Hi Chris, These "blowouts" happen from trapped moisture or tiny inclusions in the clay that attract moister from the atmosphere. This may not happen if you ramp up the temp slowly which in this case I did not. Also the ground was wet and the pots may have wicked up a bit of moisture. I hope this answers your question! -Andy

I'm not as familiar with stoneware characteristics. Were the blowouts likely because of trapped moisture?
