  • This is the long format video of my 2007 Honda XR650R transforming to a street legal dual sport. If you like hanging out in the garage working on stuff, this may interest you. Anything I do to this bike will be basically the same for most dirtbikes so you can do it yourself if you like. I did not buy a kit, I pieced all my own stuff together the way I wanted it.
As usual, I post videos if I don't find what I'm looking for and feel I can be helpful to others. When I was looking to dual sport my bike, any videos out there just didn't quite show the parts I needed to see to be confident in tackling this project. With a lot of research, I was able to put it together in a way that makes sense (at least to me).
Here is the list of everything I used from Amazon. It does not include the speedometer that I got from Ebay, you can use any Honda speedometer from any bike with a 21" front tire, many people get a smaller one from a 250. It also doesn't have my normal crimping tool I've had for 20 years but I did buy a bullet connector crimping tool. Also, the headlight assembly I've had for a very long time also. So here's the list.

Can you make a video explaining and showing in depth how you wire the battery to charge?

@@jaenoma3839 I am doing a stator upgrade right now, we can go into detail soon. As far as this one, I used the two wires going to the rear OEM light as my two AC input wires to the reg. the other two are just the battery connectors. I used a simple 4 wire regulator to make life simple. You can see all the parts I've used on this bike on my Amazon list. a.co/ct4oRVl

Great details. I have an Africa Twin and was wondering is this the right bike to complement the Twin.
Do you mind sharing What year it is and How much you had to pay for it?

It's a 2007 I bought it brand new. I paid 5k OTD brand new. Used bikes in good condition will be 3500 to 5000 right now. Compared to the Africa, this is light and nimble, but still very powerful. I like to say I have the king of Baja and the king of Dakar in my garage. I did have a cr250 as a super lightweight bike just to round off the collection but I just stopped riding it so it got sold. These two bikes do cross over a bit in what they do but also cover all types of riding I do so at the moment I'm complete. I'm in Southern California so the XR is made for high speed desert riding which is perfect, that's almost all we have.
