Imagine not even just MEETING Ray but even playing with him?? I could never. What an experience for these children and what extreme challenge they all have. This was amazing.
I think Ray respected the two younger violinists by playing properly. I would not have liked it if it wasn’t for real. I think the young and talented violinists were also very brilliant, playing pieces that they might not have seen before. So well done to all three.
The fact Yoeun considered skipping paganini 5, and did well when it was played! It shows its always good to make the attempt, you can learn from it and may do better than you think❤ They are both very brave and will surely be amazing as they continue to grow😊
YoEun is so good she can play La Campanella in her sleep. She's not only an inspiration with her violin, she's an inspiration with her kind heart. ❤ A truly remarkable young lady. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I respect Ray for not going easy on them. Perhaps they could have chosen some pieces from more contemporary repertoire from Korean composers to be more of a real sight-reading challenge?
Damn she was so stoic and so UNstarstruck by Ray's arrival on the set ...She's all business and unintimidated...BUT Ray was totally downplaying and only going maybe 66%, yet you can still hear the world class level there... The girl was technically unreal, even her musicality was beyond her years ...if she keeps up she can perhaps be Ray's level of World class soloist ... The other gentleman was excellent, he can join world class orchestra in due time
I thought sight reading was when you have never seen or heard a piece before. Ray not only knows these pieces he performs them. NOT FAIR! Love you Ray. Great playing by all three. Sweet ending.
While its true that he has played these pieces before, but its not like he has them memorized at all times. Even if its something he has performed before he still needs to practice it before he would go on stage and perform it. Which is why it is still considered sight reading
@@asdfasdfasf8 I can guarantee you he knows these pieces by heart. They are very standard repertoire. Most sight reading tests are semi-random groups of notes.
How was he able to sing while playing??? I’ve been playing the violin for some time now, but I can only sing a few notes along. With the piano, it’s easy to sing along, but not with the violin. Impressive display to say the very least. Props to the young musicians, who’ve outdone themselves!
All three were insane to play such difficult pieces; I don't think I could ever play the bowing in Paganini 5! I'm currently working on Paganini No. 11 (ruclips.net/user/shortsA37aLZjJ-dg) and I wish I could learn No. 5 in the near future!
I love the fact that Ray didn’t go easy on them just because they are kids. Ray knows that they are obviously talented and if he were to go easy on them it would be condescending to their efforts and skills at the violin.
Very talented and skill young violinist, how ever they should have use less known music maybe Orchestra excerpts, is not sight reading if it's the pieces everyone plays at some point, And Ray has matured most of them his Whole life.
Two very talented young musicians, letting rip with an acclaimed 'star', in a fun-filled yet very serious series of tough musical exercises! They did great! Ray, when he realised what the tune was he was playing at the end, the facial expression and the on-screen comment 'he's playing from the heart...' - was sublime. Very nice!
Art is the ultimate expression of a society or culture. Letting kids learn and express their skills is to be cherished. Promoting them in the arts is so rare that when we see it, it makes us cry
This was so fun and all the contestants played so well, and it was a riot when Ray broke out into song! Well done. More, please, and best regards from Detroit!
This is not sight reading but rather how well can you play a piece you learned but have not practiced recently? Still a rather impressive display from all of them!
most "i've never played music" comment ever. At that level they have played all of it, the "sight-reading" is how well they can flawlessly play the music from the sheet- also Ray isn't allowed to take artistic interpretation; which would hurt him when playing from memory. What you are saying is the equivalent of comparing computer programmers and saying "this guy wrote x code one time 10 decades ago so he can just bang out the same code from rote memory," it's absurd. Both ppl know how to code, and can recognize it; but, it isn't just stored in their memory perfectly like a robot.
Coding is not just “code”. It’s mostly problem solving. If the person has written it before, he has at least seen the solution which gives him a huge advantage. Ray’s emotion can only put into his play when he has done it many times before.
Ray Chen should already know how to play those pieces 😅 It doesn’t feel like a sight reading contest. It is more like “don’t play a wrong note” contest 😂 Nonetheless, he played them beautifully! ❤
You also have to take in consideration that Ray Chen probably has the most expensive violin out of the three, a world class musician like Ray has access to the best violins like a Strad or a Guarneri even if he can't afford it yet (through foundations), that violin tone is just incredible
Yea, it looks like a relatively new violin though. The responsiveness and the voice of that violin is a world above what the two kids have in their hands.
Yoeun, who plays so well that he can't believe he's young even though he's playing among adults, was so cool, and Leichen's instrument sounded so different that I felt so respectful, and everyone was so good that I couldn't believe he was playing it. If Yoeun had filmed with friends of her younger age, I think Yoeun's skills would have been clearly seen, but it was regrettable that she was mixed among adults.

어리다고 봐주면 나이 어리다고 무시하는 거죠.
원래 잔디는 밟아야 더 억세고 튼튼하게 자람 우리나란 아직 저런면들이 부족함 어리다고 봐주고 나이 많다고 봐주고 프로라면 나이 성별 상관없이 실력으로 봐줘야지

와... 현악기 특유의 찢어지는 듯한 소리 때문에 바이올린 소리를 잘 못 듣는 편이었는데 알못인 제게도 레이첸의 바이올린 소리는 듣기가 좋다고 느껴져서 신기해요....

When you've played something hundreds of times, your hands and arms kind of move themselves, and your brain is free to do whatever else.

Two very talented young musicians, letting rip with an acclaimed 'star', in a fun-filled yet very serious series of tough musical exercises! They did great! Ray, when he realised what the tune was he was playing at the end, the facial expression and the on-screen comment 'he's playing from the heart...' - was sublime. Very nice!

most "i've never played music" comment ever. At that level they have played all of it, the "sight-reading" is how well they can flawlessly play the music from the sheet- also Ray isn't allowed to take artistic interpretation; which would hurt him when playing from memory. What you are saying is the equivalent of comparing computer programmers and saying "this guy wrote x code one time 10 decades ago so he can just bang out the same code from rote memory," it's absurd. Both ppl know how to code, and can recognize it; but, it isn't just stored in their memory perfectly like a robot.
Coding is not just “code”. It’s mostly problem solving. If the person has written it before, he has at least seen the solution which gives him a huge advantage. Ray’s emotion can only put into his play when he has done it many times before.

You also have to take in consideration that Ray Chen probably has the most expensive violin out of the three, a world class musician like Ray has access to the best violins like a Strad or a Guarneri even if he can't afford it yet (through foundations), that violin tone is just incredible
Yea, it looks like a relatively new violin though. The responsiveness and the voice of that violin is a world above what the two kids have in their hands.

Yoeun, who plays so well that he can't believe he's young even though he's playing among adults, was so cool, and Leichen's instrument sounded so different that I felt so respectful, and everyone was so good that I couldn't believe he was playing it. If Yoeun had filmed with friends of her younger age, I think Yoeun's skills would have been clearly seen, but it was regrettable that she was mixed among adults.
