I have them the other way around: UV coated Gan 11 and frosted Gan 12 Leap. I like them both actually, and I keep returning to them from the other cubes because I just enjoy that build quality. I really want Moyu to put some more work in that: get rid of those sink marks and make the part seams really tight. My WRM Maglev - which I also like a lot - has gaps in all the edges and one faulty magnet. I perform the same on basically any current cube from RS3M 2020 to Gan 12. So it all comes down to the feel/look performance. I don't like Gan 11 or 12 for slow solves, but they are great for fast turning. So stable and fast. I lock up very rarely, probably because I'm used to very fast cubes and light turning, so I just don't hold the cube too tight, and it aligns itself and stays aligned really easily.
yeah moyu isn’t perfect at all either, they have quite a few things to up their game on, however the actual performance of their cubes is fantastic and they’re priced reasonably (or these days they’re priced cheap as hell) so i don’t feel the need to go as hard on them

I don't feel the need to go hard on any cube manufacturer :) I'm glad Gan exists as it is. After all, no one makes people buy such and such cubes, so it's great to have a choice of prices and different quality and feel.
I have the Gan 11 M Pro and a limited edition of the same. They mostly sit on the shelf for reasons you showed. I also have the WRM maglev and RS3M Maglev with extra magnets added to the latter. Both are excellent but for me the WRM would be perfect if they made it in a 56mm version with a super glossy UV coating and with either a stronger magnet setting or ability to add extra magnets. The RS3M with extra magnets feels great, though doesn't feel as engineered or float as well as the WRM. It's hard to choose between them but that 1mm makes a big difference when I'm solving to me so the RS3M is my go to cube :).
i actually think pvc coating would solve the problems of surface texture and size on your wrm maglev. pvc coating makes the surface of the cube much grippier, and the exoshield overlays are roughly half a millimeter thick which would put the wrm maglev at 56mm. pvc coating _is_ pretty expensive, a pvc coated wrm maglev would likely cost around $50 total, although that’s still $30 cheaper than the gan 12. as for the magnet strength, yeah moyu really should’ve put stronger magnets in it, and unfortunately aside from completely disassembling the cube and swapping the magnets in the capsules, nothing can reasonably be done about that
I recently got the 11m duo during black Friday for 20 bucks. I think my main issue is that it is too light for the magnet strength it has. If the pieces had more weight to them, it would probably not feel as bad to start a turn, but currently, the magnets feels very jarring. When I do a long session on it I see why people like it, it has a very characteristic feel! But thats not enough imo. I wish I could lower the magnet strength but if like you say there's barely a difference I won't feel bad about having the duo haha. Also can't wait for purple worm review
Next thing we know, gan releases the 13 and the flagships gonna probably cost about 75 pounds ( 90ish bucks) and its probably gonna be no better than a wrm. I also like how you prove your point by using an rs3m. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that cube. I myself also have it although having nothing to compare other than a rubiks brand it to, is fairly good
I agree with everything you said in this video, great job! GAN is getting worse and worse, and it they prey off of the gullibility of younger cubers. I went to a comp a few days ago, and literally everyone was maining a gan cube, even though they were constantly locking up, and turning awfully. Moyu has now become the best brand for 3x3s now.

