    Good video. Wow $70. Sounds like a real luxury pump filter. . I'm using a $7 one. Also discovered that the filter provides plenty of aeration without needing an air bubbler. Anything that moves the surface of the water is what does it. It's interesting that the air bubbles rising in the water aren't what the fish breathe. It's the surface agitation that adds the air. So either an air bubbler or filter will do that. Just that a filter does double duty, so its an easy choice.

      @@colonmills6075 Im just using a small aquarium pump filter. Most of what I see on the market is really inexpensive.

    Hey I made mine out of an old working deepfreezer. Used bucket filter and 2 bulkheads. Both come out of the side of it. Top one filters down to bottom of bucket. A pipe goes down to bottom and comes back up a little over half way and returns filterd water back into tank. Had bait in the tank minus what we used over 5 months. 600 gallon HF pound pump. Did have to replace pump one but got extended warranty. Freezer came off face book market place $40.00. Pump $35.00 bait by the lb. $20.00= 19 dozen minnows bucket has lava rock and 3 buffer pads in it. Follow RUclips Main trout whisper video. Filter set on a shelf above tank bout 2'..it works for me ..Good luck with the new filter system

      I saw his video a long time ago! It's a good one! I was going to use a deep freezer but I just don't have the room in the garage (and allow access from the top because of the heigh) or I would of went that way for sure. I had a bucket filter (like you described) and it worked pretty good. Mine leaked a bit and i didn't feel like messing with that or moving it each time I got bait. I just wanted to make the setup more compact, self contained and have easy access to bait. I got the stock tank for $10 at goodwill and the filter I used a gift card to buy. I also have a few pool cover pumps laying around the house so If I need backup I have them. Thank for watching Gus and Happy Fishing!

      So minnows in bulk are roughly $1.00/dozen? Not bad. When I buy minnows by the scoop they are about $3 but I get about 3 dozen in there without buying them in bulk. So about the same price as you said.

    How are you cleaning your bio box filter. Meaning do you just pull it up out of there by the power cord or what. I'm building a 300 gallon tote tank so it will be hard for me to reach down in there with my hands to grab it. It's like I would have to pull it up by the cord after pulling the PVC pipe off the top of it. What do you think?

    • @CatfishandCrappie
      @CatfishandCrappie  Год назад

      The power cord is attached to a pump in the box which is not attached. So I would not work in a tank as deep as you're building. This filter might not have enough volume to efficiently clean 300 gallons. Hope this helps! Good luck!

    Got a question, i have a artesian well and temperature is around 55 degrees year round could i use it to aerate my 100gal tank and have the overflow go into my pond,do you think that would work for minnows?

  • @robertchapin3683
    @robertchapin3683 3 года назад +1

    You could always paint the inside of the tank white. I'm sure there's some nontoxic marine paint available.

    How long do u keep the bait alive in there between fishing trips? Also what do you feed them?

    • @CatfishandCrappie
      @CatfishandCrappie  3 года назад +2

      Hi, I go threw bait pretty quick. If I’m feeding them I can keep them alive for weeks. Remember if the water gets to hot that will effect the life span too. Using “Better Bait” helps. I swap water every 3-4 weeks too depending on the amount of bait I have been putting in there. Hope this helps.

    You could cap the end of the pvc and make it into a spraybar.
