2015 Toyota Avanza - Review

The best-selling compact MPV or Multi-purpose Vehicle, the Toyota Avanza finds itself in intense competition thanks to new entrants in the market. And yet, Toyota is confident enough that it’ll remain the preferred choice in the segment because of its latest revamp.
In the spirit of Always Better Cars, Toyota has improved and refined the Avanza inside and out.
Starting out the enhancements is a new family of engines that offer more power, improved fuel efficiency, and enhanced levels of NVH for a more comfortable driving experience.
The Avanza remains with a gasoline-fed 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. The 1.5-liter 3SZ-FE produces 102 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 136 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. This engine is available with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.
Together with the new engine, the Avanza gets a refreshed look, especially at the front with an expressive new grille, reshaped headlights, and new design for their alloy wheel which retains its 15-inch diameter. The rear doesn’t change much as the tweaks are limited to the new brake lamp clusters.
Inside is where it gets the most noticeable difference. For one, it feels more sophisticated with its new dark brown interior scheme. Next, the instrument cluster has been updated with new graphics including a helpful Eco indicator that coaches the driver to achieve maximum fuel efficiency.
Furthermore, the infotainment system is now a GPS navigation ready unit with a 2-DIN size. Finally, it offers more flexibility with the addition of a 50/50 split-tumble third row.
Aside from these cosmetic and creature comfort enhancements, the Avanza also gets a fuller list of safety equipment. Dual SRS airbags are now standard as are ISOFIX child seat anchors. The 1.5-liter model gets anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution.
With a new palette of colors including the new Nebula Blue Metallic, the all-new Toyota Avanza is indeed a standout in the MPV crowd.

Actually the new 1,5 liter engine with dual VVTi produce a bit LESS power than the old one with single VVTi. And its the least powerfull 1,5 liter engine on the market except for the one in the Nissan Almera. So hopefully the fuel consumption is at least improved a bit. I am quite underwhelmed about, what this car deliver for the money. All the alternatives in the segment, Honda Mobilio, Chevrolet Spin and Suzuki Ertiga seem to be better choises. So maybe it really is time, that more people start to look past the badge and look at the actual product being offered instead.