I have the GAN 12 Maglev, and it’s a really good cube, it’s really only for people who have lighter turning, which is me, and if you do not care about the price, go for it, but if you have more aggressive turning, go for these cubes: WR M 2021, WR M 2020 WR M 2021 Maglev, RS3M 2020, RS3M 2021 Maglev. These cubes are more forgiving for their turning, and they are no where near as much as the gan cubes, also I previously mained the GAN 11 M Pro and I noticed that it catches more, I think that is because I got a bad 11 M Pro and a good GAN 12, because my 11 can’t even cut 45 degrees, like crimsons XS, but my GAN 12 can cut over 45 degrees, so yes I do think it is like a reroll for getting a good GAN cube. In conclusion, if you do not care about the price and if you have light turning, go for the GAN 12, but if you care about the price, go for the cubes above.
I got a gan 12 as a cube to get back into the hobby since abandoning it more than 9 years ago when I bought a 15 dollar speedcube that I think was best at the time. At that time I basically left after getting the beginner method down and learning basic f2l. Now I decided to get back into the hobby and learn cfop properly and stick around, try to inprove slowly over time and get different kinds of cubes since I never touched anything besides the 3x3 and 2x2. So to celebrate this I decided to get the best of the best and, after some research here on youtube the gan 12 seemed to be my best bet since it has cool innovations and features and whatnot. Personally I think the cube is really great, it doesn't lock at all compared to my old non magnetic speedcube that feels extremely sluggish now after using the gan 12 for two days. And it made learning full pll, the part where I'm at right now, really fun. Like I absolutely love doing the T and F perms on it. Now I jeed to just get N V Y R and G down and I'm good to go. The cube is really fun but I do hope gan will lower their prices down tho with future releases since it seems every other cheaper cube does the same thing as them so at some point no one's gonna buy anything from them. When I finish learning full oll and get more advanced with the cross and f2l and start getting faster I might opt to get something different like the wrm maglev if I don't like the gan 12 anymore.
it’s always great to see people getting back into cubing! you’re right, the gan 12 is far better than an old cube (im assuming the dayan zhanchi), but so is just about every other cube on the market now. i made this video to prevent this exact thing since new people getting into (or back into) cubing can get led down a path where they are led to believe that this cube is the best one just because it’s the most expensive when it really isn’t, and the same results can be achieved on much cheaper cubes. i just went to a cubing competition this weekend and 2 of the 3 cubers on the podium used the rs3m 2020 which is $9. i talked to them about it and they have plenty of other cubes to choose from, it’s just their choice to use that cube because it suits them

i feel like gan is just making flagship cubes with high prices just for their brand like for example apple (no hate). apple and samsung phones have the same quality and features but apple is a lot more expensive because of their branding (my opinion)
I think the main problem on Gan is their cube is light weight.For me,When I used more heavy cube like Wrm 2019,the cube was very stable.Weight = Stable for me.I have 356M but I don't like light weighted cubd and also Guhong V4m.It's more reliable if the cube has a little bit weight.The one thing I like in Gan cube is the feeling of the cube,I hope moyu makes like honeycomb design.I think that's the only one to make a perfect cube ever from Moyu
a lot of people agree with you, but a lot of people would disagree. i think it’s important to separate opinions from facts, since a lot of people prefer lighter cubes and/or don’t like the feel of gan cubes. also, gan’s honeycomb design doesn’t contribute very much to the cube overall, it just helps lube last longer and spread around easier. moyu _does_ have textured pieces on the wrm 2020 and 2021 though. also from what you’re saying here i think you should try the wrm 2021 maglev. it’s on the heavier side (although not as heavy as the wrm 2019), and the hand feel is actually pretty similar to a gan cube.
uv coated gan cubes have worst reverse corner cutting than regular frosted gan cubes because of the extra layer of uv coating. (I tested this with the frosted and uv coated 11 m pros) The uv coating just adds durability but lessens the actual performance by a small but noticeable margin. So, based on my aggressive turning style, I'd buy the frosted 12 maglev instead of the uv coated one or the leap because the leap has a little more friction because of the springs. Edit: The uv coated gan cubes also are less grippy and sweat/lube gets stuck onto the cubes surface makes it even more difficult to turn because of the extra slippery surface.
The outer layer of the cube is coated with uv only it doesn't affect corner cutting moreover uv coated cubes are more grippy that is the other part of what the uv coating does also the uv layer is very thin as I said above no way it makes corner cutting worst
My experience with gan is kinda mixed. Got an 11m pro and I CAN NOT find a setup on that cube that I actually like, even though I have so much cubicle lube. But I also have an X v2 and I love that thing. It’s just nice, smooth and fast and I’m maining it. I think what gan should do is put core magnets on their old design instead of continuing with this weird new design
well the problem i see is that you’re not using speedcubeshop’s lube instead /j yeah, a lot of people prefer gan’s older flagships. i think you could potentially mod a gan x to have corner/core magnets but that might take a lot more time and effort than it’s worth. also if you think the gan 12 will suit you, go for it! but again i’d recommend waiting until it goes on sale since the price is ridiculous, whether someone can afford it or not.
Update on the 11: it took a lot of break in but it finally sped up. I’m using weakest magnets, screw 3, spring 2 clicks, it is decent but corner cutting is still wack and it doesn’t handle agressive turning well at all.

