Synopsis
Upon returning to Edo after three years, Nemuri Kyōshirō (played by Tamura Masakazu) finds himself amidst a shogunate dispute over the proposed marriage of the Shogun's heir, Tokugawa Ieyoshi (Wakayama Kiichirō). The shogunate's senior counselor, Sakai Nobunari (Watabiki Katsuhiko), favors Akiko (Mikan Ryou), daughter of Regent Kujō Michifusa, and plots to poison Kaoru (Takeda Kyoko), the candidate supported by shogunate advisor Mizuno Tadakuni (Itō Takao). Kyōshirō encounters Mihoyo (Takeshita Keiko), a woman resembling his late mother, only to discover she is Sakai's spy. He resolves to thwart the poisoning plot. However, Mihoyo becomes a target for both Sakai and Mizuno, leading Kyōshirō to conceal her in Mojizuka's (Ikegami Kimiko) residence.
This drama, marking the second series installment featuring Tamura Masakazu as Kyoshiro, showcases an elaborate production style akin to a special effects spectacle. A notable episode reveals Kyoshiro's backstory, where his emotional outpouring at a self-made gravestone starkly contrasts his usual reserved demeanor. Takeshita Keiko's dual role as Kyoshiro's mother and the spy Mihoyo is a dramatic highlight, demonstrating her acting versatility.

such a sad and poignant tale of Kyoshiro. Perhaps that's what makes it his identity. unable to love and not allowing any woman to love him fear for their misfortune. feel sad for him. Masakazu san who played Kyoshiro really didn't age from the first one. hopefully, I get to see the complete drama on this one.

The original Nemuri Kyoshiro died during the middle of this series..This guy took over..
Sort of . The original Nemuri was Tsuruta Koji who made 3 films in the 50’s , Raizo Ichikawa came next and is the best and most famous Nemuri .
He died after the 12th film and was replaced by Matsukata Hiroki for the last two films .
Katoka Takao headed up the first Tv series for NTV and lasted for two seasons . Tamura Masakazu took over the role for the Fuji Tv series which is also 42:36 two seasons with 5 Tv movies the last being in 2018 .
This is one of the very best! Magical and sad. No wonder all ladies fall in love with Kyoshiro, he is stylish, he's got a good heart, contrary to the popular belief, and he is incredibly handsome and powerful! Love it! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟:)

I got through an hour of this fiasco. It's got to be the poorest Nemori Kyoshiro movie ever made. I much prefer the old ones with Raizo Ichikawa. Why I can't find them is beyond me?

You can see in these 2 NK movies that TM has little sword skills as his sword action is not exhibited as opposed to Raizo ichikawa who was trained in Kabuki and swordsmanship.Anyhoo these 2 movies are excellent though the surreal nonsense at the end fails to add anything t o the movie.
