Everyone loves a C64 repair 👍🏻
The more are saved, the better!
Never apologize for bringing a 64 back to life.
It will never get boring to watch your repair videos.
Boring? Speak for yourself I love watching these repairs.
Sure, Jan is completely wrong about this. His care and dedication with those babies are always lovely watching.
I always find it useful and entertaining to try and guess the C64 faults, there’s always something interesting to be learned from Beta’s Broken Breadbins!
Every C64 ever made, seams broken with sooooo many RUclipsrs repairing them.
Bryce keep your mouth hole closed, more C64s have been repaired on youtube then where even built, so why don’t you explain that one to me son. alternative universe c64? Or is it we are being duped for AD clicks.
Bryce where are all the Apple IIe repair videos? Nowhere because Apple fans are not duping us!
Watching your RUclips videos is never boring, keep on restoring Commodore computers, we all love it
Love a good C64 repair, there is always something different
Well I’m bored… of not having enough C64 repair videos! Well done!
Never apologize for a C64 video.
There’s nothing boring about your videos, it’s always good to see another machine fixed no matter how hard or easy it is. Keep’em coming 👍
Never be sorry working on old electronics. You can learn something new, always. We love it!
No such thing as a boring C64 repair Jan! Your enthusiasm comes across in the videos. Great stuff as always.
No it will never get boring. The Boring company is boring, but not C-64 repairs. Bring them on! I could watch them all day!
keep them C64 repair videos coming...gotta love the Commodore C64..too many great gaming memories!!!
Boring? Never! I don't think I've physically touched a Commodore 64 since I was in grade school but between you and Adrian Black I am reasonably sure that I could diagnose and repair one!
Half an hour with Jan Beta? Never Boring! Always nice to see a 'good friend' from time to time. :D
Never apologize for making a C64 video. They ae always welcome.
I would prefer to use a pull up resistor on the address line and only 2 wires to the switch. That way if the switch breaks, the address line doesn't just float.
Welcome to everyones favorite segment: *C64 repair*
Not boring at all -- keep 'em coming :)
Awesome I love boring c64 repairs 😅😅🔧👍
that keyboard looks like its been on 40 marlboro a day since 1983 lol
The original PLA was a Signetics N82S100.
Yet another enthusiastic comment for a C64 video! Yeah! Keep it up! More C64! MOAR!
My favorite videos on your channel are the repairs and builds. Love it! :)
This was awesome Jan. I love watching these!
Definitely never getting bored with C64 content. This is actually how I discover your channel. Great job Jan!!
Never boring. Just keep them coming Jan! :D
I may have a few to repair myself soon :) It's always good to see repair videos, there is always something to learn from them. I have debated doing my own a few times, but I am not really very good at videos, and there would be far too much swearing in them :D
Always nice to see another Commodore 64 fixed, no matter what the problem is :)
Next year will be Commodore 64's 40th birthday, so it's good to see as many as possible still working.
There probably aren't too many of them left in this world, as probably many of them were recycled or ended up in landfill during the time, when it was thought that they have no value anymore.
I quite enjoy these videos - it teaches me things!
Always good to see a C64 repair
Ghosts'n goblins, gioco leggendario!.un bel lavoro al C64,peccato solo per il case ingiallito, pazienza.ottimo video
You keep the Commodore Spirit Alive!!
Your video's are never boring sir.
Thank you very much!
C64 repairs are *never* boring! You could be cleaning a smudge off it, I'd still watch.
This is part of why we watch this channel, we love it!
Ha, my kids started out with a Vic 20 and my son made a working Blackjack game in about 4 hours. Then the next year the got a C64 back about 82. My daughter never much cared for them. My son has been a Software Engineer since 86 and has never looked back. These old timers were a hoot for their day. 👍 The only issue we had in the long term were the power supplies.
Love each and every one of these!
Ich habe dieses Reparaturvideo sehr genossen, Sie haben es repariert, das ist ein Ergebnis!
Just picked up my first ever C64! I have a video of it coming out next week, my first attempt at turning it on to see if it works. It was advertised as untested when I bought it...
Actually watching a bunch of these it gets fun to try and guess what's wrong this time.
Keeping the old systems alive.
Never boring always something interesting. Hey its another C64 that gets to live another day for someone to enjoy. How many computers approaching 40 yrs old still get love?
Your joking of course Jan. I love a good C64 repair, and your the best at it!
Love the C64 repairs
Niemals langweilig! Never boring! Can't get enough! 😁👍
I loved it, most interesting, thank you very much!
It never occurred to me until now just how weird it is that, in English, we call a black screen a blank screen, when blank comes from the French “blanc”, meaning white.
Interesting - perhaps because of white paper?
@@krnlg Yeah, I figured that was why. I meant weird for English learners, or particularly French speakers. Imagine you're French, in English class, and you hear "blank" means literally the opposite of what you thought.
Not boring, I enjoy watching repair video.
C64 repair !!! This is why I subscribed to your channel, that and the odd audio equipment repair :)
Check the beginning of your video, the keyboard cable was plugged in backwards. Thanks for the c64 video love them.
Hi Jan, C64 Reparaturen sind nicht langweilig, ich habe einen Brotkasten und einen sx64 und ich hoffe das ich die nicht reparieren muss 🤞, tolles Video 👍
No such thing as a boring repair. You do great vids!
interesting video as usual!!! Thks!!!
I prefer adding both kernals into the same Flash or EPROM (twice as big) instead of switching between two different physical PROMs.
