Metal detecting is such a fun hobby and there is always more to learn and discover. One thing I've learned since posting this video is to avoid taking even a small, 36" shovel into a public park. For my park digs I now ONLY use a small hand trough or a hori hori knife to cut plugs. I wasn't aware of this practice when I first posted this video. You won't find "Don't use a shovel to dig in a park" listed in a "Metal Detecting Ethic Lists" but the concept of "no trace plug digging" is something that is increasingly encouraged. I'm sharing this so that others might learn from and avoid my mistake. Hope you enjoy and happy digging!

Nice video and history lesson on the area. Keep it up, having just picked up a Simplex as well, I am interested in seeing videos of others using one.

This was fun! You got a fair mix of pieces. The personal items are always my favorites because I wonder about the stories behind them. We watched a program on one of the British streaming channels called The Detectorists, about a group of friends who like detecting. I think you'd enjoy it if you have some time on your hands this winter.

Thanks Celeste! Yes I’ve heard of that program but have not yet watched. On my list!

I find this oddly fascinating Rob! I just want to keep watching to see what will be next.
When I am out photographing I use a strap for glasses. It makes it a bit easier.
