    Where Do You See Yourself In 5 Years is honestly like a trick question. How do you answer this question when most likely you won't be sticking around for that long? In this video I'll show you a formula that will let you answer this question in an honest manner without having to spend too much time figuring out "where DO I see myself in 5 years?"
    Yes, this question is asking about your career goals; more specifically, your long term career goals. But too many people get caught up by trying to literally answer "where do you see yourself in 5 YEARS?" when they should be simply focusing on talking about the overall direction they see themselves heading towards within the company they're interviewing for.
    Not only do I share the formula that will help you come up with your own answer, but my example answer should give you a good idea of how you can adapt the the formula for your own needs. It's a painless strategy that you can use next time you're facing this tricky where do you see yourself in 5 years interview question!

    Totally digging your videos. I'm sure they'll help me in my search. For this one, however, I think that if, like me, one has fewer years ahead in one's career than behind, it's reasonable to suggest that you'd want to stay for 5 years and beyond. The honest answer that I wouldn't say out loud in an interview is that yeah, I'm looking to put down roots. I just want to be good at my job and provide value, and enjoy doing it until I retire. This is the place I think I can do that. I'm honestly not particularly driven toward the next great thing. I kinda just want peace while still paying the bills. In five years, I hope I'm still here doing just that.

    Hello Jeff! Thank you for EXISTING and creating this RUclips channel. I've already heard most of the tips you share but the way you present it just makes it so actionable, and indeed I'm preparing for an important interview coming up on Friday 🤞
    Regarding this specific question, do you think is it still valid today?
    The pandemic changed a lot the way people and companies view the world, and everyone feels more uncertain so it even feels surreal to ask what will you do in 5 years, we don't even know how the world will change in a year from now. Moreover, most job positions in the tech/humanitarian sector are temporary (from 6 to 12 months), so how can we more realistically manage that question in that case?
    Thank you!

    • @JeffSu
      @JeffSu  8 месяцев назад

      I think you already gave the perfect answer Sara! Mention how the pandemic made things (even) more uncertain but it doesn't change your career goals (which hopefully doesn't depend on the pandemic)

    Hi Jeff! Great video! I've been binge watching your "Common Interview Questions & Answers" video playlist for my internship application. I just wanted to ask how the Specific to Broad Structure would be modified if it's 10 years instead of 5. Thank you in advance and more power to you! :)

    • @JeffSu

      Hi Elaine! Glad to hear you're watching the playlist, hope you won't get too tired of my voice :). The formula itself won't change. Even if you change the "years" to 4 years, 16 years, 23 years, the idea stays the same: you always want to go from a short-term plan to a longer term "vision" to show your thought process. Best of luck!