Great video Crimson! I like these 20 minuteplus videos so much, they provide a lot of information! I like Gan cubes, but if you have rough turning or don’t like strong magnets they are not usable. My main right now is the Gan 12 Maglev, but the Wrm 2021 is a very close second (if not tied with the Gan).
gan cubes are expensive, because all of earlier features that we see on cheaper cubes are invented by gan, they are paying for all designers and people who work on inventing new cubes, when other companies just copy gans designs so it's cheaper overall that doesn't change the fact that you pay shitton of money for a brand too
I have a theory on why every Gan cube that released after the XS has been awful (minus the 11 which is still decent in my opinion.) I think the main issue is the plastic core. It’s a lot less sturdy than the core from the X and the Air series. This results in the core being more flexible, which might cause some sort of corner cutting issue. Along with this, the Gan springs are overly loose and compressing them does basically nothing for stability. Align with this, the plastic is incredibly thin to the point it breaks after only a couple months, especially on the center caps pieces. (Similar to the Guhong v4)
I still think the best gan release has been the X because it actually felt like good quality. It was really silent, low pitched, could corner cut more than the gan 12, and it was really smooth. New gan cubes feel like it's all marketing and the fancy box. I haven't tried the 11 so I can't really say how good it is
The thing is, you should by a cube that suit you, not about the price, more money doesn mean better, for me gan 11 suit me but gan 12 magnets are rediculous, uv coated also give me better grip

I’m using the 11 m pro. I feel like what I paid for it was excessive. I got it on a sale so it was $40. I absolutely love it, however, it was not worth the price. It feels really cheap for what it is
I disagree with some of what you said, here are my thoughts: Yes they are expensive, but they found that the customer has accepted those prices, because they consider themselves pioneers in the market. I think people are smart enough to decide if they think GAN cubes are worth the price. Also people are not just using Gan cubes, because they are sponsored. Tymon recently got sponsored by GAN because he started using them. Also people like Max and Feliks have used them for years, which proves they actually like the cubes, because contracts typically last a year. I think GAN cubes are nice, but I also found that they pop more frequently than other flagships, which is why I uploaded a vid where it poped on turn 1 of a solve. Overall I think you are too harsh on the puzzles and I think you are thinking more in terms of getting great return on investment, which is totally okay, but since you don't like the feel of them too you bash them too much imo, there are still plenty of good and average joe's who like GAN
i definitely get what you’re saying here, and thanks for being mature and super constructive. people obviously are willing to pay these prices for these cubes, otherwise gan wouldn’t make money. however i think that the price itself _is_ a selling point to some people whether they realize it or not. i think if gan cubes were priced the same as other flagships, fewer people would buy them because the price gives an illusion of quality or superiority which really isn’t there, and i think that’s really misleading. that’s why i’m so harsh on them, i want to educate people on the fact that these cubes aren’t significantly better than anything else on the market, and they won’t improve your times, and in some ways they’re actually inferior to cubes that are far cheaper. as for sponsored cubers and such, i think a top level speedcuber can perform incredibly on any cube that doesn’t just straight up suck. i was even performing pretty well in the solves at the end of this video. i just think people give the cube too much credit in those cases, and then go out and buy these cubes because they think they’re “the best” when in reality they’ve probably just got a huge sponsorship budget (probably thanks to the crazy margins they make by selling these cubes at these prices)

Yo Crimson! Big fan. Just wanted to say I’ve had the same issues with Gan, starting with the 11 M Pro. Here’s what I found out though: It took literally a thousand solved until I liked it. Same with every other Gan I’ve had. After a stupid amount of break in and proper setup, I freakin’ love it now.
I think gans peak was the gan 356 x. Even though it was expensive, it was still pretty much the best cube on the market. But now gan is super overpriced and worse than MoYu or x man cubes
I have a seriously cheep price gan cube. Think I paid 8 bucks. It's the small 3cm one..... I Also have a 3yesr old gan cube the one with removable magnet capsules. Might be 2 years old. I never use it. I'm still solving on a valk with magnets in the caps.
This video is true about the price (at least for me ) but not for the performance. I have the 12 but it never catches like yours and can corner cut just fine if I adjust it. However, this video might be true since my friend's 11m pro locks up more than my 12 and I might have gotten really lucky and gotten one that can corner cut but almost all of your statements about gan are very true. MoYu is the new best brand now that the super RS3Ms have come out. But I still believe the 13 Maglev will still sell well but sooner or later Gan cubes will stop selling. Sorry for my bad English.
Try the moretry tianma v3, is like a gan 12 but better, as it can actually corner cut and doesn't catch and it is almost one third of the price. I don't think you're gonna like it because it has strong magnets, but it's pretty much a better gan 12

