This area is only 2.4 kilometres square. Very tiny and mostly for first world foreigners to get a subpar replica of home but still very much 3rd world slum vibes. Philippines is a very poor and underdeveloped country. According to the world bank, 37% of the population still live in slums as of 2020. With a gdp per capita (PPP) of 11420 in 2023, which is only half of the world average of 22226, making it one of the poorest countries in the world. Majority of the population eat refried chicken bones from the trash known as pagpag.

Finders keepers. So watch out with your belongings,be careful. You're really lucky if someone has found your phone or wallet and return it to you. Take care Mana.*

That rule depends on the location where the gadget is lost. In schools, malls, and other such closed facilities, it may be returned thru the lost and found service of the building. There more kind people in those areas. However, in streets and other open facilities, it can be harder.

I found an Iphone in the US, and I picked it up just recently, that theme isnt anywhere near exclusive to PH, and I am sure it can happen in Japan, and your phone would be gone also, a valuable item is a valuable item no matter where you go, and the "finders keepers" logic will apply no matter what.

Hi Mana, nice to hear your phone was returned to you. Not all us Filipinos are like that. We still make effort to look for the owner of the item if it has a name or ID. A couple of weeks ago I myself returned a company ID and Yubi Key to a Call Center Agent working in BGC. With a help of my former colleague who's office is near to the owner. Kudos to the honest people 👏🤩🥳

By saying: "Not all of us Filipinos are like that", it makes it seem like somebody had tried to steal her phone .... But it's really just a case of her forgetting to bring her own phone before leaving a place.

BCG or or other high end places in PH is the best places to lose an IPhone. And just like in any other tourist places in the world, everyone has to watch their belongIns. As to low end and crowded areas lin PH , like Quiapo or Divesoria., One has to be has to be. iPhone is also the best expensive phone to loose because it has many security features like facial recognition, double identification protocols and finger print identification. With ICloud in IPhones you can always retrieve pages from your own ICloud address and with insurance, the IPhone if lost can easily be replaced with an equivalent new iPhone

You know that losing a phone or personal belonging cannot be blamed to others and can never be filed for a case in the Philippine Police Station or Courts, or even in other countries as well. It is one's responsibility to keep and secure personal belongings, unless if stolen or forcefully taken from you. I am just so happy and proud that the Filipino staffs and the restaurant itself are with honest and kind-hearted people. Keep safe. Enjoy Philippine life.

If I can give a tip in learning tagalog is this, pronunciation is key. I know in japanese there are moras where every syllable/character is pronounced the same length. In tagalog, some syllable tend to have longer, shorter, and/or a bit more stressed than other syllables. So you might hear the same word but pronounced differently in turn changes its meaning as well. Look out for those words.
    For example:
Paso = Pass, passage, path (as in Pasong Tirad/Tirad Pass)

Yes, there are good and kind-hearted Filipino, we all know that, but in some cases like losing a phone, wallet or everything that is valuable to the hands of some greedy people, you might have the slightest chance of claiming it back because they already have that: own it, or sell it.

actually, you were really really lucky it was found by restaurant staff, if it was lost in a random place and found by random people, it is unlike for you to get your phone back, just want to let you know the harsh reality in Philippines, be more careful now with your valuables

Mana, you should have a copy of your files on google drive, dropbox, or any cloud storage.. Not all the places in the Philippines are safe.. Don't go to old Manila, it's unsafe there particularly in Quiapo and Divisoria.. If you need to go there, just don't show your iPhone while strolling around, there are snatchers in those places.. I'm glad you retrieved your iphone.. Take care Mana.. We love you.. ❤
