia and the UK, you've got options here in the US!

If the "Guard dog" is not trained it winds up just barking at everyone within 50 yards of your front gate 24/7....lol

Aww sorry to hear, hope it won't happen again.
So glad everyone was ok, and that nothing was taken! Always love your content, and look forward to seeing you post! 👍 👍
Wow 😮 Thanks for sharing!
Glad that everyone is safe. Thank you for this video to let everyone know.
Glad he didn't gain entrance inside your home and everyone is safe.
Precaution is better than cure.. we don't live in a wonderland. Glad that you are safe..

Sorry for your experience...there's a reason for all the concertina wire surrounding houses in the Philippines.
If there's no sidework, you should walk Looking at the traffic, not have the traffic. Behind you
You need to have dog an azkal dogs who likes barking and install motion sensor cameras which activate bright lights once detected a movement

I guess ill be bringing my security cameras.
You are Naive...Davao is no safer than anywhere else in the Philippines for foreigners.
I had almost the same issue. Unsuccessful fortunately
I worked in security for many years and can attest that security cameras are the best defense system. My cameras could zoom in into needle haystack.
Most predators will hang around to survey the target 🎯

What setup camera and mic are you using? Just curious

That brings up some the question... can you not get HER "2A equipt"? If so, how much of an ordeal is that?
I live in Caloocan had a shooting next door glad we had a security camera also a dog doesn't hurt its a great repellent
That looks like a nice place. Is that Daveo City?

So safe that bars are needed on all doors and windows, barriers and walls, and other security measures around the home itself. Hmmm, Interesting.
Take care always and I wish you and your family safety. Add extra measures like maybe installing CCTVs, these incidents will rise and peak during Christmas season. It's not as bad in previous years only now they had become more daring and emboldened.

A bit spooky he would break in knowing the house was occupied. Also, the local police will do a lot of talking but likely wont take any action.
My two neighbors were burglarized. Also, my sister in laws purse was forcibly taken from her. In 2014 my phone was pickpocket by kids. I think a lot of crimes are unreported because the police don't do anything.
It's a horrible experience, it can effect family members quite badly, I'm glad that no one was injured, I suggest getting a small dog
In the province it’s happening there in Davao but I don’t think it’s gonna be happen there Davao too strick the law there
You didn't mention the most obvious security method, camera's? They should be all round the outside of the property and the first thing that should be done! 👍

Order a wireless WiFi TAPO security camera with night vision. Under $40 and you can set it up for night time AI alerts.
Get a loud barking dog.
I’m amazed someone would have the guts to scale an 8’-high wall and attempt to enter your home. What on earth would they expect to find inside your house that is valuable?😊
I’m glad you and your family are safe….do you have cameras or are you considering putting cameras up? Also will you get a dog once again?
I’m in Parang Maguindanao, you would have to get through a lot of Dogs and Bata’s in order to get into my Familia enclave.
That’s why we have dogs who wake-up and bark

Good to hear nobody got inside.

You need to purchase yourself a Bolo.
The reality is real, you think the grass is greener but you sir are very very deluded, you live around many many many poor folks
this is why filipinos own at least 2 dogs
