Keep those tips coming, they should really help me in a couple weeks! Can't hardly wait to fillet some mangroves and try a method out on some mackerel. I want to see if they will skin about like a freshwater trout. If so cleaning time will drop immensely.
Excellent demonstration of how to rig it and rock it on the Skyway Pier. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Yes, I'd enjoy a Spanish Mackerel catch and cook for sure. I like to eat them, fresh is always best, a new recipe would be awesome.
I see that guy all the time. That's literally ALL he does! He snagged my line a couple of times in the past. I have seen him cast right over people. But nice vid man! Simple but very effective technique.
That is a shame, he was definitely casting on top of us. I was about to say something and then he smacked a car and he walked down the way. Common courtesy isn't very common anymore.
Went out yesterday to the Skyway and used this technique and had success with the Spanish Mack's. The bait was thick, the drive over from Orlando was painful but it was a beautiful way to spend the day, while fishing a different technique and 'acquiring the the targeted species' with it, thanks for sharing!
Another great knowledgeable!!! Spanish Mackerel are pretty good in my opinion. A catch n cook video would be dope, too!!! I've smoked n grill Spanish before n it was delicious
I'd love to see your recipe for cooking Spanish mackerel, Josh. And that's a great reminder about casting too, I also use the same way as yours when casting spoon.
Let’s see the recipe chef! Been fishing the skyway a lot lately but I’m usually targeting snapper. Stocked up on these supplies after your last video though. Gonna try to get after them tomorrow or Thursday before the storm this weekend! Thanks for the tips!
Great tips! Thanks for responding to our request for this video. And yes...a catch and cook would be awesome. One request...could you include how to fillet the mack as well?
Wow!!! That's a big dent on that vehicle. You can hear the thump as he tries to cast 😁. Great video bud. I'm definitely going to try the upward fling cast. When i fish for Stripers i tend to use a long leader & it's difficult to cast. Thanks for sharing 👊👍🎣😎
Great advice!! I have a tip for you to make the mackerel taste better jug it right away and bleed it out if you plan to eat it. That gets rid of the fishy tasting brown meat. Even my children will gobble it down.
Hey Josh.. Great video.. Never thought you could use artificial bait from the Skyway pier . Loved the video and gave me something else to try.. A catch and cook would be cool. I was told to let mackerel fillets soak in milk before cooking them.. Wasn't bad really.. Big thanks for sharing what you do so the rest of us can learn and not look like fools..lol. Keep up the great work Josh.. Ever try the pier from a boat.. Just wondering.. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great videos.. Can't wait for the next one . Always your friend, fan, and subscriber..
Lures definitely help speed the catching process up for sure. We have fished the rock piles from a boat many times, you just have to watch for the dolphins. They can be a real nuisance. Thanks for watching. 👍
We used to fish the skyway all the time until our little one was born. Going back soon. Thanks for the video. Brought back some good memories of slaying mackerel out there. What's your rod/reel setup for this?
I just moved to Florida and got a 7' spinning rod. As a beginner, what type of fish should I aim for to practice to get the basics down and then catch bigger fish?
Josh, love the videos. What do you recommend for a rod/reel combo for lure fishing the mackeral on the bridge? I use my usual rod reel but it’s a bit heavy to be casting so often.....
Enjoy your instructional vids. I prefer a 2oz. weight and 6 to 7 feet of leader. I might try a longer leader, like the 8-10 feet you use just to see if I get more hits. Say hello to Patti and Jitterbug at the peer house for me. Tell'm Kasey said hi! Cheers, brother.
Thank u so much bro. You have some of the best instructional fishing videos for Tampa Bay. I dare u to fly out to another state and see what u can do bro. Just an idea to throw out there. Al Lasad = O Patriot
I honesty could watch this for hours... i can tell one day you will be big. get better editor but thats it keep up the good work... also you just earned yourself a new sub (:
Thank you for this info! The last time I was there the current was strong and this would have helped big time! On a side note, I plan on going next week (Tues or Wed) to the south side. What are your thoughts on fishing after Dorian passes through (assuming we are just getting alot of rain)? Do you think it will be worth fishing after that?
Reminds me of when my mom was casting on one of the keys fishing bridges and ended up hooking a car lmao talk about getting spoiled. Did the driver ever see the dent and come back?
Hey Josh, Neat video and looks like an all around way to catch different species. Did you actually hear that guy hit the car? If you would, please check your video and see. I swear he had already cast before the car came by and I would have thought the driver would have gotten out and put up more of an argument if he had hit it. I can Fully understand what you are saying about "what not to do!" Never wore a hard hat to go fishing before! BTW, The invisible Chris~~~ Hmmm!!! Be well Guys!
I absolutely love how he walks to the car in plain sight of the damage he just caused and looks over the top of the car where he knew he didn't hit anything and said it looks fine to him! Unbelievable! I'd be so pissed if I was the driver. That is one guy I would always be watching so as to stay away from him as we would definitely have words but also I would watch his catch and call in the local game warden if it looks like he's keeping undersized or illegal fish.
did anyone notice that the guy wasnt there when the car came back? im guessing he seen the dent and decided to leave, nice standup guy shoulda owed up and told the people about the dent.
I would have told them if I would have noticed it on the bridge. I didn't catch it until I started editing unfortunately. I knew he smacked the snot out of the car though, it was much louder than the audio sounded on camera.
@@Saltyscales ,thats why you stressed the importance of NOT casting overhead with all that line and lead trailing, you can hear it hit the light and then the back of the car, great video as always,Tight Lines..
I’ll never bring my new truck there with an idiot like that!! It’s a little out of the shot but that dent was from him ! That bs ! He should of took responsibility for his actions! End of story! Thanks for the video fish tips!