I like that im able to adjust everything very well to what i prefer because if i dont like something a little bit and im not able to is just just a no for me. Also you seemed a bit biasad (no offense) because you didnt like gan cuibes before but i think your not optimally using the magnet settings and it seemed you were going a bit more aggresive on the gan cube but ofcourse when you are used to something else it will always feel kinda kinda better But still for the price I really dont get it why like the corner cutting isnt the greatest its better on the 13 but for me the 12 feels smoohter to turn for some reason. Thats why i still prefer the tornado for its price but i defiintely dont dislike the gan cubes

i feel like gan is just making flagship cubes with high prices just for their brand like for example apple (no hate). apple and samsung phones have the same quality and features but apple is a lot more expensive because of their branding (my opinion)

I think the main problem on Gan is their cube is light weight.For me,When I used more heavy cube like Wrm 2019,the cube was very stable.Weight = Stable for me.I have 356M but I don't like light weighted cubd and also Guhong V4m.It's more reliable if the cube has a little bit weight.The one thing I like in Gan cube is the feeling of the cube,I hope moyu makes like honeycomb design.I think that's the only one to make a perfect cube ever from Moyu
a lot of people agree with you, but a lot of people would disagree. i think it’s important to separate opinions from facts, since a lot of people prefer lighter cubes and/or don’t like the feel of gan cubes. also, gan’s honeycomb design doesn’t contribute very much to the cube overall, it just helps lube last longer and spread around easier. moyu _does_ have textured pieces on the wrm 2020 and 2021 though. also from what you’re saying here i think you should try the wrm 2021 maglev. it’s on the heavier side (although not as heavy as the wrm 2019), and the hand feel is actually pretty similar to a gan cube.
Moyu started to use dragon scale designs on their maglev skewb, I think they might use it for their wrm 2022.
uv coated gan cubes have worst reverse corner cutting than regular frosted gan cubes because of the extra layer of uv coating. (I tested this with the frosted and uv coated 11 m pros) The uv coating just adds durability but lessens the actual performance by a small but noticeable margin. So, based on my aggressive turning style, I'd buy the frosted 12 maglev instead of the uv coated one or the leap because the leap has a little more friction because of the springs.
Edit: The uv coated gan cubes also are less grippy and sweat/lube gets stuck onto the cubes surface makes it even more difficult to turn because of the extra slippery surface.
The outer layer of the cube is coated with uv only it doesn't affect corner cutting moreover uv coated cubes are more grippy that is the other part of what the uv coating does also the uv layer is very thin as I said above no way it makes corner cutting worst

My experience with gan is kinda mixed. Got an 11m pro and I CAN NOT find a setup on that cube that I actually like, even though I have so much cubicle lube. But I also have an X v2 and I love that thing. It’s just nice, smooth and fast and I’m maining it. I think what gan should do is put core magnets on their old design instead of continuing with this weird new design
And btw I also have the corner cut issue on the 11. The only “setup” I like I clean out all the lube, but then it can’t cut 45
I am planning to get a 12 though because as far as I’ve heard, it fits my preferences and I have the financial capability

yeah, a lot of people prefer gan’s older flagships. i think you could potentially mod a gan x to have corner/core magnets but that might take a lot more time and effort than it’s worth. also if you think the gan 12 will suit you, go for it! but again i’d recommend waiting until it goes on sale since the price is ridiculous, whether someone can afford it or not.
Update on the 11: it took a lot of break in but it finally sped up. I’m using weakest magnets, screw 3, spring 2 clicks, it is decent but corner cutting is still wack and it doesn’t handle agressive turning well at all.

Great video Crimson! I like these 20 minuteplus videos so much, they provide a lot of information! I like Gan cubes, but if you have rough turning or don’t like strong magnets they are not usable. My main right now is the Gan 12 Maglev, but the Wrm 2021 is a very close second (if not tied with the Gan).
gan cubes are expensive, because all of earlier features that we see on cheaper cubes are invented by gan,
they are paying for all designers and people who work on inventing new cubes, when other companies just copy gans designs so it's cheaper overall
that doesn't change the fact that you pay shitton of money for a brand too
I have a theory on why every Gan cube that released after the XS has been awful (minus the 11 which is still decent in my opinion.)
I think the main issue is the plastic core. It’s a lot less sturdy than the core from the X and the Air series. This results in the core being more flexible, which might cause some sort of corner cutting issue. Along with this, the Gan springs are overly loose and compressing them does basically nothing for stability. Align with this, the plastic is incredibly thin to the point it breaks after only a couple months, especially on the center caps pieces. (Similar to the Guhong v4)
I still think the best gan release has been the X because it actually felt like good quality. It was really silent, low pitched, could corner cut more than the gan 12, and it was really smooth. New gan cubes feel like it's all marketing and the fancy box. I haven't tried the 11 so I can't really say how good it is

