I have been using a 7000 wide row that had been narrowed up. It belongs to a friend of mine. When he went to trade it in they wouldn't give him anything for it so he kept it for planting sweet corn. Then they told him that it couldn't be narrowed. Well it was made with welders and torches, it could be changed with them too.
For the most part even planters that size don't pull hard to need big high horse power tractors. Mostly nowadays larger tractors are used because of the higher hydraulic capacity needed and higher number of remote outlets
No they don't pull all that hard. The main reason to put an 8000 series tractor on it is for stability. They can jerk a tractor around pretty good on uneven ground. I guess he'll find that out if he puts it on one of those 6000/7000 series tractors
Hey Wes, 2023 will be the first year for me farming, I'll be the first person in my family to farm since atleast ww2. I'm excited, I've picked up some cheap equipment. Still on the hunt for a tractor but I have a 4755 and 4020 available to borrow when I need them.
It’s not power thats needed, it’s the weight that’s needed to pull it. There is a lot of weight way back behind the tractor. With my Kinze planter I have negative drawbar weight when it’s in ground planting. You can have a dog that wags the tail or you can have a tail that wags the dog.
Looks like a nice planter! Be sure to watch the wing hinge points. The bushings are more prone to crack and break on the non NT frames, especially the 24 rows. The bushings are getting weak if drive shaft starts rubbing on vacuum mounts. Happy planting and hope 2023 is good one!

Wes, check out precision planter solutions for parallel arm bushings, they have the best idea for those and makes them wear years longer than regular bushings. Did them on my row cleaners and kinze 2300

Put the RK products(?) closing wheel arm bearing kits in. Its cheaper than new arms I believe and its the last time you will have to mess with them. The 7810 will pull it but your front end will be light when folded and you will be maxed out on hydraulics. It will run the vac fans fine but it will lift extremely slow, especially when loaded.
