Wow thanks for that tip. It all makes sense now. I have the option with Magic Lantern firmware to ramp my exposure in camera by 0.001EV but for some reason it wasn't working as it should, instead jumping by thirds despite my settings. Now I understand I should have set my camera to B instead of M. I am going to try that out. Thanks for being so helpful.
great work, i'm very impressed with your day to night time lapses. do you use a deflickering software to remove the flicker from the fluctuating shutter speeds?
I just read your post. Its sounds very good. I have a question though, how smooth is the promote control ramp in reality? Do you really not have to do 'any' post processing to smooth out the ramps in exposure at all? If yes, does that mean that the control is allowing the camera to take smaller exposures steps than 1/3? I am currently experimenting with LRTimelapse 3 so that I can edit my ramps on the RAW files rather than the exported video files. Its a little complicated but i'm learning.
I currently use the magic lantern hack for the 5D mk2 for the manual ramping. But the ramping flicker is terrible. Haven't quite mastered the exact equation for EV ramp per shot. I might consider the 'Lightroom Timelapse 3' Plugin to remove and smooth the gradient ramp in the RAW files. Seems like a good purchase. Thanks for the reply
Geoff, would love to have a pint of beer with you in Sept if you are in London. On a technical note, I'm looking for an Intervalometer for an Olympus camera that allows you to shoot faster than 1 frame per second. Any possible direction you can send me? Thanks.
I can only imagine all the time and hard work it took to make this!
