    Fun fact: Ostapenko became the first player since Gustavo Kuerten to win a first career title at a Grand Slam tournament. Also notable, Kuerten won his first title at The French Open the day Ostapenko was born.

    If you were to update the list the new no 4 would be Iga at French open 2020 (no 54) and 2 would be Raducanu at US Open 2021 (Ranked 150)

    Clijsters had no ranking heading into the US Open 2009, she played only 2 tournaments before that (Cincy and Rogers Cup)

      I think there must be something in the seeding that means that if you can beat one good player then you have an easier time to the finals. 15/16 must be a sweet spot.

      @@aaronusernamefiller9435 Well I think the idea is that 15 and 16 play number 1 and 2 in the 4th round. The idea is to give 1 and 2 the easiest path to the final so that they play each other. But if you can beat one of those guys (big if), then you get to take their comparably easier road the final.

      True. Both her and Henin should kick themselves for retiring too young, not once but twice. They were both incredible athletes.

      @@sds2954 Henin didn't retire too early, injuries plaged her. Her comeback was an initial succes at the Australian Open but quickly she got injured again and lost in the 3rd round of the Australian Open the year after, this was her sign it was time to stop.

    That Wimbledon final from 2005 was amazing and outstanding 3hours match of consistent power and unbelievable accuracy, really one of the best womens finals! From this list Sharapova's win at Wimbledon, Ostapenko's win and Serena's trashing of Maria in 2007 AO were fantastic performances! Regarding Clijsters I always found her pathetic for not being able to win GS much earlier, she desintegrated in couple of her early GS finals, but well done to her for finally making it happen, very much deserved it!

    The title should be changed to say “lowest ranked FEMALE” players. Clijsters was UNRANKED when she won her U.S. Open. You forgot to put on this list Goolagong (was Unranked when she won Australia in 1977), O’Neil (#111), B. Jordan (#68), Barker (#18), and Ruzici (#17).

      Halep plays nothing like Henin. Henin had so much variety in her game, while Halep's only strategy is to have engless baseline rallies and grind. She can't hit a slice to save her life.

      Regulus Arcturus I’m just stating that because Simona has said she tries to model her game somewhat off of Justine and Halep can become crafty when needed her serve is somewhat dominant like Henin and her backhand she can hit winners out of nowhere just like justines

    sharapova was so short when she first won as u can see here. then later she grew a bunch , over 6 foot.! then her volley, serve , everything her whole game fell apart.

      @@marcellejames2941 she did but her game was modelled accordingly. if u watch her earlier matches. she had the best serve (better than serena) reminiscent of sampras, came much more to the net. was much more compact and speedy.

      Marcelle James sharapova was seeded #13 but ranked #15. Henin and Clijsters missed 2004 Wimbledon so Sharapova was able to go up 2 seeding spots.

    Is this WTA only? I guess the ranking is probably quite laughable, thus frequent "upset" are seen during tournaments.

      WTA players are inconsistent, but also because they play 3 sets instead of 5 sets. Luck plays a bigger role for WTA than ATP. Having said that, Big 3 are very consistent and there are very little upsets.