The advantage to a one chip solution is that the switch can be simpler (if using a pull-up or pull-down resistor) and affects only the msb (most significant bit) in the address lines of the PROM... essentially the state is _static_ , the address bit either remains high or low and the "pull" resistor means that, if the switch is disconnected, then the kernal select is still stable.
The issue with using 2 smaller PROMs is that now the signal being switched is _dynamic_ (eg an actively chaninging CE or CS line) and so has a longer circuit length (2 wires and the switch) than normal. This can bring timing closer to an unstable point in the timing between CS/CE, addr setup and data-bus and cause issues.
Cheers,
13:49 - Year, WOPR! from WarGames. Loved this Movie.
Not boring, enjoying it.
Another one saved :)
I loved my C64 but now I REALLY love my Ryzen 7 5800H with RTX 3060 gpu! Peace and C64 forever!
Still going to watch
A repaired Commodore 64 is a healthy one saved from the e-waste.
Yet another boring C64 repair? Bring it on!
As a Swiss I was absolutely disgusted at this non-standard use of the Swiss knife.
Heresy !
BTW C64 repair cannot be boring.
Don't they use massive ones to defend the pope?
3:56 ... fingers crossed!!!!! never forget!!!!
Most UNboring and quite useful for those of us who also might need to fix our stuff. Gives some good hints on what to look for & try.
Relaxing, not boring.
There are no boring C64 repairs! :)
C64s are never boring ! :)
With that kind of yellowing that c64 shows some spirit and also sign of age, wear and tear :)
I think when you find where you put the keyboard loopback adapter (presuming it's an original) you should see if you could figure out a schematic for it, so people could build their own.
Not boring, relaxing.
haha that is the worst title to attract viewers. I love the c64 repairs!
Martin! Your gear was found!
NOT. BORING.
Boring? BORING?! HOW DARE YOU SIR! The Gall!! The Unmitigated Gall sir!! I thought I knew you sir! Hraumph I say! HARUMPH! (Love the videos BTW! :D )
Never boring!!
Definitely not boring. Any of these are cool to see and for me, none of them are simple.
I have a Vic20 now (as of some months ago) which I thought was gone ages ago, it's actually the same one I had as a kid, my Dad found it recently in his attic above the garage where it's been for many years and been through some hot summers and cold winters up there. I haven't tried to fire it up but I assume it's toast after years of extreme temperature swings. The keys felt pretty stiff to press in :/ I think it only has an rf hookup anyway so I'd have to get a different cable to even try it out.
EDIT: Oh, forgot to mention there was also an Atari XE in there and that might be the stiff keyboard I'm remembering. That one I don't think was an rf hookup I could likely give that one a shot if I dig it out.
You should set up a retro computer museum.
I would watch even if you fixed a toaster. Every experience is a new chance to learn.
It works! Yay?
That outro :-D
Someday they will all be repaired and then what? Games and productivity software I suppose. I am not bored.
I. Love. Fixing. C64s.
Hello is this c64 diagnostic rev586220++ can be downloaded or I have to buy it? Is it possible to put it on easy flash3? If legal download is possible where I can find it?
1983 MOS Technology manufactured ICs, doomed to fail due to a now known manufacturing process defect.
@Jan Beta - can you please explain why red on C64 is not red but brownish? Also yellow is not exactly yellow.
speaking of......I think I may have damaged mine. I'm trying to replace the cartridge slot since de-oxit was no longer working. I got the top half of pins desoldered it very very finicky. Then I started on the bottom half. My back was sore as hell. And like 3 pins in I think I noticed a damaged trace. I'm like dammit!! I can bodge it, but DAMMIT!!!! Anyway next weekend I'll try to finish it. I started trying to remove the metal shield. I gave up on that. My cheapo iron can't do it. Hopefully I can finish without further damage. I also need to fix my PSU. I used a MIDI cable for power. It can't carry enough power with my U2+ plugged in. Thankfully I got around that by external power to the U2+. I have a replacement cable. I got it from a guy that sells PSUs. I think his is the nu-brick. If not it's the re-brick. Either way I can tell the cable is better. The SID is still good though!!
Broken ROM switch + using the keyboard = vibration. Potentially using the keyboard was causing the broken ROM switch to make/break contact causing the issues?
The biggest issue of this machine to me was to see how the Commodore-badge has been pierced through "right in the middle". I mean, the case is pretty big, why couldn´t they figure out just any other spot ?
Maybe the defect switch was the issue?
Try setting changing the switch during normal usage.
Where did you get The Bear Essentials T-shirt??
8:48 I had to do a double take... it's weird hearing a German describing something broken as being "cactus". It's such an Aussie thing to say. 😅 🇦🇺 (I'm still not bored with C64 repair videos btw)
Hello can you help me how can i solve sound problem
Unfortunatly my c64 does not have a sound
i would also check the orginal powerbrick... (maby he did off-camera...)
Gday
sys64738 why i can still remember it stuff knows
cheers
It can never be boring when it's about a C=
What is considered an "Accident" at Casa del Beta? I saw you are 84 days without one.
I have a silver label C64, with ALL 82 labeled chips, and ceramic VIC2 from Signetics, but I don’t have the time to work on it….
Does it run now?
That was more boring than I thought... ;-) No, tbh I like tinkering with those individually modded systems. Trying to identify what those mods are supposed to do and such.
There cannot be to many C64 repairs! :)
I was not bored
Love it More...
Where is the Jan Beta SpeedDos :-) mod ?