This is off topic, but you should get your YJ mgc 2x2, take out the springs, and put it in the Valk 2. It makes it way faster
What I do to most of my mains is cut the stock springs to make them shorter. That makes the cubes go way faster.

I’m using the 11 m pro. I feel like what I paid for it was excessive. I got it on a sale so it was $40. I absolutely love it, however, it was not worth the price. It feels really cheap for what it is

I disagree with some of what you said, here are my thoughts:
Yes they are expensive, but they found that the customer has accepted those prices, because they consider themselves pioneers in the market. I think people are smart enough to decide if they think GAN cubes are worth the price.
Also people are not just using Gan cubes, because they are sponsored. Tymon recently got sponsored by GAN because he started using them. Also people like Max and Feliks have used them for years, which proves they actually like the cubes, because contracts typically last a year.
I think GAN cubes are nice, but I also found that they pop more frequently than other flagships, which is why I uploaded a vid where it poped on turn 1 of a solve.
Overall I think you are too harsh on the puzzles and I think you are thinking more in terms of getting great return on investment, which is totally okay, but since you don't like the feel of them too you bash them too much imo, there are still plenty of good and average joe's who like GAN

people obviously are willing to pay these prices for these cubes, otherwise gan wouldn’t make money. however i think that the price itself _is_ a selling point to some people whether they realize it or not. i think if gan cubes were priced the same as other flagships, fewer people would buy them because the price gives an illusion of quality or superiority which really isn’t there, and i think that’s really misleading. that’s why i’m so harsh on them, i want to educate people on the fact that these cubes aren’t significantly better than anything else on the market, and they won’t improve your times, and in some ways they’re actually inferior to cubes that are far cheaper.
as for sponsored cubers and such, i think a top level speedcuber can perform incredibly on any cube that doesn’t just straight up suck. i was even performing pretty well in the solves at the end of this video. i just think people give the cube too much credit in those cases, and then go out and buy these cubes because they think they’re “the best” when in reality they’ve probably just got a huge sponsorship budget (probably thanks to the crazy margins they make by selling these cubes at these prices)
@@CrimsonsCubes I mostly agree, but I haven't been able to get other cubes feel as solid as the Gan 11 M pro and I don't think fewer people would buy GAN if the prices were cheaper, because they still look premium, which is what people chase more than the pricetag itself.

Big fan. Just wanted to say I’ve had the same issues with Gan, starting with the 11 M Pro. Here’s what I found out though:
It took literally a thousand solved until I liked it.
Same with every other Gan I’ve had.
After a stupid amount of break in and proper setup, I freakin’ love it now.

This video is true about the price (at least for me ) but not for the performance. I have the 12 but it never catches like yours and can corner cut just fine if I adjust it. However, this video might be true since my friend's 11m pro locks up more than my 12 and I might have gotten really lucky and gotten one that can corner cut but almost all of your statements about gan are very true. MoYu is the new best brand now that the super RS3Ms have come out. But I still believe the 13 Maglev will still sell well but sooner or later Gan cubes will stop selling. Sorry for my bad English.

Try the moretry tianma v3, is like a gan 12 but better, as it can actually corner cut and doesn't catch and it is almost one third of the price. I don't think you're gonna like it because it has strong magnets, but it's pretty much a better gan 12

I like that im able to adjust everything very well to what i prefer because if i dont like something a little bit and im not able to is just just a no for me. Also you seemed a bit biasad (no offense) because you didnt like gan cuibes before but i think your not optimally using the magnet settings and it seemed you were going a bit more aggresive on the gan cube but ofcourse when you are used to something else it will always feel kinda kinda better
But still for the price I really dont get it why like the corner cutting isnt the greatest its better on the 13 but for me the 12 feels smoohter to turn for some reason. Thats why i still prefer the tornado for its price but i defiintely dont dislike the gan cubes
