  • step 11 - Backing up data
Again there is a lot of confusion and false info, about how to backup your precious data. This is not difficult to do correctly, you just need to be shown one way that works well, runs on a schedule and only backs up what's really necessary.
There are many ways to backup a PC, and there is one built right into windows 8 for your convenience, it's called “File history” and a very easy way to automatically backup your precious data on the PC! This will back up everything you do on your computer “on the fly”. So you don't even have to think about it, every time you add data to these folders, it will be backed up.
Before you start using File History to back up your files, you need to first select where your backups are saved. You can select an externally connected drive, such as a USB drive, or you can save to a drive on a network. There are other choices, but these two provide the best options to help protect your files against a crash or other PC problems.
File History only backs up copies of files that are in the Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, and Desktop folders and the OneDrive files available offline on your PC. If you have files or folders elsewhere that you want backed up, you can add them to one of these folders. Setup time 5 min, runs on autopilot!