Thanks for this. You nailed the how to. Will be trying this at the pier next time I am up there.
Thanks bud, give it a shot and let us know how it goes.
Will try this rig this fall mullet run, it will be a blue fish and mackerel slayer. Thanks Capt!
It will definitely work, good luck!
Thank you Joshua for sharing . You have so much knowledge.....the reason you're a great Teacher...simple to the point.
Thank you, much appreciated. 👍
I have always loved fishing for Mackerel! Another great video!
Great video and nice to see how to make the rig setup.A big shout out from here in the UK
Thanks, bud, glad you liked it.
Dude that guy running around the bridge like a crazy man. I can’t believe he hit that car 😡😡
Guys like that need to learn respect 💯💯
It wasn't intentional but he was running all over us and the pier in the shallows were empty.

Thanks and you are welcome, good luck!
Hey josh! Thanks for showing us this rig. Been looking forward to seeing it!
You are welcome, it's a super effective rig.
Gona fish that bridge soon..
Great video. I was at the skyway last week getting stuck in the rocks and dealing with the dolphins again. This time 3 of them.
Those dolphin can drive a man mad lol.
Thanks for the video, I will have to try it when I get down to the Skyway again.

Any time!
What's better about using the trolling weight vs using a egg weight like on a Carolina rig for the spoon?
Nice video and good tips as always
Spanish Mack cut steak style, fried skin on is my fav. Not white and flaky, but smooth and delish, imo
4 oz sinker works best for me but lord, it's tiring. Great work. Keep hustling
I sometimes go up to a 2 oz but that is the heaviest for me.

I love catching those smacks off the jetties on a spoon. You should do the catch and cook. I understand they are better if you bleed them out
As long as you remove the blood line they taste great! I will definitely do a cook.
What reel and rod did you use on this? And what size reel and specs on rod?

That's different than the one I know of, my dad used a keel trolling sinker not sure why.
Hey, if it worked that is all that matters I suppose?
Thanks coach 😆👍🏾

Damn. Hey Josh Ive seen that guy do that same thing before. He puts in the work though for an older dude. What's up with the new boat?
I can't deny that but we all have to use a little common courtesy, I am still figuring out the boat deal.

What size Spoon Squid do you use?
Good video, thanks. I would like to see how to fix those Spanishs.

What weight spoon
Can you tell me why you need at least 6 ft of leader? What if it is only 3 ft?
You'll have more cut off on the lead!
Helpful tips 👍
Thanks Joshua

Man, no turning it lol.
can you use this this to troll in your boat as well?

That was crazy. You had just said the proper way to cast and that Man hit the other guys car by doing what you said not to.

The only time over hand casting is dangerous is when you don’t know what you’re doing 😂
If you have a substantially large leader, its dangerous, doesn't matter your experience level.
