Well, considering the angle, this would most likely mean they had to get a platform into the waterway behind the machine. The machine is already leaning as it is on the waterways' bank. More distance between entry point and machine would have been impossible. It could also be it's technically impossible: at some point anything will give if you push it hard enough. Could very well be that's the case here as well (don't forget, Dutch clay is notorious for being hard to excavate)
