  • A commissioner at Victoria’s Indigenous-led truth-telling inquiry has accused representatives from Australian churches of a 'shattering silence' on steps towards redress for its past injustices.

    Speaking at the Yoorrook Justice Commission, Commissioner Tony North KC says that while he heard 'acceptance of the truth' around past injustices, he found silence on actions to redress them 'saddening'. North also said what was 'often lacking in the evidence of the state ... was any commitment to actions apart from policies and frameworks and pieces of paper'
