- Just in time for your Mardi Gras prep! Join me and Derek as we eat and play our way through New Orleans!
Derek and I visited NOLA for the first time in December 2021 and LOVED IT!
We used our Hyatt free nights to stay at the category 4 Eliza Jane Hotel. From there, we walked all around the city visiting the National WWII Museum, The French Quarter, Riverwalk, Jackson Square, and more!
Plus, we tried beignets, hurricanes, hand grenades, creole food, and more!
AND it was so fun to hang our with our friend Eric from @TravelAdventureswithEricB !
If you’re curious about New Orleans, I hope you love this video!
Cheers, and happy travels!

The WWII Museum accepted my father's war memoirs recently for their archives.
That’s incredible! Congratulations! 🎉🎉
I was born and raised in New Orleans. It makes me so happy to see people enjoy the city I grew up in and was born in.
I’m so proud of New Orleans and I thank you for your video.
My dad worked at Higgins building the D-day landing craft for the invasion. I was always proud of him for that.
You bring back great memories of my city when I see your video. Thank you and I’m glad you enjoyed New Orleans.
Wow, that's so cool to hear that your dad worked on the Higgins boats! Definitely something to be proud of. I'm really glad to hear that you enjoyed the video, since it's your home town! 😀
I’ve been o your city 6 times and I love it their
New Orleans looks likes a fabulous city to visit, I love all the old architecture and that hotel was exactly the type of place I would normally book. I love a repurposed historic building, hotels can be same old same old, but if they're in historic buildings they have so much character.
Yeah the fact that it used to be a printing factory was incredibly neat! They had some of the old machinery dotted around the hotel as decoration, plus some newspaper themed wallpaper in the halls. Such a great touch! We would absolutely stay there again 😀
I did the same drink route and both are delicious and I’m visiting for the first time. Thanks for a really helpful video.
So fun! Definitely great to try them both when you’re in New Orleans! 😁 Glad you liked the video!
You had me at French Truck Coffee. I'm obsessed with their coffees. Nothing else comes close. Also, did you try Deannies. I'm new to your channel, and I love New Orleans. I've Been there many many times sometimes twice a year.
Yes the French Truck coffees were soooo good! We didn’t try Deannies! What is that and should we add it to our list for next time?? 😀
OMG I booked the Eliza Jane before seeing this video and now i'm even more excited! Looks so beautiful! thank you for the fun video!
So cool! You're going to love it! When is your trip?
the end of October!!! eeek even more excited to be there during the spooky season 👻@@MeansToTravel
D'oh Beignets!! I love that Cafe Beignets that had dough that was doughier!! I'm craving a beignet right now ;-)
They were both good but Cafe Beignet was each of our faves! Soooo good! I bet New Orleans is a fairly quick flight from Dallas for you guys?
@@MeansToTravel probably! I went there MANY years ago for work, but haven't been in ages. Ian went there once, but he drove there to do hurricane cleanup with our church group.
@@MagentaOtterTravels sounds like you guys should maybe plan a quick trip to go together someday, and just have fun and eat all the yummy things!
It's nice to see you guys in a vlog. Harriet and I have been to New Orleans many times. Even during Mardi Gras. For us it's the Gumbo. You touched on all the sites to see. Pastries from the
great traditional cafes (Cafe Beignets) . Doesn't get better. Thanks, Guys, for a wonderful video. Love Ya. 🥰🥰 Harriet, Jim and Yuki , Richmond, Va.
So great that you’ve been able to visit many times and celebrate Mardi Gras there! Hopefully we will be able to say that someday too, because we really enjoyed our time in New Orleans and would love to go back! 🙌🏻😀
Perfect timing y’all! I’m headed to New Orleans in just 1 week. 🎉
That's awesome! You're going to have SO MUCH FUN!!!
Well, did you go? What did you do and how was it?
I realy love this special place. Thanks for the four day tour.
My pleasure! We love visiting New Orleans, too! Totally agree that it's a very special place in this world. 😀
Fantastic vlog,really enjoyed.
Thanks so much Eric! So fun to have you join us for a day!
Looks amazing there and the food at Ruby Slipper looks yummy ✨🌟🙂

So glad you enjoyed it!! Are you planning a visit to New Orleans soon? 😀
@@MeansToTravel in April:)
We love going to New Orleans. We could vlog here for days and days! We need to get back there sometime soon to actually vlog it! Great work guys!
Thanks so much and thanks for watching! We hope to get back there, too! Fingers crossed you can make a return trip soon!!!
New Orleans one of my favorite places in the world would love to visit one day!
I hope you will too! It’s such a fun city!
Derek the K*U*K. Bravo!!! Nailed it
I’m not familiar with your slang - what does that mean?
