      @MrSprinkles1F369 Not only it was well explored at the time but it was so explored that during the 90's, researchers started thinking that neural networks were a deadend. It was only during the 2000's and advancements in GPU making that neural nets became viable.
      Lessons to take out:
      1 - don't let anyone tell you your field is solved or a deadend
      2 - be thankful to the gaming industry for financing the development of GPUs

    The skateboarding tangent was good - its also perfectly describing the "hacker mindset" of "How can I use this in ways it wasnt intended/to my needs". A curious way of thinking is the root of creativity in general.

    Absolutely continue tangenting into skateboarding. It’s a really good metaphor for progression in general whether it’s skateboarding or computer science. It really puts into perspective why a kid getting on a skateboard in 2024 is able to progress at such a higher level than a kid getting on a skateboard in 1992.
    The same can somewhat be said for programming, at least what you’re able to accomplish given the same amount of energy.
    I also respect the Gonz mention. He was/is absolutely incredible.

    • @ImCurrentlyNaked
      @ImCurrentlyNaked 3 месяца назад

      I believe people think he's 'problematic' because he was a pretty hardcore monarchist and also big on keeping the empire (the colonies). He was also something of a war hawk, wanting to start a fight with Russia because he felt communism was bad, and given many's political affiliation these days, I wouldn't be shocked if they somehow find that insulting.
      He also spoke his mind freely, so I would be shocked if there's one or two things he said that people over inflate and judge him for.
      So yeah, essentially what the guy above said, Churchill was a man of his times and he was not perfect. and therefore must be denigrated by the perfect sinless people of this era (ha!).

    The Nvidia F You moment worked. I read the other day that Nvidia was release drivers for newer GPU's as Open Source. Everyone makes such a fuss about Linus' bad behaviour. It's no such thing. He is from Finland. I have learned from decades of living here that Finns speak little but when they do it is direct. None of that ever so politely talking around an issue just get to the point, state you can and move on. Nobody is offended by it.

      @Heater-v1.0.0 3 месяца назад

      @@itzhexen0 What kind of nonsense is that? You do know that 99% of right thinking people are wrong. Including yourself apparently. You are wrong because: 1) Linus was not talking about users he was talking for developers.
      2) The Linux kernel (open source) devs must have spent hundreds of thousands of hours making sure the closed source Nvidia drivers worked smoothly in their OS. Quite successfully. The opposite of "can't do anything".
      3) Things would have progressed much more smoothly and easily if the Nvidia drivers were open source. Beneficial for both Nvidia and the open source devs.
      4) Nvidia effectively leeched off the free work of said developers.
      Hence the "Nvidia F You" moment. Just Linus's way to ask Nvidia to be more cooperative. For the benefit of both.
