Again you have nailed it George. I’ve finally got the look im looking for. I would love to see how u graded that drone clip at the start of your tutorial. Keep the tutorials going it’s well appreciated
Im subscribed and im waiting for the next tutorial ! I have a suggestion about look development , why don’t you try to make a tutorial for us about achieving the same look with different levels of grading , sometimes with primaries simple monochromatic adjustment , sometimes with curves ,other times with other tools, just in sort to let us map the different ways to achieve a specific look. Im glad i stumbled upon your channel and iam a great fan of yours , thanks for simplifying beautiful color grading 👋😉
I do not understand how George uses solely serial nodes and still has excellent results! My educated guess is the footages she deals with are 10-bit. I work with 8-bit because my one and only best imaging device is Canon M50. Images from it are certainly shitty compared to its newer rivals at similar or lower prices, but that camera is what I can afford to pay. With that said, I think 10 or 8 bits is irrelevant because most other colorists have exceedingly convoluted node structure and still they say it is the ONLY node which people need. Oh My Phucking Gad! To add insult to injury/-ies, many of them explain things as convoluted as their node structure. For example, George mentions how mask works simply (within less than 20 seconds), me as a n00b I instantaneously understand. Some other people explain the same thing using 10 minutes. I may be exaggerating but there are people doing exactly that. You could find RUclipsrs spending so much time 'teaching' how to copy and paste in Windows operating system, someone got fed up of it and made a few seconds clip showing how to do it. (I have deja vu that I said this before! Never mind that. Some things are worth mentioning anyway.) I completely and totally understand there are people that like that style, otherwise those RUclipsrs will not be getting that many subscribers, likes, etc. I am all for technicalities but not confusing-ly and time-wasting-ly. Great video, and it convinced me to invest in your PowerGrade and Kodak 2383 LUTs. In the PowerGrade, I’ve added a Shadows node to the compound Highlights node. In your video, you invert the Highlights key for your Shadows node to soften the shadows. But doesn’t this select ‘everything but highlights’ rather than ‘just the shadows’? Should I be doing something in the Shadows node rather than just inverting the highlights qualifier? I want to make certain I’m adjusting the shadows in your PowerGrade in the right manner. I learned so much from this video, and I’m certain I’ll make use of the PowerGrade for most of my footage.
You don’t need to do anything else in the shadows for the shadow softening effect I showed in the tutorial. The matte node adds a selection that is most prominent in the shadows and gradually decreases as it goes into the midtones and highlights. You could create a more precise selection of the shadows using the qualifier tool if you would like to.
@@george.colorist your PowerGrade is fantastic! Here are a couple of recommendations and observations. 1) In the Highlights compound node, I have added the Shadows node, as I think I will use this compound node for both highlights and shadows like you did in this video. 2) To use the skin indicator, you have to disable both the Film Print and Look Lab nodes in order to see all of the indicators. I think your video mentioned just disabling the Film Print node. 3) In the Skin node, maybe default to 10bit rather than 8bit, in that I think most users will be 10bit? 4) By default, have the IDT and ODT nodes disabled, as I believe most are using color management in the project settings? I'm definitely standardizing on your PG. Best I have seen yet!
@@george.colorist One additional request...I your LUT files, it would be helpful to insert a comment as to the input and output color spaces. For example, looking at the comment, I would be able to tell that a LUT is for DWG input, and DWG output. I always check this for any given LUT to make certain it applies to the color space I'm working in. I'm surprised at how many LUT providers don't put this in the LUT file. Just a suggestion.
Right click on whatever node you’d like to create a matte node for, go down to Add Matte, select the name of your clip. You don’t have to create a new matte node for every node, you can take the output (blue squares on the right edge of the node) and connect it to any node input (blue squares on the left edge of the node.)
Dude, great tutorial. So well explained and actually useful additional information. Smashed it. Keep going.

Thanks Davie. I graded it with the exact same technique from this video. Color and contrast. That’s it.

George, I bought the K83 Kodak 2383 Cinematic PowerGrade, but when I go to add it to the video, the LUTs appear offline, why?
Make sure the LUT folder is labeled correctly. Check the included manual for the instructions on installation.
@@george.colorist It worked out!
I am a noob where I can start from your videos because I don't understand the process. Thank you
When I connect the Matte node it automatically desaturates my footage unlike in your tutorial
How did you create the matte node?

Thumbs up
hey George. I just purchased this PowerGrade but when I'm trying to open the film lab the Davinci is crushing. any idea why this happened ?
Yes. It seems the Film Look creator is causing the issue for some. Delete the new Halation 2 node to see if that resolved the issue.
I will be releasing an update soon to resolve this issue. Thanks for your patience and support.
@@george.colorist when I go to look lab and press show compound node , Davinci is closing every time so I can't delete the halation 2