I love travelling with you two!!! New Orleans is high on my list of places to visit. My parents went there on their first date (a blind date!!) The culture, history and food looks fantastic! Can't wait to see where you're off to next! 😊
Yay thanks so much for watching, Anna! That's so cool that your parents went there on their first date - what a great story!!! 😀
That breakfast was huge, Derek!
Haha I agree! No surprise he didn't end up finishing the whole thing!
I’m going in July! Thanks for a good quality video! Gives me a great idea of what to expect when I go! The review on the hand grenade and hurricane were perfect as I’m looking forward to trying them but wasn’t sure how sweet/strong they are!
So glad you enjoyed the video, and hope you have a great time on your trip!! You should try both drinks and let us all know which one you like best!
Those biscuits and gravy looked legit! Yum!
Haha he devoured them!!! 😋😋😋
@@MeansToTravel I could go for a plate of that right now...
@@MagentaOtterTravels yummmmmm! 😀
Hello beautiful friends thanks for sharing your travel escapade to this fabulous place huge like
Thanks so much for watching this vlog! 😀
What a place , would love to visit one day
You’ll have so much fun if you get to go! 😀 Thanks so much for watching!!!
I grew up there and I forget how fun NOLA can be. I currently live near Memphis TN but haven'tventured out much, so if you ever come here I'd love to explore with you!
Yes, NOLA is such a fun place! I'd be curious to learn more about what growing up there was like!
Derke and I drove through Memphis in early 2021 (it's in one of our old vlogs), but we only spent a couple hours there. I'd love to go back and visit and hear more live music. 😀
Interesting information about the World War II museum in New Orleans, it must have been fascinating. At first I thought that the museum was in New Orleans in an effort to decentralised where museums are (similar to what they've done in the UK) so it was interesting to hear it was because of the landing boats being constructed there. I enjoy military museum (I have no military background, maybe I've just written one history essay too many relating to WWII!) and one of my favourite museums to visit in London is the Imperial War Museum. (That covers a number of different conflicts)
Surprisingly I haven’t visited that museum in London so I’m absolutely going to add it to my list now! Thanks for the tip, and glad you enjoyed our vlog! 😀🙏🏻
Loved this video! Thanks for the recommendations! Visiting next month + I'll be staying not far from the French Quarter. I have a car rental booked but after a bit of research, IDK if i'll even need it. What do yall think?
So glad you enjoyed the video!! If your plan is to just explore in the city center AND you'll be staying near the French Quarter, I definitely think you could get by without renting a car. Derek and I had a fun and easy time walking around, riding the trams, and taking ride-shares.
@@MeansToTravel Thank you so much!
Wicked!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks so much for watching, Kevin!
Love that Derek is still wearing the SCOTLAND face mask!
Haha yes, he actually purchased a 2nd one on Amazon after the first one wore out because he loves it and it’s been a fun conversation started over the years!
@@MeansToTravel absolutely!
@@MagentaOtterTravels You should get a UK flag one, haha!
You talked about why the WWII Museum is in New Orleans. You were close, but a little bit off. NO was home to the D Day Museum due to the Higgins boat. After Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg filmed Saving Private Ryan, they became more interested in WWII history and discovered that there was no national WWII museum in the USA (and no national monument, but that is another story). They brought additional attention and eventually money to the issue and it was decided to expand the D Day museum. The expansion is still in progress with another building being constructed. Great museum, going to it again in May!
Hey Rick - Sorry, I'm confused if you're saying it's a technicality? The National World War II Museum is the same thing as the D-Day Museum. It was called the D-Day Museum when it opened twenty-two years ago, but the name changed in 2006. Either way you say it, I agree it's SUCH a great museum and I'm glad you're going back soon! 😀
love the video. just a heads up if you order the hand grenades in the smaller cup its 2.50 cheaper and holds same amount. was told only tourist order the large glass and you are marked as an easy con like " i bet i know where you got your shoes!"
Such a good tip, thanks so much for letting us know! Next time I’ll get the smaller one 😀
Thanks for that tip, I'll try that in April
Team Cafe Beignet!
Team Hand Grenade!
Haha sounds like we have similar tastes! Thanks so much for watching!!!
Who was your tour guide? Did you use one or several? Going in May.
We booked the French Quarter tour with Free Tours By Foot (you pay a tip to the guide). Our guide was a local and super knowledgable! Highly recommend doing that during one of your first couple days of your visit to get your bearings and learn about the culture. Hope you enjoy your trip!!
Have you seen the vamps? Are they still there?
I’m not sure!
I’m curious, your video shows to only be a few weeks old, yet I see a lot of face masks. Are masks still required?
We recorded in December 2021, so I think a lot has been lifted since then! 😀
