Love seeing a Romani song trending all over social media but I saw so many people confused what this song says or even the language, and even google has nonsensical lyrics for it. This is a Romani song from Slovakia in the Lovari dialect and this is what he is actually saying, translated by your local Romani guide (yours truly).
My favourite music is always gonna be traditional music mixed with contemporary elements -- and what is more traditional for a group in diaspora than "Let's dance and drink, because we're here!"
I’m Indian, and hearing this is really weird. It’s like Italian or something mixed with Hindi. “Aaji shami ma pivau “, anyone in North India can understand as “Tonight or this evening, I or we are going drink”, “Maanga some thing mukte piyau” is I want/demand someone? Drink. Extraordinary, considering the Romani left India nearly a thousand years ago. Even our languages weren’t in the form they are today.
what a banger!! im a sucker for traditional singing mixed with contemporary elements and lyrics. it reminds me a bit of the brazilian forró genre in a way -- it started out as the music of the lower class from the drylands, where they sung about their struggles, but has evolved to contain many electronic elements and varied lyrics while still retaining the original spirit. thats why i love the song you showed i think -- even if its quite modernised you can hear the cultural elements in it, especially in the singing. if you dont already have a video about romani music (both traditional and contemporary) i would love to watch one!
That improvisation was FIRE 😮🔥 Seriously! What a beautiful culture ❤ Thank you so much for educating us on your lovely culture. I’m so sorry that your people have been forgotten for so long…..but I know that your videos are leaking a BIG difference!
You said in an earlier video that this style of vocal improvisation is similar to African American scat singing. I heard claims that the Romani people were occasionally used as forced labor in the South (then again, it was from one of those TLC shows), so is it possible that Romani laborers working alongside African Americans influenced that style of singing.
Cheers cousin! 🍾🍷 I hope you know that your energy helps to create alot of happiness for people. You elevate the feeling of cultural pride through your thoughtful & informative posts. Beautiful soul, Blessings to you!💖
Florian, you are a beautiful person inside and out, your eyes are amazing. Im from brazil and we have a huge community of roma here, i wish you could see how roma are in different countries, i think if you search for ciganos dançando you'll see many from here, its beautiful
@@florida.florian Interesting. In a lot of indian languages too, khel (play) is also used in context of dancing. In Gujarati, for eg, you say Graba ramwa (dandiya khelna); (Garba, dandya being the folk dances from western india).

Hi Florian! I'm a Bangladeshi living in Finland. I could understand some words of the song because I know Hindi. I became very interested in Romani culture after seeing Finnish Roma ladies in black skirt. They are called "kale" here which sounds very derogatory. Because in my first language (Bengali), "kalo" or black is historically and culturally often used for colorism. And I think in Hindi, "kale" also has similar negative connotation. After seeing Finnish Roma ladies, I googled and found your channel. Learning a lot from you. Thank you so much!
India has got NOTHING to do with hiNdi 🥴 dunno what's with some foreigners & their ignorance. Hindi is a mere *new* made-up Language, full of arabi Irani words ( even though some 🤡 say, sPeAk hiNdi for iNdiAn pRidE ). If one wants to learn the soul AND origin of Indian languages, learn the Holy Sanskrit.
OH MY GOD IT SOUNDS LIKE GUJARATI A LITTLE BIT bro said “arre” at the beginning of one of the lines which is an interjection often used in Hindi as well
